Sonic Youth Album Cup 2009 Round One: EJSTNS v Murray Street
OK, you have until next sunday to vote. See the main thread for details, but VOTE FOR WHO YOU WANT TO WIN.
|
This was easy. Their worst album against one of their best.
I'll vote Murray Street. |

|
my vote goes to EJSTNS.

Guh Starfield road is jawesome. but you know...Rain on Tin eats it alive.
|
Jet Set, one of my favs, but Murray Street is too strong for this round
|
Murray Street!! Amazing album.
|
Murray Street for me. Trash and No Star I like too.
|
I picked EJSTNS, because it's easier for me to get into than Murray St.
Not to say that Murray St.'s not awesome in its own way too, but... |
I picked Murray Street, it is just fantastic.
The only amazing song on EJSTNS is Bull In The Heather, the rest vary from good to bad. |

Murray Street

Jet Set. It's my most listened to from their 90s albums.
|
i voted for jetset but i don't really like either album much at all
|
What is going on here? EJSTNS beats the hell out of Murray Street. I've always thought of Murray Street as one of their weeker albums, though I do not discount it's contribution; and Experimantal Jet Set set the back ground for one of my most life changing mishaps. Jet Set got me through. Murray Street got me down. |
bumped to keep it on the main page
|
Murray for me

Easily Murray Street. I'm definitely on the "EJSTNS blows" bandwagon.

One more day for anyone who hasn't already done so to vote.
I'll be posting the ties for round two sometime tomorrow evening. |
This is a pretty unfair matchup, like you're pitting Independence Day against 2001: A Space Odyssey.
I already voted for EJSTNS. I like Murray Street, but it was kinda a cultural shock on the first listen, since the only SY I'd been experienced with at that time were Daydream Nation and Goo. It seemed so...bland, like a sterilized version of Daydream Nation. I told my guitar teacher at the time it sounded too much like Radiohead (disclaimer: at that time, I hadn't heard much Radiohead either, beyond some of Amnesiac). I've since learned to appreciate its relative subtlety and scope, but I just can't call it a favorite. I think a more even matchup would be EJSTNS vs. Washing Machine-although EJSTNS would probably lose that too, but it might be closer than the 82-26 slaughter that's going on here. |
I don't know if you're aware but i never actually chose which albums would go up against one another. I used a random number generator to do it for me, just as knock out contests are decided in sports.
