100% #60 on top tracks of the 90s from Pitchfork
See here: http://pitchfork.com/features/staff-...990s-100-51/5/
honorable mentions go to Diamond Sea and Kool Thing. On this list it was one song per band. |
Am I alone in thinking that 100% is a shockingly bad song? A lot of people seem to give it praise and I'm very confused by such a consensus.
|
odd choice. it's a pretty good song, but i can name about thirty or so better songs from SY's 90s period, possibly even more.
|
maybe because it rocks.
its still one of the few I enjoy everytime from dirty |
yeah I love. Of course there's way better songs. I think "Diamond Sea" could be a better pick. But no harm no foul. Good song.
|
100% has great skronky riffage
|
and its a sure shot for bringing som egood times live. always a banger

and a techno beat |
I don't know why they abandoned the verse squizzle in the latter period
live shows. To keep it fresh? It's a song, not a piece of bread! (Note, the "new" live "100%" did not make nearly as indignant as the exclamation point suggests. Just sayin'.) |
Okay pick I guess. I mean, I love the song, but there's probably 60% of Dirty I prefer more alone. That's before talking about any of the other 90's records.

yr thinking Macbeth ;) |
100% is a nearly straight-forward rock song coming from a band that isn't always so straight forward. I like it, but it's no where near being a favorite.
|
I think that's why I dislike it, it's so straight-forward and simple. While it 'rocks', it doesn't really display any depth that I'm used to with the rest of SY's catalogue.
|
i can honestly say i've never intentionally put on 100% so i can enjoy listening to it.
|
that's an interesting list..
alec eiffel by pixies? is she weird the navajo know motorway to roswell subbacultcha Letter to Memphis are all better i think as for 100% i think it's an ok song.. but it's not even my favourite song on Dirty let alone the 90's era. |
alec eiffel is the ROCKINEST on trompe le monde. awesome song
|
Yeah, strange choice - it's easily the weakest 90's single bar Little Trouble Girl.
I can only assume that it made the cut by virtue of being the lead-off single on their first album post-Nevermind, and thus the most widely-known. It's their highest-charting US single too. |

i do think alec eiffel is a great song, i just never saw it as one of my favourites by the pixies in the 90s. but i don't have a problem with it being on the list because like i said it is a good song. by the way, I'm sure someone has said this already but just in case no one has... Trompe Le Monde is very underrated in my opinion. 1.Surfer Rosa 2.Trompe Le Monde 3.Doolittle 4.Bossanova the order in which albums i like the most by them. |
Yeah, I'm surprised they didn't put Sugar Kane on there instead... At least Pitchfork halfway justified why they put 100% on there.
In either instance, still cool to see SY get some recognition, considering Pitchfork often jokes about their 90s records. ~Jeremy~ |
Please keep in mind this list only takes into account official singles, and usually they will pick the one that did the best on any sort of chart.

actually you are wrong about that. I spotted many songs on there that were not singles. "Virginia Reel Around The Fountain" for one... |

1. Surfer Rosa 2. Trompe Le Monde 3. Bossanova 4. Doolittle So I guess we kinda agree... I haven't listened to those records in years. Let's not turn this into a Pixies thread though shall we? |
Nobody else surprised then that they didn't go for Bull in the Heather?
Even I would have picked that one over 100%. |

agreed. |
Like radio stations they probably like 100% because it's short. Personally off of Dirty for me it's Theresa Sound World. I'm surprised they didn't go with Goo and pluck Kool Thing after all it gets extra points for the appearance of Chuck D. Although personally I'd go for Mote.
