What Is Your Favourite Acid Mothers Temple Track Then?

Oh fuck I love AMT. I think the 4 disc Penultimate Galactic Bordello is absolute ace (and sadly overlooked). Magical Power From Mars sends me to...well, Mars. Ah fuck it, I love all the albums of theirs that I have, and I have many.

But my favourite track from them has to be Dark Star Blues from Does The Cosmic Shepherd Dream Of Electric Tapirs? I will discuss this more if this thread goes anywhere.

(But does she keep singing "Ziggy plays guitar"?)

What's your favourite AMT track then?

All of Electic Heavyland is a three way tie, so I'll just say "Phantom of Galactic Magnum" since it's the longest (slightly) and the opus, and the best of the three titles.

Heavyland was my very first AMT. Love it. Fuckin recorded loud, that one. Succint, to the point. But their real space-outs are more fun for me.

Dead-Air 11.18.2009 12:21 AM

Overall, I feel that way, but as heavy goes they can't really be beat. When I saw them live they went the heavy way, and yeah, I would have liked some of the trance-psych, but damn, watching those geezers wail over anything Slayer could do was impressive. I've seen Painkiller too, and AMT were HEAVIER!

I just fucken adore their style, ......their attitude. Many see the multiple releases per year as yieling lots of low quality / filler. I do not share this view.

Anthem of the Space

" I think the 4 disc Penultimate Galactic Bordello is absolute ace (and sadly overlooked)."

I think I've said this exact same thing on every AMT thread we've had. It's by far my favorite release by them! Disc one! Oh my god. That's probably my favorite track, to boot. It gets into this insane, beautiful synthy part at the end that just blows my mind.

Agreed - disc 4 is my fav, followed by 1, then 2, then 3. This is not to say that I dislike 3. In fact, I played What's Your Name tonight, loud, and my 19 month old son loved it, hahahaha.....

jon boy 11.25.2009 08:20 PM

probably pink lady lemonade. when i saw them do that it was pretty damn amazing.

Skuj 11.28.2009 12:30 AM

Yeah, maybe Anthem Of The Space is the best one. What a great riff.....then it decays to a noisy bluesy bit, then goes all dreamy and ambient.....operatic even......before suddenly re-engaging with the original riffage to close things out......I dunno.

Fuck I love AMT. I want to be AMT.

In fact......I am AMT.

RanaldoNecro 04.01.2010 10:00 PM

Not really familiar with their work but might go see them this weekend.

batreleaser 04.02.2010 07:05 PM

Live review I wrote about AMT's Tucson show.

Last night was my first exposure to AMT. The guitarist obviously was the show stopper. I saw shades of Thurston in his playing as well.

There wasn't much fanfare which was a relief. Seemed to be a bit of humor in what they where doing as well. The electronics were an excellent touch as well...

I want more

hirsute_biped 03.25.2012 12:06 PM

I've never caught AMT before, thinking about going this time around. Their page is calling it their "Last Tour in US & Canada 2012". It also seems like they have some CDs called things like "Last Tokyo Show" from several years ago, that their understanding of the meaning of the word "last" might be different than mine, and that they like to play semantic pranks and cosmic jokes. Do they mean "most recent" or "final"?

sonic sphere 03.25.2012 12:41 PM

i remember reading that there were so few people at the "last tokyo show" gig
that they vowed never to play there again. not sure if they have or not.
i'm really not sure if this tour will be the last but i would very much recommend you check them out!

hirsute_biped 03.25.2012 01:28 PM

Seems like they're also playing up the 2012 aztec/mayan cosmic apocalypse angle, and hence "last". Fits in nicely with their UFO/cosmic consciousness thing. Maybe the only band that could get away with such shenanigans and hold my interest. I don't know their music very well aside from some youtube videos, i'm looking to go in with few reference points and have my mind melted.

We got tickets, same week as Lee's show in LA.

hirsute_biped 04.10.2012 08:35 PM

I'll let you know after Friday night.

hirsute_biped 04.14.2012 12:53 PM

AMT was pretty rad last night. Heavy psych avant space rock w/ noisy bits & eccentric vocal improv. Their new record, Son of a Bitches Brew, is supposedly more jazz influenced, which I think to them just means more abstract open ended jamming and occasional soprano sax blasts. Highlight was extended Pink Lady Lemonade, the only song of theirs I recognize, and perhaps their best, but if you're a long time die hard AMT fan maybe it's passé? I recorded the whole thing, seems like it turned out well, so hopefully within the week I will upload it here. Their current lineup is five guys, and is listed on their website.

hipster_bebop_junkie 04.14.2012 01:58 PM

There is an audience recording of that show over at dimeadozen. Set-list and line-up as listed on that torrent:

1. intro jam >
2.
3. Pink Lady Lemonade > Cometary Orbital Drive > PLL contd.
4. Dark Stars in the Dazzling Sky
5. Encore break
6. Chinese Flying Saucer

Tsuyama Atsushi: bass, soprano sax, vox
Higashi Hiroshi: synthesizer, vox
Shimura Koji: drums
Kawabata Makoto: guitar, vox
Tabata Mitsuru : guitar, maratab

hirsute_biped 04.14.2012 04:51 PM

Well, maybe it's not so critical I upload mine then, but I suppose the more the merrier. A surround sound mix perhaps? We ended up buying the Pink Lady Lemonade ...You're From Inner Space 2LP reissue on pink/black bicolored vinyl ltd to 500 copies, and an LP from openers Pond who are 2/3 or 3/4 or some ratio of Tame Impala (who are awesome).

My edit is done, waiting for some bandwidth to upload overnight. Made up my own titles, edited to five tracks including soundcheck as opposed to the six listed above.

Here is my recording of Acid Mothers Temple 2012/04/13 @ The Echo, Los Angeles, CA

dimers can upload to dime if they wish, or not if they don't wish

I don't know the real names of most of these songs, but enjoyed making them up based on AMT's current record title "Son Of A Bitches Brew", transcriptions of their chants, their penchant for reworking classic rock titles, their fondness for psychedelic artwork featuring female nudes, a line from Homer's Odyssey (I think), and their 2012 Mayan-Apocalypse-themed tour poster.

1. (soundcheck)
2. Son of A Bitches Brew/Tsuyama Runs the VooDoo Down
3. Shine On You Crazy Diamond Raga (accapella)/Ass-Tronime Dominae-trix/Set The Controls For The Ass Of The Nun/Carefull with That Ass, Eugene
4. Pink Lady Lemonade ...You're From Inner Space/Ya He Ya Ho Wah Wah/The Rosey Tipped Nipples Of Dawn (Pink Lady coda)
5. AMT mistakenly wait for The Mayan Feathered Serpent God, Quetzalcoatl, at the Incan site at Machu Picchu, Peru in the Year 2012.
