^^^^ could be a good thing.

Satan 09.16.2009 01:19 AM

Do Not Want.

atsonicpark 09.16.2009 01:36 AM

Fuck this shit.

Inhuman 09.16.2009 01:45 AM

haha, I find the fact that you found that on Brooklyn Vegan more entertaining than Pavement reforming

Decayed Rhapsody 09.16.2009 01:47 AM

LOL @ at the Scissor Shock plug in the comment section

atsonicpark 09.16.2009 01:50 AM

Haha. I'm just kidding but I'm being serious in a way.. there's so much great music out there, Pavement's time has passed. I'm a big fan of the early Pavement stuff (up to and including Wowee), and I don't even really mind the Jicks but yeah. Just seems silly. I said that about Slint, MBV, etc... the only reunion that was awesome was Polvo's, because it was kinda low-key comparatively and a good record came out of it (Six Finger Satellite's reunion sucked, the record they released was awful)...

Inhuman 09.16.2009 01:52 AM

I like the latest stuff Malkmus has been doing. I think it takes away from the glory their earlier stuff yields. Similarly, I have not yet heard the latest stooges album for the same reason

atsonicpark 09.16.2009 01:56 AM

I actually think REAL EMOTIONAL TRASH and PIG LIB are both fantastic records, surprisingly (don't like the other two really). I mean, Malkmus is a bit boring as a songwriter (not really into guitar solos and shit usually which a lot of his songs have) and the energy/sloppiness of Pavement's early work is what attracts me to them -- so I'm surprised that he's able to write somewhat "mature" music that is actually quite listenable and interesting and hooky and melodically pleasing. His lyrics lately have been terrible though.. worse than ever.

Yeah, I don't really "care" about lyrics but why did Malkmus's lyrics suddenly get... non-cryptic... direct.. and uninteresting, after Slanted? Anyone know?

stu666 09.16.2009 02:25 AM

i hope this is true, i never got to see them the first time round

Zombie Robot 09.16.2009 02:27 AM

yay! would luv to see em again.

Jeremy 09.16.2009 04:11 AM

Pavement is my all time favorite band, so to say this is an early birthday present for me is an understatement.

I'll be at those shows, trust me. Don't get me wrong, I thought it would be cool if they were one of those bands who never reunited, but still, my favorite band, never thought I'd see them live. YES YES YES.

~Jeremy~

Sonic Youth Gossip 09.16.2009 04:13 AM

This is awesome.

Gerrystumbaugh 09.16.2009 07:02 AM

won't be as good as the Dinosaur reunion, but will be better than the Pixies reunion.

also, it only counts if they have Gary Young.

noisereductions 09.16.2009 07:10 AM

too much blah blah.

Pavement = rad.

jennthebenn 09.16.2009 07:27 AM

It says "for real," it must be true.

Part of me is excited that it may be true--never saw 'em live--but then
part of me goes, "Do you really want to deal with the stinky Brooklyn
kids with beards larger than their heads yelling out for Gary Young the
whole time? Don't you really want a Helium reunion more?"

Also, this reunion shit is outta control. Next up, Climax Blues Band.

noisereductions 09.16.2009 07:29 AM

artist: Pavement
album: Reunited! Double LP, The World's Excited
label: Matador

TheFoxBen 09.16.2009 07:46 AM

noisereductions 09.16.2009 08:04 AM

I have no idea what you mean. Malkmus has always been cryptic and/or non-nonsensical, at least far beyond Slanted. Brighten the Corners in part. has some way out lyrics. "One of us is a cigar stand and one of us is a lovely blue incandescent guillotine"..? To me that's one of the trademarks of Pavement, off the top of his head spontaneity.

DanielCarlson 09.16.2009 09:48 AM

Could be interesting, I'd see them.

Rob Instigator 09.16.2009 10:22 AM

Where's Gary?

I don't think the lyrics on Btc or WZ are non-cryptic, direct, or uninteresting

radarmaker 09.16.2009 01:09 PM

Guess I'd better start saving for next May's ATP as well then...

atsonicpark 09.16.2009 03:23 PM

You guys really don't think his approach to lyrics changed after Slanted?! Well, they certainly became less interesting to me, what with his tongue-in-cheek references to Smashing Pumpkins and Geddy Lee. They are definitely more straightforward, and they don't scare me anymore.

Also, he sings like an asshole quite often.

automatic bzooty 09.16.2009 04:09 PM

malkmus sings like an asshole because he's a smug little asshole. but i like him that way.

Rob Instigator 09.16.2009 04:39 PM

yr killing me
yr killing me gain
it's not my fault
it's not my fault again

pretty straightforwards

atsonicpark 09.16.2009 04:49 PM

stop breathing
stop breathing for me now
write it on a postcard

range life, i need a range life
so i can settle down
settle down

etc.

Compare that to "grip-force the vials, strip the locks, smash the set, slash the beds .... like a docent's lisp, like a damsel's spit, like a dry gin's twist, like a poor droll sir, like a poke's dull spurs, like a pastor's flock" and so on and so on. I don't know, they just seemed more interesting before... we can debate the crypticness, the directness, etc etc etc all day. I'm just saying, his lyrics suddenly and dramatically got less interesting after Slanted and got less and less interesting until now where they are just dull and boring. Like Malkmus himself, hey!

Rob Instigator 09.16.2009 05:04 PM

Parfum V is the GREATEST

she's got the radio active and it makes me feel OK
I don't feel OK

Jeremy 09.16.2009 05:05 PM

Well, look at this way. Until the success of Slanted, they weren't really a band, just a way to kill time before jobs and school. Afterwards they actually toured and picked up some new members. As the band grew I think his style changed, since he was technically in a "real" band now. Hence why Slanted is very different from all four of their other records lyrically.

Kinda like Sonic Youth... Compare lyrics to say, The World Looks Red to Dirty Boots or something.

Slanted has some killer lyrics but it's hard to rank them lyrically since after that his lyrics were such a different style.

~Jeremy~

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 09.16.2009 05:23 PM

Well Slanted and Enchanted sucks anyways. (well not really, but it's my least favorite album of theirs. Terror Twilight I just straight up hate, and thus can't call my least favorite)

Wowee has some pretty weird lyrics on it. I don't really know what the fuck any of those songs are about.

atsonicpark 09.16.2009 05:24 PM

Brazillian nuts.

atsonicpark 09.16.2009 05:25 PM

# 1. Wowee # 2. Slanted # 3. Westing # 4. CR, CR # 5. Brighten # who cares. TT

GeneticKiss 09.16.2009 06:25 PM

Pavement are too old to reunite and for me to take them seriously.

I mean, to me, Pavement is the soundtrack to youth itself, and I just can't see that kind of music being done by people in their late 30s...

The best bands right now have old people in them. . .

Sonic Youth
Mission of Burma

Oh and:

Wowee Zowee > Brighten the Corners > Westing By Musket > Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain > Slanted and Enchanted > Terror Shitlight
