If you curated atp
Given all this talk about All Tomorrow's Parties, which groups would you chose if you were given the chance to curate?
My choices would be: Sonic Youth (duh) Mission of Burma Pixies Smashing Pumpkins (possibly, depending on how their reunion goes) Meat Puppets (reunion) Controller.Controller Interpol Radiohead Dalek Greg Ginn solo International Noise Conspiracy .....and a bunch of others |
I like yr choices. mission of burma! I would have the following

A reformed Les Rallizes Denude; Haino, in any capacity; Erasure; Sclub7; Mis-Teeq; Atari Teenage Riot; Kelis; Dr Dre; La Monte Young (Well tuned piano please); Bhundu Boys; Zakir Hussain; Lady Sov; Kano & Dizee Rascal.
And more. |
Let me think about it some more.
Also, I would love a reformed Les Rallizes Denudes but isn' one of them still exiled in North Korea for his part in the Yodo-go hijack thing in the 1970? Although he can't of been that much of an important member because they did most of their stuff after that. Actually, I've been trying to find out more about their link with leftist politics in Japan but information is thin on the ground. I read somewhere that the Japanese Red Army tried to get Mitzutani involved in the Yodo-go thing...if he did then there would be even less Les Rallizes stuff recorded. Imagine that! |
Quote:
I know next to nothing about the band, other than that their recordings are a) Very Good & b) Rare. Link me up yo. |
Quote:
Ireland, as it happens. On your myspazz is it? What's the address again? |
Quote:
i'd go for denudes, haino, s club 7, atr (with zombie carl crack i presume), lamonte and lady sov. i live jam between lamonte and lady sov would be the highlight. ps: graveyards suck, most boring "noise" band i've ever heard. |
sonic youth
(zombie) nirvana beck the white stripes cat power be your own pet gang of four unwound the stooges radiohead meat puppets dinosaur jr. animal collective Pixies Queens of The Stone Age patti smith that'll do |
Quote:
Cha-Ching. I'd also like to have a 'festival' with Lady Sov involving her anatomy and some sort of lubricant. Cha-Ching. |
i bet you do
|
Sonic Youth
Gang of Four Pixies Tv on the Radio Tom Waits Shellac Thee Speaking Canaries Hella Outkast The For Carnation Iggy Bowie The White Stripes |
Yeah, I listened to the tracks earlier. The SY influence is coming out quite heavily in them. Very good though, I'll definitely get you some gigs down here at some point.
|
to be honest i think i would have a tv on the stagewith one of the previous years fest's on and bugger off to rio with all the money laughing like a banshee all the way.
|
all of my favorite bands are old or defunct. sorry.
|
Sonic Youth (headline act)
The Flaming Lips The Breeders (i'd make then reunite) Hole (i'd make them reunite) Giant Drag Sleater-Kinney (I's make them reunite) Dinosaur Jr Cat Power Evan Dando Steven Malkmus & The Jicks Joni Mitchell (she'd be the first act on) Bob Mould The Dandy Warhols (but they'd only be allowed to play 4 songs) |
Sonic Youth
The Cure David Bowie Nick Cave Lou Reed Pixies The Stooges Neil Young Tool Arcade Fire Beck Alice in Chains Opeth Patti Smith R.E.M Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg possibly more I've forgotten... |
Mine would be something like this:
Sonic Youth The Smashing Pumpkins Red Hot Chili Peppers Pink Floyd Brian Wilson System of a Down Radiohead The Kinks Muse My Chemical Romance (you can laugh!) The Mars Volta Nine Inch Nails Pulp The Pixies |
Quote:
are you going to be making your way down to london for the two haino shows in september? |
Quote:
this one, for the most part, is like a nightmare. OHHH GOD MAKE IT STOP!!!! AND NEXT UP ARE THE CHILI PEPPERS!!! AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
I'll go the less-of-a-fantasy route
Be Your Own Pet Animal Collective OOIOO OLAibi Laurie Anderson Yoko Ono Cat Power Ray Davies Lou Reed Elvis Costello Afrirampo Tom Waits Dinosaur, Jr. Sonic Youth Neil Young |
Quote:
and you say naught of (potentially a joke...) Glice's?!?!?! sclub7!?! mis-teeq?! kelis!? |
Quote:
Which Elvis Costello would you request? As in, from what stage in his career? |
add:
Camper Van Beethoven OLAibi Afrirampo Elf Power Kate Bush damn, quoted too fast... Cat Power could do half a set with The Memphis Rhythm band. I'd like to hear that band backing Laurie & her stepping away a little from her more recent storytelling/minimalist work. And Lou Reed & her could do a half a set together too. I suppose it might be great if Pavement could reunite at ATP sometime. ...his new stuff with Toussaint, but of course he'd have to play at least a couple of classics. |
I haven't got that yet... I guess its worth a listen.
|
OH! Add in The Advantage to my list everyone!
|
Well, it's less disappointing than the recent Paul Simon/Brian Eno pairing.
how about an Arcadia reunion with Herbie Hancock? fantasy supergroups: Yoko Ono-v Sean Lennon-g,v Thurston Moore-b,v Yoshimi-d,v ...Radiohead playing with Brad Mehldau Trio! ...Brad Mehldau Trio doing straight-ahead standards while Kate Bush sings them! ...Soweto Kinch with The Original Silence! ...Dylan & The Dead!!! (Actually, this one is no fantasy. He toured with them when Jerry was alive & they toured again together during the Summer of '03.) |
Add:
I meant to throw in some Be Your Own Pet too. Possibly the Flaming Lips because they do good shows, but I don't like their recent stuff. |
Quote:
don't know about mis-teeq or kelis (early on, she was killer) but i much much rather have s club 7 than the junked up blandy poseurs. |
hahaha s club 7 had a TV show
|
S CLub 7 had several TV shows and they were all awsome
