Been hearing about this band for a really long time and I know yoshimi p-we, but I'm yet to get into them. Does anybody have any suggestions for a first album to get by them?

well if you wanna hear them as a noisy thrash punk band listen to thier earlier records, such as soul discharge or osozeran no stooges kyo. if you wanna hear them as a little more devo-hyper get "chocolate synthesizer". if you wanna hear sprawling analog psychedelic get super ae or vision creation newsun.

I think Super æ is the most representative of their whole career (and probably the best). It's a good mix of the early sound and the newer sound.

i'm going to steal a line from another member here and say that Boredoms are a very aptly named band

I've heard nearly all of their albums, and the only one I've enjoyed from start to finish is Vision Creation Newsun, that album was a brilliant achievement in minimalism. For me everything else they've ever done is completely pick and choose. They keep having too many lineup changes. I think they discovered their perfect lineup during the Vision Creation/Super ae period. They really need to bring back their guitar player, yamamotor or whatever his name was. But live they are a completely different band and I would've gladly gone to see any era of their live shows, although I still think they need a guitarist aside from Eye's 7 guitar instrument thingy, which is good but they need a guitarist!! That's my opinion of the Boredoms, or the VooREDOMS as they are now known.

Well, it helps that Seeiichi Yamamoto is the greatest guitarist of all time, so the fact that he's missing does kinda sting.

I always say this but .. if you like Boredoms, check out Omoide Hatoba.. who are arguably better...

You need to hear Mong Hang's self titled album. I don't know if they are still active. They might have broken up which would be a shame because they are my favorite Japanese band

Super ae could have been a great sister album to Vision Creation Newsun. I'm not a fan of the vocal chant tracks with no instruments, or the tracks that are interrupted at random spots with screeching tape recorders. Super Going is an awesome track though

Mong Hang rules. Saw em live with copycat massacre TWICE and they were mindblowing. One of the most underrated bands ever.

I've listened to Pop Tatari and gotta say, so far it doesn't do anything for me. It seems dumb, boring, and pointless. But they are also really different from most bands, and sometimes that means it will take some time to get used to.

Pop Tatari is definitely not a good place to start. It's firmly grounded in the "middle" of EVERYTHING. I'd highly reccomend Super AE.. but if you dug anything in Pop Tatari, then you'd probably might kinda hopefully love Chocolate Synthesizer best.

That's good to know. I heard that PT was considered their best album. Then again, I never like a band's "best" album so I don't know why the fuck I would think it would be any different this time.

Hah! Honestly, (to me and probably a lot of other long-time fans) it's probably their worst album!

That's really interesting. I think it was pitchfork who said it was their best album so I'm not surprised. Why the fuck did I ever trust them!??
