Who are these mooks claiming it was a spoof?
Spoof: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ht8PmEjxUfg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFerRGB7nYM Now if the comparison was to a Nuremberg Rally, then they'd be on to something. Oh by the way this whole Teabag thing is a front for the 3rd richest men in the world, the Koch Brothers: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2...urrentPage=all http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php...for_Prosperity http://www.lewrockwell.com/gordon/gordon37.html etc |

Interesting stuff. The Tea Baggers are the type of people that are holding America back from better things. In other words they are ignorant. |
cynicism aside... this is the ultimate cynicism... so i dont know how one is supposed to be sincere??!?!?!?!
|
excellent!
|
these 'rallies' are just corporate advertisements.
Its pathetic that this is the level of political sophistication of the so-called 'left' these days. |

these 'rallies' are just corporate advertisements.?
Huh? Please explain. |
I'd love to go. Colbert and Stewart are huge political influences on the people.
|
I think this is rather cool, but I'm not going.
I support it but can't afford it. Wanna live it but just acquit it |
Same here. I'd go but I am broke.

Apparently Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam) performed, thats the same Cat Stevens who thinks capital punishment is the appropriate penalty for blasphemy.
I dont think you can set yourself up as a group against Religious Fanaticism and then put a guy on who says those things. |
rally for ultra ultra ultra soft liberals to make it publicly known they have no problems with anything now bush has been replaced by a nicer celebrity and they promise to keep their head down and stick to watching the daily show and eating junk food and being loveably ironic about things like they've always done.
oh and btw if you protest things like wars and austerity measures you're a fucking nutjob, you would be better using your indoor voice to get your message across, not that we'll listen since we're busy on the sofa pampering ourselves with ice cream and comedy central. this could have been an oppurtunity for the left to organise in movements with clear agendas behind vocal leaders, to consolidate and network and decide once and for all to stop rolling over on its back and letting fox news and the tea partiers get away with it. start getting militant and angry and fighting back against the tea party candidates insane and backwards agenda. instead they just rallied around feelgood liberalism and confirmed their commitment to impotent humour and dreaming of being celebrities. they'll end up at home depressed and alone in front of the tv again. what a waste... and its not like they don't have the numbers, 215,000, that dwarfs becks get down on your knees and beg to god who speaks through my dementia rally. i should clarify my problem with stewart is that his brand of politics is anti intellectual, anti thought, anti organisational and has only ever served the smooth running of the neo con agenda. im not against taking the piss, and im not against everything he does. but if all you are prepared to do is crack wise like a good little hedonist who knows his place, if you aren't prepared to actually fight the fuck back and get show no mercy to the right who most certainly are showing no mercy to you, then you are weakening opposition, not strengthening it. |

you said he was performing music, not giving a speech on his beliefs. |
Quote:
Yep, but if they put Skrewdriver or Buju Banton on as a performer im sure people would have made an issue of it too. I dont have an issue with the music, but if its called the "Rally to restore sanity" you cant have a guy that has called for some seriously nasty shit in his time and hasnt stood down from it performing, then not expect to get accused of hypocrisy. |
For real, who gives a fuck what musicians and artists think...
look at half the threads on this board. None of us should be allowed in public... |

Sure thing The problem is with the premise of the rally, its hypocritical of the organisers. |
interesting essay on Counterpunch today - my favorite paragraph:
Some researchers in recent years have attempted to draw a parallel between the psycho-physical effects of excessive TV massage and the socio-political effects of the rise to power of certain TV “news-clowns,” so-called, that act as entertainers-cum-activists on the left end of the political spectrum. The parallels are not to be discounted. We may single out as a promising evidentiary exhibit the work of multi-millionaire news-clown Jon Stewart in his organization of the recent “March for Sanity” in Washington DC. The march was arguably the culmination of years of prior work softening news-clown viewers on the political left to accept certain odd definitions of “sanity”: that, for example, political activism should be reduced to watching Jon Stewart. This massage of the political left, it has been argued, is achieved through mockery of real-world activism, whose adherents are dismissed by implication as earnest, that is too serious for massage, and are vilified openly as “the crazies on the left” – as opposed to the “sane” news-clown viewer. In that nothing is to be taken seriously in political action beyond the paralytic act of watching the news-clown “in action,” the effect on the mass of viewers is not unlike that experienced in the case of TV toxicosis described above. The mood is briefly lightened, but the long-term damage is devastating: The news-clown viewer, massaged into complacency, does not rise from his seat to engage politically, having been told that to do so would render him a laughing-stock. |

What, do we leave it to the serial killers and business people? Why don't artists opinions count? Or must opinions align with theleft and right news-clowns (and their owners) before you see them as legitimate? |
