finding nobody 07.31.2006 09:50 AM

i had this argument with a freind in 8th grade. We asked our coach at school
he said spiderman

Pax Americana 07.31.2006 10:12 AM

Superman is stronger. But he's also the most uninteresting and lame superhero ever thought of. So... Spider-Man?

johnnywinternoshow 07.31.2006 10:45 AM

on the strength of the movies spiderman

Toilet & Bowels 07.31.2006 11:03 AM

superman is a boring square, and spiderman is a whining geek who doesn't know how good he's got it.

fishmonkey 07.31.2006 11:23 AM

spiderman is cool, but superman is stronger.

he's name is fuckin superman for christ sake.

atari 2600 07.31.2006 12:07 PM

this was done hehe in 1981

I remember it & I remember underdog Spidey winning because Superman had been weakened by a Luthor kryptonite attack at the time...
http://www.geocities.com/utherworld/...perspidey.html
the page also mentions a second Superman/Spider-Man that also featured Wonder Woman & The Hulk, thus matching things up a bit more evenly.
Originally, Superman was not able to fly & only able to run blindingly fast & "leap tall buildings in a single bound" due to the gravity being different on Earth as opposed to Krypton. It was also only his suit made from his baby blanket that deflected bullets in the beginning. The radio show invented many of Superman's advanced powers as did the Fleischer cartoons. By WWII, Superman had become invincible & before the U.S. involvment, DC published a cartoon in Look magazine that featured Superman ending the European conflict in short order & hand-delivering Hitler (& I think Mussolini) over to the U.N. for punishment. that was roundly criticized as insensitive. By the time the U.S. got involved, DC wisely began having Superman fighting Nazis, but not solving the whole crisis so handily. The History channel and also A&E recently aired a documentary recently called "Look, Up in the Sky: The Amazing Story of Superman" directed by Ken Burns that Kevin Spacey narrates. There was a bit of an odd moment near the end when Spacey was describing the new Superman Returns movie & he keeps referring to himself in the third person.

maybe it's the fact that his secret identity consists of only a pair of glasses

porkmarras 07.31.2006 04:05 PM

Born Spiderman.Died Spiderman.

krastian 07.31.2006 05:26 PM

Superman is way stronger.....too many powers.

Savage Clone 07.31.2006 05:30 PM

They could be a great team in their day jobs; Clark Kent the reporter and Peter Parker the photojournalist!
They would be unstoppable in the press by day and on the streets by night!

krastian 07.31.2006 05:33 PM

Good point. I think the real question is which one is a bigger geek, Kent or Parker? I say Parker.

touch me i'm sick 07.31.2006 05:34 PM

in real life, spiderman would get all the ladies

Savage Clone 07.31.2006 05:34 PM

Kent at least had his own apartment.

jon boy 07.31.2006 06:01 PM

spiderman was my favourite as a kid so i ill say spidy. but in all honesty superman is stronger.

krastian 07.31.2006 06:04 PM

Spiderman was pretty cool, but I loved his villains a lot more than him....Doctor Doom and Doctor Octopus...fuck yeah.

atari 2600 07.31.2006 09:05 PM

I too prefer The Amazing Spider-Man, but Superman "is stronger."

acousticrock87 07.31.2006 09:24 PM

Yeah, Superman is much stronger if we must use that word. However, Spiderman is way more interesting. Superman is just a little bit basic. Which is only natural since he's quite a bit older.

the burninator 07.31.2006 10:06 PM

I think superman is dumb he has all these powers and still gets his ass kicked
what a fag

Hahaha. I didn't get it at first. For some reason it didn't immediately register that the invisible man was invisible. But nice one.

LifeDistortion 08.01.2006 01:16 AM

Spidy-Man, I liked him long before the movies ever came out.

RockerNino 08.01.2006 01:20 AM

spiderman is much smarter than superman. brains over brawn.

No no no.Superman looks like he's been pumped vitamin c up his arse, whereas Spiderman is cool, sneaky and always up to something.I'd say Popeye is sexier.

sonicl 08.01.2006 07:48 AM

I prefer The Ramones' cover of "Spiderman" over R.E.M's cover of "Superman".

jon boy 08.01.2006 08:02 AM

i liked the bad superman in superman III.

kingcoffee 08.01.2006 08:42 AM

SUPERMAN is stronger. For Christ's sake, he actually pushed the world backwards to reverse time in Superman II. Spiderman, although super-strenghted himself, could never do that. I like SPiderman much better than Superman, though. Superman is sucha bland character with no personality. He sucks. They made him way too powerful. It was like Amercian propaganda agaisnt the Nazi's. It was stupid.

porkmarras 08.01.2006 08:51 AM

Yeah but Spiderman is dandier.

atari 2600 08.01.2006 08:56 AM

In the documentary I referred to in the last post, it revealed that the original creators of Superman, (wiki links follow) Joe Shuster & Jerry Siegel in 1932 while both were growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, and sold to Detective Comics, Inc. (DC's first title & where the company gets its name) in 1938, (& only later to Action comics)...
what a mess^

I'll start over...
anyway, before Shuster & Siegel had a successful newspaper strip for Superman, they self-published a mimeographed comic called "The Reign of the Superman" that was all about a supervillian & had the overtones of Nietzsche's superman, the ubermensch or whatnot & this was all before Hitler became prominent. This was interesting to learn from that documentary since both Shuster & Seigel were sons of very poor Jewish immigrants. Anyway, they eventually re-tooled the character haha.

touch me i'm sick 08.01.2006 09:33 AM

yeah i think we all realize that superman is actually stronger... but that's obviously not what the people go for. spidy is way better with crowds and he's hella cool

space_monkey 08.01.2006 09:43 AM

c'mon poeple ,questio was who is stronger ,not who is better looking...we all know that superman is geek, but spidy.... i hate that asshole

nomadicfollower 08.01.2006 11:05 AM

Superman is the most boring superhero. Completely invincible except to a rock? No fun.
Spiderman. Or better yet, Batman.

LifeDistortion 08.01.2006 01:42 PM

Well actually if you go by who would win in a fight, two things, Spider-Man is smart enough to know to use kryponite, and just look how he fights, he's a very creative fighter and a quick thinker, Superman has got the speed and the strength but Spider-Man has the brains. Spider-man would throw a kryponite rock onto Superman's chest use his webbing to make it stick to him and Superman would act like a eighty year old man. And Spider-Man could avoid any trouble Superman throws at him by using his spider-sense. Alright my nerdy comic rant is over. I haven't even read a comic in ages.

krastian 08.01.2006 04:02 PM

Lasers dudes.....lasers

atari 2600 08.01.2006 04:35 PM

heat vision was first introduced (I think) in the radio show.
http://xroads.virginia.edu/~ug02/superman/radio.html
There used to be a page to download them for free. I never did, but I notice now that all the links are for cd-rs of probably the same mp3s that were up on that dead page.

that's very cool that the joke is still around, Diesel. I remember hearing that one in junior high.

I completely agree with nomadic follower. Batman is my favorite superhero.
The best comic books, in my opinion as I'm no big collector or anything, are Detective Comics that feature Batman before Robin & The Amazing Spider-Man. As a kid, I also liked The Avengers a good bit.

Rob Instigator 08.01.2006 04:54 PM

hahahah! superman could crush spiderman unde rthe weight of his hefty thick ballsac alone!!!

and remember, spiderman was created in the 60's drawing from youth culture and teen angst as his main motivator.
superman was created in the 30's between world wars as a symbol of good and honesty and everything the US seemed to NEED at the time.

spiderman stands no chance against superman in a fight
