Borbetomagus filmproject
Hey all,
I'll be shooting a new documentary in June while traveling with Borbetomagus on a mini-tour to Northampton and Montreal, hopefully Boston as well. For part of the interview I would like to gather questions from fans or people who just want to ask them something. I would try and include as many questions as possible. You can send your questions to jef@tapingpolicies.be - please use 'Borbeto question' as header/subject. Hope to see some of you in June. |
Awesome, can't wait to see it.

My ears are still ringing from the racket they made last year. Let's just say that their stage presence is grotesquely fantastic, particularly when they went into a mode that reminded me of the head of someone severely ill approaching the coma state.

June 9th - Northampton, MA - The Elevens w/ Sunburned + Fat Worm Of Error www.elevensmusic.com June 11th - Montreal, Quebec - Casa Del Popolo w/ Martin Tetreault and David Lafrance www.casadelpopolo.com June 12th - Allston, MA - O'Briens w/ Heathen Shame + Duck That! + Peace Loving www.obrienspubboston.com |
Awesome.
If someone happens to attend to any of those shows, and could be so kind to buy Jef Mertens a drink on my behalf, that'd be cool :). Surely those performances will spawn an amazing film. Of course you'll be working, but i also hope you have a lot of fun, Jef! |

wow, hadn't checked this thread in a while. The short tour was great of course. Got some great interviews and gathered some good footage.
At the moment I'm still working out how to assemble everything and am also looking for some old Borbetomagus footage which is not an easy hunt. Narlus, yeah I was the one with the black Canon. Pictures look really good My footage is way darker as there was only 1 light working. I will keep you guys posted on the film and you can check the link in my earlier post for updates. |
I've put a new website online for the documentary in production.
Including a sneak preview into the 1st part of the film. http://www.borbetomagusmovie.com |

Nice meeting you at Graag Traag, Jef!
How did the filming go? Your highlights? mine: Charlemagne Palestine & Tony Conrad were really impressive, except for Palestine's voice every now and then. To my surprise I didn't see him drinking the whole day... until after his performance, when he was walking around with 2 glasses of wine to make up for the lost time. Paul Labrecque with Louise Landes Levi in the artspace sounded really great (could've done without the poetry beforehand though) Sylvester Anfang II (only the second time I've seen them) Steve Gunn & John Truscinski (hoping to catch them again in Den Haag tomorrow) I liked Charalambides too, but there was something odd. Christina didn't look good to me. She was shaking constantly and I was wondering if she had a cold. It's been a few years since I last saw them, but her voice was much different on Saturday... maybe it was just illness. Nice venue as well (both of them actually). |

Hey twas nice meeting you too. I think we share about the same highlights. Also liked ralph white although his set was a bit too long. The filming went pretty good, still have to check all my footage. I'm also gathering some more footage and trying to work something out. Maybe a small compilation dvdr with above artists, I'll see what comes out of it. All in all a great fest. Maybe part three next year? |
Agreed about Ralp White. I liked that for a song or 5, but after that I was dozing off, also because it was really warm inside that place. I'll definitely try to be there again next year.
Gunn/Truscinski again really good last night. |
New update including two new stills from the film:

I saw Donald Miller solo acoustic a few years ago, and he has an LP of that material out as well, pretty cool stuff. I also saw him play table-top guitar (heavy use of objects/devices) in a noise/improv band called Death Posture (if I remember correctly) that accompanied butoh or butoh-inspired dancers/performance artists.

Congratulations to Jef Mertens, "A Pollock Of Sound" is now out and can be ordered from amazon!
