Man, I hate Sonic Youth

They seriously cut themselves off, stylistically, and they did this decades ago. I hope some fellow delusional fellow sees the error. Abandon ship!

ink. 11.10.2010 01:15 PM

we have a ship?

hi there brads.

where are you now?

pbradley 11.10.2010 01:20 PM

The ship is figurative.

I am in Korea.

I listened to a thousand leaves AND washing machine last night. Listened to murray street with the old lady the other day ("rain on tin" on repeat while we drank). I've probably listened to sy more this year than in the past, oh, 10 years. Great band. I am noticing things I'd never even noticed about them before. Some of the insane guitar layers. I love bands that make me scratch my head.. "how'd they do that?" They're such an intelligent, great sounding band. Some of their walls of guitar... just listen to the title track on WASHING MACHINE.. so incredible, musically.

knox 11.10.2010 01:28 PM

but that was a long time ago
i only do that when i wanna feel like i'm 19 again

floatingslowly 11.10.2010 01:30 PM

I have found that on those (rare) occasions that I don't like sonicyouth, it's usually (stylistically) my problem, not theirs.

at what point does someone get so far ahead of the curve that they appear behind?

speaking of behind, let's talk about Kim's fantastic ass.

knox 11.10.2010 01:32 PM

i don't think i've ever noticed
but you probably have a different barbie like ass concept
in brownpeopleland the bigger the better

floatingslowly 11.10.2010 01:35 PM

my wife has a fantastic ass (despite being a brownperson).

knox 11.10.2010 01:38 PM

HOW GOOD

ink. 11.10.2010 01:44 PM

she appears to have a water bottle sliding out of her hoo hoo..... or thigh.. hard to tell where the ass ends././.

floatingslowly 11.10.2010 01:45 PM

^^^ not THAT brown.

they're in my top 20 bands probably, but confusion is sex has been in my top 10 albums for at least 12 years now. I will never forget listening to it in 105 degree weather in a sweaty ass attic on a shitty stereo with my friend norton (gehena lion guy). One of the best days of my life. I'm going to go home tonight (I'm at my girlfriend's school right now), call in to work, smoke a joint, and listen to confusion is sex all night. No, I'm not calling in just to smoke/listen, I am not feeling well -- sick to my stomach -- but fuck it.

Toilet & Bowels 11.10.2010 06:31 PM

I love Sonic Youth's 80s stuff more than any other music ever recorded, and their 90s stuff is generally fantastic too although sometimes patchy, but to me since 2000 it's been a decline (NYCGY, and Murray St are excellent records though), having said that The Eternal was significantly better than Rather Ripped.

Dead-Air 11.11.2010 02:35 PM

I'm going to go join the Limp Bizkit board just so I can say how they sold out after the first three records!

Confusion is one of my favorite SY albums. I feel close connections to EVOL (best album ever), Confusion, Dirty, Murray Street, The Destroyed Room....those are probably my Top 5.

so you don't like 1 of the 4 albums recorded in that span, and that means there's a decline?

he meant there's a decline with respect to the 80's-90's, if you read what he said for comprehension. decline doesn't mean "utter shit", it means lesser gooderer or some such thing-- yes?. rather ripped made me very sad though. the eternal is ok but just ok. i did love the jam-band style o-rourke era, and i think some tracks in murray street are fucking epic, a sort of culmination of a trajectory that began with the diamond sea (though again some might say "decline", e.g., diamond sea > rain on tin, for example). regardless. i think you're misreading what he wrote. he's just saying that the past was more better. if i recall well t&b is a huge fan of the out-of-print sonic death, for example.
