yes "Biscuits" is such an amazing opener!!!! Also, once you get/love Prettey Tony, yr next stop is 718 by Theodore Unit. It's basically a posse record of outtakes from these sessions. "Gorilla Hood" is honestly fucking unbelievable.

not all that into Hip Hop but all these list without mentioning TuPac, or Warren G, or DJ Quik is pretty suspect. Where's the love for Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Kris Kross y'all?
|
All of my favorites are pretty obvious ones, I'm not too well versed in hip hop.
A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders, Low End Theory, Peoples Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm (what a tri-force of records) Madvillain - Madvillainy Wu-Tang - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) GZA - Liquid Swords Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique and Check Your Head Great Adventures of Slick Rick De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising Lately I've been listening to his record by Jedi Mind Tricks called Violent By Design, that might be one of my favorites. |
I don't think I've even heard 10 hip hop albums... Can I make a top 5 ?
1. dälek - Absence 2. Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) 3. Viktor Vaughn - Vaudeville Villain 4. Antipop Consortium - Arrhythmia 5. MF Doom - Born Like This |
Quote:
Tupac yes. Warren G... no. DJ Quik is awesome, but not Top 10 of all time material. |
Quote:
I've always felt that dalek had outstanding production, but the emcee in that duo was always a little too weak for me to give them too much credibility. Quote:
What's wrong with Warren G?!?!?! |
1. wu tang
2. ghost supreme 3. FLESH OF MY FLESH BLOOD OF MY BLOOD / IT'S DARK AND HELL IS HOT TIE 4. word of mouf 5. that eazy e album 6. company flow 7. NECRO - I NEED DRUGS 8. EMINEM MARSHAL MATHERS 9 stankonia 10. rnadom anticon shit, themselves clouddead some other cool shit since I'm scared of real rap according to glice Okay, that list was sort of a joke, but my # 1 is that company flow album. ![]() end |

Quote:
nothing's wrong with him, but how could you think he should even be considered for inclusion in a Top 10 hip hop albums list??? |
Quote:
Supreme is great. Definitely. That's most people's fav. I can understand why. |

as good as Funcrusher is, I've never thought it was as solid an album beginning to end as other El-P related albums. I certainly enjoy CanOx's COLD VEIN more. And I love his Fantastic Damage album hardcore.
|
Oh, actually, I love Cold Vein quite a bit, I dunno how I forgot to mention that one..
|
yeah COLD VEIN is must-have. I do like Funcrusher a lot, but I don't find it a strong album (beginning to end) as much as just a pretty good collection of songs.
|
|
Oh yeah, I'd put niggamortis by gravediggaz in my top 10 as well, maybe the real # 1 actually.
|
yeah 6 Feet Deep is amazing. That could probably be in my Top 10. It's incredible.
|
Quote:
Fair enough. |
I love Funcrusher Plus and it's in my top 10 for sure, but can barely keep myself from getting bored listening to Fantastic Damage (aside from Deep Space 9mm, which is excellent), I'd much rather listen to Mr Len's Pity The Fool album, or Big Juss's stuff than EL-P solo.
|
wow really? I'm not really a fan of Len or Jus post-CoFlow.
AND I think FANTASTIC DAMAGE is incredible. I mean "Step Father Factory"??? "Time Out Of Joint"??? |
o.g. original gangster- ice-t
enter the wu-tang (36 chambers) - wu-tang clan fear of a black planet- public enemy midnight marauders- a tribe called quest straight outta compton- n.w.a. death certificate- ice cube t.i.m.e.-leaders of the new school muddy waters- redman no need for alarm- del tha funky homosapien quality control- jurassic 5 |
Forgot about J 5 an honorable mention.
No Need For Alarm and Both Sides of The Brain almost made my list. I love old Del. His new album is not too bad. I can put it up here if anyone wants. Also, I've heard funcrusher plus, but not a lot. so I will dig into again. Fist Gravediggaz rules. I wanted to hear more shit by Frukwan. is he any good on his own? thank you and keep the lists comming Other shit I'm just now thinking of Murs- Beginning of The End, Madlib- Studio Kinda Cloudy Vol. 1, DJ Screw- 2 In The mornin part 2 & All Screwed Up, Ol Dity Bastard- Return To The 36 Chambers, Slick Rick- The Great Adventures of Slick Rick, Guitly Simson- Ode To The Ghetto, Vast Aire- Look Mom No Hands, DOOM's King Gheedorah |

Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill 9. Jehru the Damaja - The Sun Rises in the East 10. A Tribe Called Quest - Low End Theory |
Quote:
yeah, i mean those songs are obviously made by an intelligent and visionary mind, but i just don't enjoy listening to them. I just have a hard time with Hiphop that is kind of dirgey. |
Quote:
ah ok. Gotcha. Yeah I guess it is dirgey. That's a good word for it. His post-CoFlow output is really dense, and it's obviously what appeals to people but certainly could scare others away. |
Quote:
The contrast between the first and second De La Soul records is awesome. I'm also a big fan of Public Enemy's first LP. They didn't have their sound yet, but I just like a less radical Chuck D sometimes. Anybody including any DJ Screw/S.U.C./Texas Hip Hop? Some of favorite my most stuff. |
12, rather.
Illmatic, Nas The Future Is Now, Nonphixion God Connections, Al Tariq Dare Iz a Darkside, Redman Fantastic Damage, El-P Step in the Arena, Gang Starr Follow the Leader, Eric B and Rakim Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers, Wu Tang Clan Liquid Swords, GZA The Cold Vein, Cannibal Ox Between a Rock and a Hard Place, Artifacts Waterworld, Leak Bros.
