Sonic Youth should do something with Reed
 

i youst litened to a live version of reeds kill your sons and i youst thought they should team up together and make some kind of record.remember the vu album "white light white heat" ?something in that way with sonic youth as band.for example an 4 track album with little bit longer tracks and noise sections.i´m not jooking.under a name like

Um, this band has no association with Lou Reed or the VU. Where would you ever get the idea that Lou Reed should perform with SY? That's like asking Weird Al Yankovic to perform with The Pixies.

This isn't true at all. Sonic Youth were quite inspired by VU, not to mention that Reed and SY both do guitar feedback experimentation. I don't know where you got the idea where there was no association. In fact, there are threads comparing SY as the modern VU. I personally wouldn't go that far, but that's not to say there isn't a strong resemblance.

You can't tell me "Metal Machine Music" and "White Light/White Heat" have no connection to Sonic Youth, plus, Members of the band played on Moe Tucker's solo album(drummer for VU)

i think this guy is soooo genius. remember from vu to transformer to coney island baby.his voice the style he sings is youst supercool.and beside that he invited the noise thing more or less.remember white light white heat or even metal machine music.and he is the real king of darkness.

i tell you what.there will be never ever again someone like lou reed.my good.and i saw this guy 2 times live and one time i stand in the first row direct in fron of him.i starred at him.my good it was lou reed.i closed my eyes opened it again and it was not a dream.lou reed was standing in front of me.my idol.my hero.
he looked at me i looked at him.maybe it was some kind of gay but this guy...listen to his voice from the song above.lou reed is the man.a great great artist.a living legend my hero.his music holds me alive.for me some kind of good. a rockn roll icon.a soulfather.what else should i say.he and thurston.all i ever hade was this music.by the way thurston and lou hade the same level at coolnes.i think thurston is in contact with lou . they really should take the chance.and do something together.go on tour together.why not ? sure also a dream for thurston.i bet every member of the youth is a lou reed fan.we know that.and listen to shelleys drums.its so close to mooren truckers.and lou always was on the dark side.don´t know if that is also the case for thurston.in some interviews it looks like he is a really happy man or something.but don´t bother his music is great.

If you need to ask this question maybe you should listen to the first two records and a series of bootlegs more. Perhaps visit their forum ( www.thevelvetforum.tk ), everyone is pretty friendly and helpful on there. I agree that this notion that John Cale was the only experimental force in VU is grossly exagerated. A song like European Son was Reed's attempt at doing Ornette Coleman in a rock way. A failure by his own admission, but still. It's also been documented many times before that a number of those songs have been credited to Lou Reed but were in fact written by more than one member. And certainly if you have heard some of them in their stripped down versions you can hear for yourself that they sound very different from the official versions. Venus In Furs was an acoustic number initially.

yeah, i dunno. i don't think you can split the velvets easily like that. both of 'em were the driving force(s.) it's not like reed was the strictly rock 'n' roll one and cale the ~avant garde~ one.
cale came from a more avant, classical (etc) background... but reed certainly wasn't in the dark about, y'know, the feedback/repetition/volume aspects cale often gets acredited with in early VU.

reed did their weird tuning, i think. ostrich tuning? it came about when he worked for this brill-building type songwriting company...
fucked if i know if he was the first person to ever tune all his guitar strings to the same note though. eh.

sterling + moe were crucial to their "sound" (whatever you'd like to call it) as well. they get downplayed in VU discussion a lot i reckon... aaaand people play up nico's tenure in the band a bit much...

hmm i have heard that a few times before that reed was more the clean poppy songwriter and cale upgradet their songs with noisy arrangments.but.....i don´t think this is really true.after all i think lou reed was pretty much the velvet underground.the driving force even the "noisy stuff" youst think about "metall machine music" right now.sonic youth is different.there you have 3 great songwriters.even if thurston might be the creative head.

I'm sure Catherine Zeta-Jones joins them for a pint on occasion.

Interestingly enough tom jones did record at a studio that cale co owns in swansea.
