Jesus and Mary Chain remasters

Does anyone have these yet? I can't imagine that they could make the albums sound better. I wanted them to re-release the videos on DVD since I couldn't find the VHS, but I don't really want to spend all the money on the CD's just to have them.

Opinions?

IntoTheGroovey 07.22.2006 01:14 PM

Never even heard about this.

acousticrock87 07.22.2006 01:19 PM

I have all of them. They sound amazing, but I never had the originals so I can't really compare. They're dual-disc, meaning they're twice the price. I found promotional cut-outs at Rhino Records, where they were issued - meaning they were the copies sent out to reviewers, played once, stamped, and sold half-priced as used.

Really, I'm not sure it's worth it. You get three videos on each disc, a few pages about the history of that period of the band's progress, and I suppose slightly higher quality playback. I wouldn't have bought them all full-price.

The tape is great, it would be nice if they released a DVD with maybe a live performance. I picked up the tape for 3 dollars when I was on vacation in Seattle :).

I'd make a copy for you, but I only have one VCR.

Haven't heard them yet, but I know that the original CD of Psychocandy sounded terrible compared to the vinyl. It was ridiculously heavily compressed and all the dynamics taken out of it. Hopefully they've sorted that out.

acousticrock87 07.22.2006 04:01 PM

I believe they reissued the PC vinyl, as well. I picked up a promontional of that, too. Still labeled as 1985 (or 1986? I forgot), so it may just never have gone OOP.

kingcoffee 07.22.2006 06:28 PM

Sounds awesome. Are they for sale anywhere? I haven't seen them in stores.

Daycare Nation 07.22.2006 06:31 PM

They have them at my local store for 17.99, I think.

acousticrock87 07.22.2006 07:46 PM

Rhino Records down here has a bunch of them for $18.99, but they're the ones who reissued them so of course they'll have them in stock. I saw the PC reissue at Best Buy, though, for about $17.99.

cosmokramer 07.24.2006 02:15 AM

i saw them in a store today..for 14.99 i think...maybe 15.99 i dont remember.
I was thinking about buying...but..i ended up not.

kingcoffee 07.24.2006 02:18 AM

what stores have them????? I went to Best Buy today and they didn;t have anything by J&MC. I would have gone to a better record store like Newbury Comics or Jelly's or Al-Bum's, but I wasn;t anywhere near them. Are they in big chain stores or are they destined for the racks of small, local indie stores?

acousticrock87 07.24.2006 02:57 AM

I saw one copy of the Psychocandy reis. at Best Buy. That was it.

Angel Dust 07.24.2006 03:59 AM

Just bought Darklands and Honey's Dead dual discs. I had a shitty burned copy of Darklands so it is a 110% improvement on that one. Yeah, they definitely did a good job re-mastering these, as they sound super crisp. I noticed a big improvement on the song "Fall" on Darklands, it sounds so much better.

However, I have old issued copies of Automatic and Psychocandy, so I won't be buying dual discs for those. The videos are cool, but if you already have the albums, they'll still sound good anyways.

Is it me, or do the dual discs seem vulnerable to being scratched? I mean two sided discs are asking for problems, no trouble yet though.

sonic sphere 07.24.2006 09:19 AM

have them all already but will prob get psychocandy again just to c if there's much of a difference!

Hip Priest 08.15.2006 08:58 AM

Has 'Munki' not been reissued? I've seen it nowhere.

gmku 08.15.2006 09:30 AM

I have PC on reissued vinyl and my old copy of Automatic. I'll buy the rest if I see them on vinyl.

yeah dualdiscs are apparently more fragile than regular cds.

no. i think it's coz they'd switched record labels back to creation b4 they released munki.

acousticrock87 08.15.2006 05:58 PM

The original Munki is on Amazon for really cheap, though. Something like $8. Same with 90% of the SY albums.

I think the Peel Sessions were re-released (or just released for the first time). Not dual-disc, though.

Hip Priest 08.15.2006 06:04 PM

Thanks guys. It's a shame it's not in the shops too, to complement the other reissues.
