Goddammit, I love Unwound!
Easily one of the best bands I've ever heard. Catch me on the right day, and I might say that I enjoy them even more than Sonic Youth. I honestly can't recall a single song by them that I dislike. They don't get namedropped enough these days, and I find it quite pitiful that I couldn't find a thread dedicated to their brilliance on SYG.
So, Unwound, here's to you! In the famous words of the late Rob Instigator, "Skronk on!" ![]() |
I haven't listened to them. But I am now. ON Youtube. And well 10 seconds in.....and it doesn't sound bad.....quite good actually...I'm just gonna keep typing till I'm finished hearing this song and well....it sounds pretty gosh darn aewsome. so now I'm still listening while they play....no lyrics yet...but it sounds liek they can come in at any time....and well...this keyboard sucs so I'm just gonna stop typing.

There's a million threads on here about Unwound.
|
Ones specifically dedicated to them? I couldn't find shit.
Yr welcome EVOL. |
some and one "official" for what it's worth.
![]() repetition does not hurt (haha). |
'Leaves turn inside you' is probably one of the albums I've heard the most.
Really good very loud: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVUQxdn-MoQ |

lol nice joke. Well, maybe I'm gonna have to get better at the search function, because I will tell you... that is NOT what you get when you search "Unwound". Either way, great band - deserving of multiple threads. :D |
what's the problem anyway, it made me wanna listen to that album again right now.
|
yeah read my NR Essentials post Joe.
|
They're like Sonic Youth, except without all the feminist nonsense, and songs that you only pretend to like.

you could have not posted that, you had the option |
If you can't see my tongue in my cheek, it looks quite similar to when Thurston's member is near-bursting through the side of Kim Gordon's mouth.
|
^ that made me want to post something...but I wont'.....for many reasons.....
|
they're pretty good, i just put on light at the end of the tunnel is a train p
|
I had the pleasure of seeing them live. What an amazingly powerful band. Love them!
|
Unwound are a really, really consistent band. I think my two favorites from them are Leaves Turn Inside You (The obvious one) and New Plastic Ideas.... Fake Train is pretty damn good as well.
Probably my favorite Unwound song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WilH0XISBUQ ~Jeremy~ |
Leaves Turn Inside You is probably my LEAST favorite album.
Perhaps it is because I knew it was there last and I didn't want it to be so. |
New Plastic Ideas, and Repetition are my personal favorites.
|
Fantastic band. I think Fake Train is my favorite, but it's hard to say. Repetition and Leaves Turn Inside You are almost as good... and probably New Plastic Ideas as well. A extremely consistent band.
This is the best thing ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyFLIK9kP2U |
I accidently bid on "leaves turn inside you" on ebay about 6 or seven years ago. because it was titled something like "Leaves unwound Promodisc Sonic Youth". I thought I was bidding on a thusand leaves.
but it turns out to be the best bid-accident I could make. Love the first half of the album. really I love it! |

Yeah, I recently got Leaves Turn Inside You and Repetition, and Leaves is good, but not great. As of right now, I definitely prefer Repetition.

Exactly. |
Repetition is still my favorite. So incredibly kick-ass.
|
Leaves Turn Inside You is the only Unwound album I can be bothered with anymore.
|
yeah, really.
I like the 2 minutes of feedback! Always a huge fan of well produced feedback. Also see: fiirst minute of that Drive Like Jehu song with the feedback, Glassjaw's "HURTING AND SHOVING" with like 8 guitar layers playing feedback, SILVER SESSIONS. DEMONNN DAYZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ |
Okay I changed my mind, they're the best band of the 90s.
|
Really regret never having seen this band live. Fake Train is the favorite for me.

Unwound's White Album. also the perfect soundtrack for rainy days. |

I got to see Unwound in Houston during their Leaves Turn Inside YOu Tour. AWESOME.
Unwound is great. I always used to hear people say "you like Sonic Youth, you need to listen to Unwound, and Blonde Redhead.." I enjoy Unwound far more than I enjoy Blonde Redhead, which is hit or miss for me. |
I've always thought of Unwound as being more akin to Slint and (for some reason) Fugazi than Sonic Youth, but I kinda lump them all together. Again, no fuckin' clue why. Probably has something to do with the point in my life when I really got into the bands. Wire falls into that category too, and so does My Bloody Valentine (kind of another head scratcher, I know).
Where was I? Ah yes. Nowhere, because I had not actually begun to make a point. Aaaaaanyway.. Yes Unwound is one of the best fucking bands ever. I would never in a million years claim that they are better then Sonic Youth, I have many times, said to myself, "Holy shit, is Unwound actually better than Slint?!?" (Sometimes out loud, as I did today in the middle of a teleconference at work, much to my own chagrin. My boss was none too pleased. But honestly in terms of volume of awesome music, and degree of the awesomeness of the awesome music, Unwound is definitely at lest on a par with the mighty Slint. And because there's so much more to be heard and enjoyed by Unwound, I'm going to have to say they'e the "better" band, even though Slint is the better "band." Does that make sense? It does. And I also think that there is no band that comes closer to being "like" Sonic Youth. Y'know how some people always want to know who the next Nirvana/Pixies/Sonic Youth is going to be? Well, Unwound is the only answer I can come up with and it's a shitty fucking answer! To, I'll might add, a pretty stupid fucking question! One which I have asked a shit ton of times. Best album of the 00's. Leaves Turn Inside You. Best non-Sonic Youth album anyway. I think. Of '00-'09 anyway. |
^Leaves is easily one of my favorite records of all time. For sure.
