so I just got the Sensational Fix book

and it's amazing.

jennthebenn 06.30.2010 06:49 PM

Basically, yeah. Any SY fan that can buy it should buy it. Immediately.

noisereductions 06.30.2010 06:58 PM

it sucks that it took 2 years until I could find it at a decent price when I actually had extra cash. But yeah, wow. This book is really great.

krastian 06.30.2010 07:02 PM

It's been on my radar too. Half the fun, for me, is finding something that you really want for a good price when you least expect it!!

noisereductions 06.30.2010 07:05 PM

It's really awesome to see it in person. It's so huge. It's crazy.

krastian 06.30.2010 07:06 PM

Did you get the first edition?

noisereductions 06.30.2010 07:24 PM

nope, 2nd. Bought it brand new. Got it for $60 shipped. Felt awesome removing the shrinkwrap. But yeah, 2nd edition. Green + Red records.

noisereductions 06.30.2010 07:24 PM

is there any difference in content betwixt the 2 editions?

krastian 06.30.2010 07:35 PM

I don't think so. Jenn would know for sure.

jennthebenn 06.30.2010 08:30 PM

I thought the vinyl color was the only difference. Nothing new textually.

(waits for leeisfree to prove me wrong)

krastian 06.30.2010 08:46 PM

Gotta watch out for that fella.

nicfit 07.01.2010 01:11 AM

Let's ask Roland, perhaps some credits and things like that have been added. I never knew the colors of the colored thingies, nice. I want one now.

noisereductions 07.01.2010 07:23 AM

something interesting I noticed in the book last night:

In the official discography of SY releases in the book (which even includes the Official bootlegs like Walls and Blastic Scene) the band includes SYR5 as a Sonic Youth release. Why I find this so interesting is because they do not include albums like Melbourne Direct or Without Kim. It's just interesting to me that SYR5 seems to be the one "side-project" that they feel is part of the SY-band cannon.

shabbray2.0 07.01.2010 08:37 AM

it is indeed. is it still the 7" version, or did they reprint it?

noisereductions 07.01.2010 08:38 AM

it is a 2010 reprint. But it does include 7"s.

shabbray2.0 07.01.2010 08:39 AM

how much are these things worth?
2010 versus first print?

I am wondering cause maybe I should have bought more in the first place

noisereductions 07.01.2010 08:42 AM

no idea on worth of one vs other.

shabbray2.0 07.01.2010 08:43 AM

how much was the reprint? new?

noisereductions 07.01.2010 08:48 AM

list price is $85

shabbray2.0 07.01.2010 08:48 AM

ouch

I bought No Setlist instead, which should be (almost) as good but substantially cheaper. :D Waiting patiently by my mailbox....

noisereductions 07.02.2010 08:59 AM

No Setlist is really cool. And weird in a way, because all the characters I feel like are people that we all "know" but don't. Like I read the book and would be thinking about each person mentioned in the audience or parking lot after a show "hmm. Who is THAT? Is that Rob? Is that Adam?" haha. It' s probably how friends of the Beats felt reading like Kerouc's prose or whatever. :)

I can guarantee its delivery, unfortunately I cannot guarantee that it will
be delivered by my favorite postal carrier.

Gulasch Noir 11.05.2011 07:36 AM

I just ordered it. Now I'm hoping not to regret the investment of EUR 58.

You will not regret it, I can guarantee it!

As soon as I can afford to I will buy myself another copy (the second edition)

nicfit 11.05.2011 07:41 AM

stu stop using my brain to make the thinking for you!

stu666 11.05.2011 07:46 AM

What's the difference between the two?

stu666 11.05.2011 09:17 AM

Coloured vinyl and a few corrections and credits added. Don't know if there's any other difference.

Gulasch Noir 11.05.2011 09:36 AM

Cool, that's good news. I bought this article, which apparently is available since March, 1st 2009. So I guess, it's the original version with the black and the clear 7 inches.

Ha, now there are 3 copies left. When I bought my copy two hours ago, it said, it would be the last copy left.

hipster_bebop_junkie 11.05.2011 05:57 PM

I have two copies of the second edition, so in this case i'm not able to provide info about the differences between the two editions. One of the 7" included is red with yellow spots, and contains "Ivan" by Steve Shelley, and "Aerosol" by Thurston Moore; and the other one is blue (not green, i think noisereductions made a little mistake when describing his copy) with green spots and it includes "Song For Reverse Karaoke" by Kim Gordon, and "Rats (demo)" by Lee Ranaldo.
