Movies that made you cry.

C'mon... we all have a few.

Mine:
Elephant Man- The scene where Marek is being taunted and chased by the people in the subway station, and he went on that monologue about being a human being got to me. As someone who has faced public ridicule and felt like a freak, that scene hit so close to home in such a beautiful way that I just couldn't help it. I didn't bawl... but I shed a tear or two.. fantastic scene in a fantastic movie.

Ikiru- That last scene where he's singing on the park swing in the rain... again, something so beautiful that its hard not to cry, its also pretty sad too.

I'll think of more later... those two jumped out immediately though.

!@#$%! 09.12.2010 05:35 PM

yeah ok ikiru, i'll def. give you that. good call btw.

viewtiful alan redux 09.12.2010 05:38 PM

Yeah, there's no right or wrong here. Its purely subjective.

knox 09.12.2010 05:57 PM

synecdoche NY - made me cry for hours
the hours - always does
pans labyrinth - something really depressive about it
dolls - yes.
kurosawa's dreams.

Godamn dude.. Elaphant Man was horrible! (in terms of sadness)
I cried for the first Rugrats movie. I pretty sure I'm alone there..
On the other hand "Love is Gonna Let Me Down" (the song) by Toots And The Maytals has had me on the verge of tears several times

ann ashtray 09.12.2010 06:15 PM

Shawshank Redeption

ploesj 09.12.2010 06:29 PM

DeadDiscoDildo 09.12.2010 06:45 PM

The pianist was super depressing but I didnt cry. I almost laughed when the nazis threw the old man in the wheel chair out of the balcony...then i almost cried cuz i almost laughed...but nothing happened.

atsonicpark 09.12.2010 07:12 PM

great call on ikiru.

I cried at the end of millenium actress... I cried because hana-bi was so good... plenty of Japanese films and anime... grave of the fireflies..

tw2113 09.12.2010 07:14 PM

it's surprising how many movies almost get me going.

Count Mecha 09.12.2010 07:14 PM

I'll admit I had kind of the same reaction to The Pianist. Great powerful movie, and extremely depressing for the majority. And for the wheelchair scene I remember gasping in shock/terror but also vaguely chuckling and feeling extremely guilty afterward. So I really applaud that scene for making me go through a bunch of emotions really quickly.

Sad thing is that that's probably minor stuff that the Nazi's did back during those times

akprodr 09.12.2010 08:08 PM

Hell, everything makes me cry--mostly when something is really beautiful.

the ikara cult 09.12.2010 08:51 PM

theres been a few recently

the wind that shakes the barley
united 93

to name but two

viewtiful alan redux 09.12.2010 08:59 PM

I'm kind of surprised no one agrees with me about Elephant Man.... it seems like something that anyone who has ever felt like a freak or an outcast, or been ridiculed and/or bullied by a group couldn't help but be moved by.

The Champ

Dr. Eugene Felikson 09.12.2010 09:22 PM

Jack - When nobody wanted to play with Jack on the playground.

Beverly Hills Ninja - When Chris Farley was so excited and eager, yet didn't receive a "ninja medal" like the rest of his peers.

kaitlynmazur 09.12.2010 10:14 PM

Toy Story 3.

batreleaser 09.12.2010 10:25 PM

WHen I was wicked young Phenomenon and Powder, both lame, made me weep.

Mystic River made me cry, Im not even a big fan of that flick either but fuckin a Tim Robbins performance is breathtaking.

Touch of Evil made me cry. I don't know why, but I really sympathized with Quinlan.

jon boy 09.12.2010 11:28 PM

when i first saw dancer in the dark.

GeneticKiss 09.12.2010 11:33 PM

I found myself getting a bit choked up at the end of Blue Velvet...

I think it's the music, combined with how overwhelmingly positive the outcome of the story is.

nicfit 09.13.2010 02:27 AM

bill murrey in the submarine with sigur ros (and I don't like sigur ros much at all, it's his face)
when the guy with bullet wounds to the stomach dies (uh spoiler eh?) in saving private ryan (and I don't like spielberg much at all)
Lots of beautifully shot scenes make me almost cry, like the body in the river scene (won't say more) in sympathy for mr.vengeance.
Generally I found that I tend to cry not for properly "sad" things, but rather for scenes depicting situations where things happen and there's a sense of hopelessness (is this a word?), when there's no chance to revert events bah I can't explain this better.
I cry or something like that even with "nice looking" framing/scenes etc bah bah blah boring I am.

Rob Instigator 09.13.2010 10:03 AM

too many to count man...

Schindler's List in theater. Entire theatre crying. too heavy

shawshank redemption. the story made me cry several times then I saw the movie.

TheFoxBen 09.13.2010 11:37 AM

Never really "cried" but shed a tear or two during the following movies:

The Elephant Man
The Straight Story
The Green Mile
Grave of the Fireflies
Moon

Derek 09.13.2010 12:04 PM

Hana-bi.

well, it's got some very sad shit happening, and he goes through the buddhist hell of disease/old age/death while trying to run away from it.

i suppose i found it funny because it reminded us to much of this friend we have, so it was like watching his cartoon.

Rob Instigator 09.13.2010 05:08 PM
