New Liars album: early 2010!
I can't wait!

I wonder what it'll sound like this time... |
Their s/t had some pretty good stuff on it, but I feel that's as far as they can expand their sound. A new album from them would most likely just tread water from the last one. I'd be really surprised if they proved me wrong.

"Now let’s just sit back and see whether they lean more toward beach ambience or more towards the stygian nautical themes of Ween’s The Mollusk. I’m sure they could probably find a middle ground."
Ahah, The Mollusk is a pretty cool album. Anyway, a new Liars record is always a great thing, Drum's Not Dead is so good. |
both of Liars’ publicists
...okay. |
Cool

I dont think you can call a band like Liars bad songwriters because i dont sense thats what they set out to be good at. The s/t album was pretty inconsistent, even though there is some really good material on there. I got the sense they were really enjoying themselves making it, but comfort is not whats condusive to their best work. It was a bit of a Mary Chain fanfiction in places which never, ever works. I am excited by the prospect though, theyve certainly taken their time making it. |
They're a bunch of time-wasting poseurs.
|
If they spent less time messing up their long hair with grease and turned around to engage themselves with their instruments maybe they would come up with something valuable. They're like the equivalent of asking the barman for a pint of beer, and getting a pint of milk by mistake instead.
|
They're like closing your eyes while you stretch your arm towards the counter, where the shopkeeper is about to put your change in your hand, and when you open it there is a hot turd in it instead.
|
They're like a car that refuses to drive, a boat without passengers on.
|
"drum's not dead" was a good pot record.
|
they're like bread and butter with neither the bread nor the butter.
|
the liars are pretty amazing.
|
They Threw Us In A Trench And Stuck A Monument blah blah was a good album. Other than that, the Liars always seem to be a band whose new album I enjoy for a week or two and then becomes boring, never to be played again.

Drum's Not Dad
|
Yeah, I think IT FIT WHEN I WAS A KID was quite a brilliant track. They'll occasionally have a cool track, I dunno, they're a really weird band. Their music is strangely robotic and lifeless and too... just... bland. I dunno. But occasionally all the elements will come together and do something great. Always hate the vocals though.

LIARS!!

New track to be downloaded here: http://thesisterworld.com/
New album will be released on March 6th. This track is rather good. Wonder if the album will sound like that... |
cant wait for this album..cant wait for any liars album..i dont care for their posing or their hipster shit or their im so indie macabre make up i dont care for people who dont like em because well, now people like em..ive loved them since the monument album and they always come up with something a bit different each outing.. bring ion the sisterworld and may it be completely unlistenable..liars fanbase need some weeding out of the folk who by yeah yeah yeah records...... no disrespect but liars rule
scissors sounds quite good...... it will be album of 2010! |
Not digging that song.
|
yeah, whatever little anticipation i had for this album has totally been killed. fuck liars.
|
fuck it...i still cant wait for the album... i do really like liars and no apology will be offered forthwith.... each to their own etc etc etc blah blah etc....
zazen boys...now they do rock...no arguement! |
I don't think that the new song's that bad, or that their S/T is that bad.
I think that Liars are held to way, way, way too high of a standard due to the brilliance and originality of Drum's Not Dead. If their S/T was the follow up to their debut album and none of that in between stuff happened, people would like it. |

They got a lot of attention with their dance punk stuff when bands like The Rapture, The Hives, and the Strokes were starting to break the mainstream.
Then under all that attention they released some phenomenal noise rock albums and EPs. Then they came back down to earth. |

I've only heard Drum's Not Dead. Didn't really like it, nothing about it really caught my attention, it just kinda played in the background and I didn't take any notice of it.

This. Contenderfor album of the year already. |
it's better an dmore inspired than than the previous selftitled LP. Found it hard to like it at first but it's a grower. Check out the video for the single. amazing.
|
Yeah, the "Scissor" video is great.
I'm going to buy some CD's this afternoon, if I see that one, I'll pick it up. |
You've said it 1800 times before, Adam. We already know your opinion on them.

How about you, out of your 23000(!) post learn to write something slghtly intresting. |
I'm not really sure what to think of it.
If I didn't know it was Liars I think I might like it more. The music is just so much more concrete than their other recent efforts. I was expecting some new-neolithic outerspace subconscious type pop drone, and all I got was an art rock where I can tell what instruments they're using. It seems like they're moving even more and more away from their strong sense of rhythm, which IMO was their strong suit. I do like some of the tracks though. Overachievers, Goodnight Evening, and Too Much Too Much are decent. First track is cool too. Too Much Too Much rips off the WIRE post-verse bass line to Practice Makes Perfect. I think it's Practice Makes Perfect. Not that Liars are unfamiliar with ripping off melodies from other artists. Pretty Sure "It Fit When I was A Kid" from "Drum's Not Dead" rips off some 60s song, I want to say by the Zombies. |
Eh, actually, after a few listens, it's grown on me... decent lil album.
