10 things you would describe as mindblowing

This applies to entertainment, only... music/movies/video games/books/pieces of art that you would describe as having blown your mind. Limited to 10. The definition of "mindblowing" is pretty loose, this doesn't have to be your favorites in every field or something, these are just things that have helped reshape and change your mind and change how you rethink things. "Life-changing" would also be a good substitute for the word "mindblowing", but I dunno. Here is mine, in no order...:

captain beefheart and his magic band (musician)
dog star man (film)
harry partch (musician)
the holy mountain (film)
ico (video game)
john fahey (musician)
neon genesis evangelion (television series)
tetris attack (video game)
the ticket that exploded (book)
xavier: renengade angel (television show)

Okay, go.

sonicpixie 10.20.2009 01:44 AM

on the road (book)
the western lands (book)
disco pigs (film)
nijinsky (just a photo in an art book that i then lost)
aleister crowley (biography, think its called the great beast)
fear & loathing in las vegas (book)
the road to excess (brian barritt, book)

now i have to go to work, 7 will do!

jennthebenn 10.20.2009 01:47 AM

Sonic Youth (music)
The Choirboys (book)
Breakfast of Champions (book)
Don't Look Back (film)

No Setlist (book...sorry if that sounds arrogant, but it DID fucking change

Peanuts (comic strip/TV specials)
The Simpsons (TV show)
Gaki No Tsukai (TV show)
Slayer (music)

atsonicpark 10.20.2009 01:49 AM

Fuck yeah, I almost had Metroid (and Xenogears) on mine but I had to replace 'em.

It was just something I thought you'd like.. Was there any money inside, or did the mailman steal it?

"my girlfriend (girlfriend)"

haha.

Girlfriend is not a piece of entertainment, though, but I'll let it slide. My girlfriend blew my mind constantly -- usually not for good reasons though.

Ah fuck, Big Lebowski skipped my mind. Nice one though.

Another game (In the list of many) that really just made me go "Wow!" was Maniac Mansion for the NES. Classic.

ps. also a painting by dali that i saw in real life. i didnt "like" him but i knew this was questionable since i had seen his painting only in books and online. still i m not sure, but seeing that painting moved me.

Reading Sarah Kane for the first time was pretty mindblowing for me too. I've since befriended a playwright who went to drama school with her, and keep in touch with mostly by letter, as she lives in Edinburgh and is not big on the internet. I was going to mention Invasion too, watching it for the first time was really special.
