_slavo_ 08.08.2009 01:40 PM

whoa, big deal

TheFoxBen 08.08.2009 01:41 PM

No, they don't split up.

(Trasher, were you at their show in Brussels in March ?)

atsonicpark 08.08.2009 01:42 PM

who?

Trasher02 08.08.2009 01:43 PM

Yeah I was.
And I just noticed it's not true, got a little excited and I then I read the "We hope (although we secretly know differently) that we entertained you all with our sub-sub-sub-Brian Wilsons brain type doings." part and realised it was fake.

Ahah yeah, this is a very bad troll

(I was at the show too, and also the one in Leuven in January, just 5 days after the release of MPP)

atsonicpark 08.08.2009 01:47 PM

I think this band usually isn't too bad but I'd probably be happy if they broke up.

Trasher02 08.08.2009 01:47 PM

Oh cool, I was planning to go to the Leuven gig too but it sold out before I ordered. The AB gig was kind off a bummer, I wasn't impressed to be honest.

I had the same impression, the crowd was lame, the show in Leuven was much better ! But the setlist was better at the AB !

atsonicpark 08.08.2009 01:54 PM

Which ones? I've only heard a few songs by them, some were ok, others were....

atsonicpark 08.08.2009 04:18 PM

eh I can't think of any right off hand.

I wouldn't bother with 'em.

Kylerobert 08.08.2009 04:26 PM

Fun fact: I like AC...
Is it the hype that turns most people off?

Although I don't care for Feels or Water Curses

I do think so
A year ago a lot of people on there seemed to like them, but now that they're ultra hyped (I mean, ultra hyped) there's a lot of hate

Feels is personaly my favorite AC album though. Maybe because it was the one with which I've discovered them - and it changed my life. He.

No, I just am very, very particular with my synth sounds. Mostly, besides leslies or old rotary organs and etc. or classic moogs & melotrons, I hate synth.

I'm more of a purist. I like guitar, bass, drums, and string sections ala beatles, beach boys, and stuff like glenn miller.

I hate shit that sounds all futuristic and jangled, doesnt do anything for me. I like shit to sound old.

When you mix the old with the new, it's cool, but I want my old to be the production, and my new to be the arrangements....

AC used almost no synths before Strawberry Jam, actually (except for Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished, okay)! You should check out Sung Tongs, it's only guitar, vocals and percussions here and there. Plus it's great.

atsonicpark 08.08.2009 05:48 PM

Yeah, Sung Tongs is really good. They've got some good stuff. They've got some lousy stuff, too.. they've got some stuff that's really hard to listen to. They're an alright band, I'm just saying.. I probably wouldn't waste my time on them, there's a lot of better stuff out there.

I don't dislike them because of the hype, though I do find the hype confounding, especially since it's directed at their more recent (and, uh, less good) works.

Probably, which is pretty dumb if you think about it. But in a way it makes sense. I listened to some of their music and in no way did it live up to the hype. It reminded me of a lot of music I made and threw out because I thought it was stupid. NOT THAT I'M SAYING I can make AC-quality music, or that AC suck, just that it's overrated because it sounds unusual and people are looking for anything that sounds new these days, no matter what the quality. Add in the music magazine tendency to overhype the next big thing so they can say they were there on the ground floor, and that's what the result was.

atsonicpark 08.08.2009 05:55 PM

I just think their recent material is downright dull. They've always had problems (lousy production, inconsistent/sloppy songwriting, etc.) but the new stuff is insanely boring. The only strong point they've had for most of their career is some unique melodies. I much prefer AC member's solo projects. I'm glad they have reached some level of success, since they are admittingly kind of a weird band, so hopefully there'll be people out there that will be willing to explore other, better bands since they like AC. Either way... they're not the be-all/end-all faultless band people make them out to be and they just keep getting worse, really.

Ok right on then. I'm not closed minded. I'll give it a go. Alot of my friends like them ALOT.

super_charger 08.08.2009 06:57 PM

Here Comes the Indian and Sung Tongs are awesome. After those albums I thought I'd found my new favorite band but they've continued to disappoint me more and more since then.

Toilet & Bowels 08.08.2009 07:35 PM

is it mean spirited to be disappointed by this not being true?

pbradley 08.08.2009 08:32 PM

We've won!

Satan 08.08.2009 09:33 PM

yaaaaay

narlus 08.08.2009 10:11 PM

Agreed. I think they are a solid band. I thought Strawberry Jam was a pretty decent album. They do have some great melodies but they tend to drag out a song before they reach those melodies. Avey has a great 'yelp'/'scream' and I was disappointed that wasn't utilized on MPP. All in all though, I think they are a decent band.

p.s. I don't see all the fuss about Person Pitch

i don't see how a band can harm you by existing?

shouldn't you be more upset that the black eyed peas exist and are millionaires?
