Wow, that really sucks. I feel for 'ya man.

Hip Priest 07.24.2006 05:51 PM

You have my absolute sympathy. I have to admit that I worry about that kind of thing happening to me.

!@#$%! 07.24.2006 05:58 PM

what the fuck man. you've been trolling the internet with no firewall and no antivirus? ouch.

i would say "you asked for it" though that would make me an unfeeling asshole. ha ha maybe i am. but be more careful next time?

i hope that you didn't have any credit card or private information stored there however. that would be the real tragedy. tasteful porn can always be recovered. but identity theft is a bit of a bitch to handle...

well best wishes. if i can help let me know.

Danny Himself 07.24.2006 06:02 PM

Blue screen. Over and over.

Toilet & Bowels 07.24.2006 06:03 PM

why did you want tasteful porn? is it even porn if it's tasteful?

!@#$%! 07.24.2006 06:04 PM

yo, BSOD might be not a virus but a memory error or a busted cap on the motherboard. or maybe some fucked up BIOS settings. or a destroyed hard drive that fucked up the OS.

does your machine POST at all? i mean when you hit the setup key (F1, whatever) do you get BIOS info at least? or nada?

Danny Himself 07.24.2006 06:07 PM

Yeah, I've tried my best in safe mode and stuff, but nothing seems to work.

Cantankerous 07.24.2006 06:08 PM

don't get NAV. NAV = biggest bloat ever.

!@#$%! 07.24.2006 06:12 PM

not safe mode but the BIOS, the most basic fucking level of operation on the machine, which you can view as the "setup screen". if you don't get that, you might have fucked up memory or motherboard, nothing to do with the drive or windows itself.

what im trying to suggest is a process of elimination that lets you spot the location of the fuckup. could be any number of things... even the graphics card.

do you know how to open up your box & get into the guts of the machine? do you have an antistatic wristband/mat? with that you could unplug everything & do a physical check... but if you don't know how, you could fuck it up even worse.

schizophrenicroom 07.24.2006 06:13 PM

that sucks :( that happened to me about two years ago during the hurricanes we had.

!@#$%! 07.24.2006 06:17 PM

that schizo dear was due probably to a power brownout that fucked up some kind of component. if you live in florida your machine should have a battery backup. not a huge one to run forever, just something to stabilize the voltage & keep you protected. you dont have to spend a fortune on it or buy the latest model. i've had good luck with these guys: http://www.refurbups.com/

My computer has been raped by some sort of virus or whatever. Which means I have lost everything on my computer. Songs, videos, pictures, tasteful porno.

So here I am, downgraded to a shitty laptop with a 6-year out of date version of windows on it. Bummer.

you meen all porno ,oh fuch thats fucking bad , I'm sorry man :(

Danny Himself 07.24.2006 06:38 PM

Meh, fuck a new PC. I'm kinda used to Windows ME now anyway..

!@#$%! 07.24.2006 06:56 PM

winME is complete shit man-- the worst OS ever. i'd do 98 SE if i had to stick to an old system, but XP PRO (not XP home) is the best OS ever to run on a PC-- solid as fuck, very secure, blah blah blah. i'd install it.

anyway if your machine runs winME it might be quite old-- about 7 years? time to upgrade perhaps... new components for such an old machine might not be worth the effort (if you can get a new motherboard for a p3, that is...).

sorry man. maybe in a new machine you'll be able to hook up your old drive & recover your tittyshots.

Danny Himself 07.24.2006 06:58 PM

Nah, I meant the laptop is on ME. My PC had XP pro.

And perhaps. I was joking about the porn anyway- I had some quite treasured pictures from memories new and old on that computer.

!@#$%! 07.24.2006 07:02 PM

oh... well you might try repair man. seriously. if your machine POSTs (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power-on_self-test ) then there is hope that it could be fixed.

how come everyone knows how to change a tire or change the car oil or even do a tune-up but nobody knows how to open their machine's guts?

if you are a total newbie then i suggest getting a computer techician or at least a geeky friend to look at it. anyway i gotta go but best wishes with your repairs...

Danny Himself 07.24.2006 07:29 PM

Thanks, man. If I could rep you, I would.

HaydenAsche 07.24.2006 08:14 PM

Damn. This happened to a friends computer about a week ago. My friend and I are going to try and fix it tomorrow.

alyasa 07.24.2006 08:25 PM

Do you think Sonic Youth are computer-savvy, y'all?

No. Old people are never computer-savvy.

alyasa 07.24.2006 08:30 PM

They did cover Neil Young's Computer Age... My parents use computers constantly; and they're pushing 60... Nah, SY must know at least about firewalls and antivirus... :)

HaydenAsche 07.24.2006 08:31 PM

Hmm... I don't know. Thurston and Kim look at it to upload their personal home pornos and stuff.

alyasa 07.24.2006 08:33 PM

Ha... They probably ask Coco about anything computer-related... :) Or Lee... Lee seems really cool and trendy. I bet he has an iPod.

HaydenAsche 07.24.2006 08:35 PM

He has an iRiver. He's a hipster. iPods are now too popular to be hip.

acousticrock87 07.24.2006 08:40 PM

Being in the music business, they're probably more computer savvy than most people their age. Jim used them as live instruments. They must have some knowledge of computer sampling and editting and stuff.

HaydenAsche 07.24.2006 08:40 PM

Jim isn't in the band anymore.

acousticrock87 07.24.2006 08:42 PM

Hence the word "used." I'm sure he at least informed them of what he was doing to an extent.

He still uses them. Just not in Sonic Youth.

Twit.

acousticrock87 07.24.2006 08:46 PM

Right. He used them in Sonic Youth. Keep semantics out of this. This is a serious board, here.

HaydenAsche 07.24.2006 08:48 PM

Blah.

!@#$%! 07.25.2006 07:28 PM

if youre going to open your machine
get yourself at least an antistatic wristband ($3? at radio shack) and learn how to use it. or you'll zap your shit
better even is the antistatic vinyl mat but that's too geeky (i own one ha ha).
anyway best wishes & keep us posted.

Danny Himself 07.25.2006 07:31 PM

It's fucked. I dropped it off at some guys house who knows what he's doing today, and he called earlier- "your computer is fucked". Luckily, he's salvaging as much as he can from the computer.

He's installed a new 80GB hard-drive too, as well as spending all of today working on it. 45 pounds.

!@#$%! 07.25.2006 07:35 PM

ouch. though 45 pounds is not so bad for a new drive plus repairs?. so if the drive was fucked, was the motherboard OK? busted caps on a motherboard can cause many a fuckup and the hard drive nothing to do with it. anyway it's getting fixed. but try learning a bit about this shit. seriously useful, like basic car repair. at least keeps you from getting ripped off-- but sounds like a decent price if you ask me.

Danny Himself 07.25.2006 07:38 PM

Yeah, I think I got a pretty good deal. This guy is totally amazing at computer-shit. He's fixed many computers of my family members and so forth. I'm just glad I'll have a PC to use again.

I'd consider myself pretty articulate on computers- more than most- but once the actual technical stuff starts I'm useless. CTRL ALT DEL?

!@#$%! 07.25.2006 07:47 PM

ha ha ctr alt del

ha ha. :D

acousticrock87 07.25.2006 07:50 PM

I have a slight fear of being electrocuted, so I leave it up to other people.

I sort of understand computers, like I could install new RAM if I had to, but I wouldn't know how to diagnose one.

Danny Himself 07.26.2006 07:49 AM

Success!

I got computer back- EVERYTHING has been saved! All I need to do is reinstall everything (first thing was internet, of course..).

I'm a happy little boy again! :]
