trip albums
If you were to do acid, or have done acid, what would be your album of choice?
For me: BOREDOMS - VISION CREATION NEWSUN Obvious answer but whoa. |
not sure, probably one the mushroom jazzes... or maybe aphex twin.
|
I really enjoyed AC's Water Curses on shrooms.
|
Dale Gribble is the best character EVER!
|
hell yeah he is!
|
playing rez while tripping is probably the best experience ever
|
playing video games when you're high is one of the most depressing things to do ever
|
not an album but watching rubber johnny whilst tripping was good.

A Gilded Eternity - Loop. Loop are a band only the drug addled will appreciate. This quote off Amazon can be seen as a warning to those who might listen to it who aren't on drugs: "It comes perilously close to aural torture! If the thought of no tune, no discernible words, minimal rhythm and absolutely no obvious structure puts this beyond the definition of music at all for you , avoid!"
|
i think i must be missing the point with rez, it just seem like a typical on rails shoot 'em up to me, but with different style graphics.

It's like a music game. The on-shooters portion is really easy. But the way you shoot the objects, rhythmically, helps you make your own songs, in a weird way. It's kinda simple if you break it down and think about it, I guess, but it's totally mindblowing; the experience of it all. That's why there are modes in the game where you don't have to shoot anything, you can just um... travel... with the objects and the levels and shit... traveling mode.. |
[err hmm] just guessing:
1. Sonic Youth - Experimental Jet Set, Trash, No Star 2. Yes - Fragile 3. Beck - Midnight Vultures or Odelay 4. Primus - Tales from the Punchbowl 5. Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey - Winterwood or Lil Tae Rides Again 6. David Holmes (composer) - random, try Oceans Twelve soundtrack 7. Allman Bros. Band - album or live recordings 8. Danny Elfman (composer) - random scores, try Pee Wee's Big Adventure .... in general, I wouldn't recommend "angry" and even really "dark" music. Even if you listen to that otherwise. I'd recommend more playful and even upbeat. It doesn't have to be heavy and intense to begin with, it will be eventually anyways. It doesn't have to be wild or zany to begin with either.... it will be when the fog rolls in. The last thing you want when your mind starts melting, is to listen to sh!t that hardly makes sense to begin with. Something familiar and something that can be appreciated is the way to go. Kinda goes without saying a ton of music from the late 60's - 70's is very appropriate while tripping, go figure, most of them where when writing. Acid is no joke. Use sparingly! I've never tried playing video games while tripping before. I don't imagine it lasting very long. |
there is only one appropriate combo:
1) Grateful Dead 'Anthem to the Sun' ![]() 2) Jimi Hendrix 'woodstock' ![]() |
Maggot Brain

the best music I ever tripped on was the sound of the desert wind in the absolute silence of a moon-less night in the wilderness. |

I don't do drugs, but yeah as Nefeli said I'd probably put on some Double Leopards. Or Black Dice's Load Blown, Eric Copeland's Hermaphrodite, something like that
|
sometimes i'm up for something really trippy, like dj shdaow, autechre, aphex twin, boards of canada.
actually definately boards of canada. as far as i'm concerned, that's the closest thing your ipod can get to being on acid lol other times i'm like "fuck it throw on whatever", ended up listening to dangerdoom last time. MF doom is the goofiest guy ever, his lyrics were totally cracking me up. also listened to aquemini and atliens by outkast last time when i was coming down, this was a really awesome experience. outkast are just fantastic, miles ahead of so much other bullshit out there. andre is one of my idols. |
anything i like to listen to normally
people put too many like, restrictions or rules on tripping, like i have to have THIS music and i can't look in the mirror and blah blah Quote:
|
Yeah I just put on autechre and harry partch last night and it was earthshattering.
|
is that why you bumped the autechre thread?
|
you know what other game is really awesome tripping is anything super mario related (super mario sunshine, mario 64, super mario bros, mario kart 64)

Yes. Second time I tripped was to Untilted (first time was to Oval - 94 Diskont). I had it playing simultaneously on 5 different stereos (well.. 2 stereos.. 2 computers.. and one ps2 hooked to a tv). Yes, I burned 5 different copies of it and tried to get them to play all at the exact same time, with the help of friends. In a mansion in the woods, in complete darkness. FULL BLAST. At 3 AM. At some point we broke out a strobe light and set up trampolines. So, Autechre has always had a special place in my trip history... |
at a festival it goes with absolutely everything but at home chillin with headphones, The Doors or DJ Shadow's mellower stuff come to mind.
Waiting for the Sun or Midnight in a Perfect World |

Only mugs take drugs.

Well me and one of my friends was the only one tripping, there were more people just drinking and partying that helped with that experiment, most were into the music but went along with it anyway.
