If Sonic Youth Were Let in To the R&R Hall of Fame Who Would Induct Them ?

I was just thinking about this last night and couldn't really think of an easy answer. If SY ever do make it in there what musicians do you think should be the ones to induct them ? who were heavily influenced by SY enough to talk about this phenomenal band and possibly do a few of their songs before they hit the stage.

defcon4 08.11.2006 12:02 PM

A couple people spring to mind. Iggy Pop, Beck, Patti Smith, Malkmus, Pixies, Husker Du...
I don't know, do the people who introduce inductees really come from before that band's time or after it? I think Iggy would be the best.
If none of those people are available, maybe Madonna can come out and play Catholic Block. That would be sweet

Ono Soul 08.11.2006 12:03 PM

I think Patti Smith would be a really good choice. I could totally see her writing a poem about SY and reciting it as her induction speech.

sweetsisterray 08.11.2006 12:04 PM

glenn branca - since he is partly responsible for bringing them together -

fluxequalsrad 08.11.2006 12:16 PM

MIKE WATT!!!!!!!!! duh

Daycare Nation 08.11.2006 12:18 PM

Lindsay Lohan.

Rob Instigator 08.11.2006 12:35 PM

mike watt would be perfect!

sonikjuice 08.11.2006 12:47 PM

I think Mike Watt would be great, but I could see David Bowie doing it as well (he's a big fan)

Cantankerous 08.11.2006 12:48 PM

hahahaha david bowie.
hahahahahahhahahaha.

Alex's Trip 08.11.2006 12:48 PM

Glenn Branca was my first thought.

darthblav 08.11.2006 12:58 PM

This will sound totally bad, but the hall of fame like eddie vedder alot and i could see him being one to introduce them.

i would prefer iggy or mike.

Magic Wheel Memory 08.11.2006 01:00 PM

I think they generally try to have someone who is either in the hall of fame or potentially could be someday. As much as I would love Mike Watt, he probably lacks the starpower (no pun intended) for the hall to select him. David Bowie or Neil Young might be OK, since they are both big fans. From what I've read, SY had some rough times on tour with Neil Young, so that might not be the best choice, although SY seemed to respect Neil himself.

LittlePuppetBoy 08.11.2006 03:45 PM

they'd probably pick someone no one cares about. Like Bono!

the ikara cult 08.11.2006 05:30 PM

they should induct themselves!

silverfreepress (sdasher) 08.11.2006 05:33 PM

Johnny Rotten would be the humorous choice
but realistically it would be Lou Reed

Washing Machine 08.11.2006 05:33 PM

Well i think it will be a few years yet, i which case my band will be huge and i'll induct them!!! :p ...

A guy can dream! :D

PAULYBEE2656 08.11.2006 05:42 PM

mike watt, glenn branca, prehaps kramer from mc5, iggy pop as well

Hip Priest 08.11.2006 06:22 PM

Some dude from the Grateful Dead?

golden child 08.11.2006 06:30 PM

aaron dilloway.

TheDom 08.11.2006 06:32 PM

I would.

Washing Machine 08.11.2006 06:42 PM

I agree if not me, it should of course be either Glenn Branca or Mike Watt

Apparently, neither Iggy Pop nor The Stooges have been inducted yet: http://www.futurerockhall.com/past.php

EDIT: Patti Smith hasn't made it in yet either.

atari 2600 08.12.2006 12:16 AM

...which is all the more reason why Lou Reed should do it.

He's met them too. I was friends with Moe's daughter Kerry (we fell out of touch when I moved from Athens) & she remembers meeting Sonic Youth when she was in junior high & Lou was there.

We had friends in common. One day I walking along on the UGA campus & I spotted her trying (rather unsuccessfully) to park. I taught her how to parallel park that day & we became fast friends.

She looks just like her mother. Her younger brother Richard played drums in his mom's band. He has a band in Athens now called Mother Jackson for which he plays guitar.

As much as I love the guy, I would not want David Bowie to be involved. That is borderline ridiculous. Adding the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to the mix is even more embarrassing.

static-harmony 08.12.2006 02:47 AM

Maybe Trent Reznor could do it he could do a industrial version of In the Kingdom #19

luxinterior 08.12.2006 02:54 AM

I'd support that.

this thread should have been titled...

if sonic youth were let into the rock and roll hall of fame, that would be a fucking travesty.

Oh, whine whine whine. Selecting different inductees won't change the fact that it's the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The whole thing is really unnecessary no matter who they induct.

finding nobody 08.12.2006 10:13 AM

that's true. but, i just have alot of love for the stooges

I know Sonic Youth were at Bowie's 50th birthday bash...but really, even I giggled a little at the suggestion, and I would consider myself a huge fan of his.

Maybe there's just something innately funny about the idea that David Bowie does anything of any importance any more, especially when it relates to music. Because he doesn't. Or at least when he does, it sucks, or is boring.

Still a fan, but I can't pretend like I'm interested in what he's doing at this very moment.

holy-reverb!! 08.12.2006 12:11 PM

fred "sonic" smith, mike watt or iggy pop.
