The beach/summer thread
Any beachgoers out there? Share your memories or bad experiences at the beach. It's almost summer!
|
last sumbertiem I proposed to my trooluv on st kilda. it was wimtertiem though. you know?
|
I've been going to the beach the last couple summers. Watching people play volleyball and some intense swims in the lake. It's a lot of fun and I look forward to it every summer now. I hadn't gone in years up until a couple years ago.
|
the beach is fun, but it can be draining, worked in Ocean City all last summer, and did the beach maybe 3 times, and was done after June
|
I live a few minutes walk from the beach. It's not a great beach. But yeah. Beaches. Everyone should live by the beach. Mmm. Beach.
|
Life's a beach and then you die
|
I rarely hang out on beaches, but when I was like 14 we were on the coast.
There was this bunch of 20+ year old chicks, all topless on the beach..I was lucky that day. You can just imagine, at that age...holy shit that was cool |
I was at Dunkirk beach during the evacuation with the nazis biting at our ass. There was no sunbathing or surfing that day. (joke)
|
I haven't been to the beach in a long time....I should probably go sometime.........
|
beach + summer = hate + hate
beach + winter = don't hate |

Anyone near Venice in LA, or the Jersey shore? Both places are filled with interesting people. Sometimes it's better to just watch what people are doing.
|
|
I sometimes see this guy skating around. He's kind of a local legend, I suppose.

That dude who skates around Venice is more of a celebrity than I thought:

I was at the beach over the weekend. Didn't see anything weird.

THE BEACH =
- sun poisoning for albinos (like myself) - exhaustion from trekking across sandy terrain - sand in crevices of your body you were unaware heretofore existed - screaming children. No matter how empty the beach appears, always screaming children. - dangerous and often injurious litter left behind from other beachgoers; my personal favorite, glass shards and cigarette butts - more sand - fowl waste - aggressive and frightening birds that produce aforementioned fowl waste - the tinny sound of surrounding beachgoers' inevitably shitty music - stickiness. Sunscreen, melting popsicles, the screaming children (entirely sticky by nature) - more sand - if you are imbibing alcohol, an unpleasant acceleration of the intoxication process - if you are not imbibing alcohol, a desire to be intoxicated - annoying fitness gurus jogging the length of the shore, flaunting their self-perceived athleticism, internally contemplating their superiority over those of us who are simply lounging on the sand - the inevitable sighting of couples strolling hand in hand along the water, apparently feeling the need to bring every personal ad ever written in America to life - bit more sand I will not be visiting the beach this summer. |

Just popped back on to say, I am about to venture out on errands. I stepped outside and within .2 seconds was blasted with a noxious wave of oppressive heat. Fuck summer and all its proponents. |
She's Greek. She lives next door to Vangelis.
|
I'm in FL of course I love the beach. I seem to have random objects hit me each visit though. Last time a flying umbrella, and a football hit my ass. Time before a surfboard smacked my head.
The river is more fun though. Sandy beach and lots of trees. Only drawbacks r the gators, snakes and ticks:) |
Summer eats it. Swimming, however, is the only antidote.
|
Yeah, sometimes I enjoy hanging by a lake more, but nothing beats the ocean, especially if you surf or bodyboard.
|
I found that venice guy in a meme:

I love beaches but hate hot summer weather.
Summer + hot sun = Laser beams burning holes thru my skull. Bright sun actually hurts my eyes, even with sunglasses on. Winer snowstorms = Beautiful, therapeutic, calming = The best! But I would live in ANY climate to live on the WATER. My dream is to live on a houseboat (but not on the Amazon). |
That sounds really rad. I like living near the ocean; I can't see myself living anywhere else.
|
Providing the weather is good i should be cycling to Walberswick this weekend (about 40 miles), camping on the beach then walk to Southwold the next day to get the best fish and chips and beer i have had in the UK.

Where was tsiko standing for the wave to try and poach him? |
I saw this guy over the weekend again. He had a pretty large crowd following him, just walking and taking pictures. I guess they were just following him because of this:

I spent most of my youth, for subcultural reasons, trying to convince myself that I hated the beach. But I'm actually never happier than when I'm on one.
|
I love the beach. Any beach. Favorite beaches are in Maine because the temperature of the water is refreshing coldly. Usually between 65 to 72 fariheit. Can easily spend 8 hours or more in the sun. Favorite activity body surfing.
Perfect 24 hours at the beach: Dig a pit and heat rocks in a fire for the entire day while swimming and body surfing, smother the fully heated rocks with seaweed then place lobsters, clams and corn on cob on top of seaweed and slowly steam food to eating perfection. Clean up and start a bonfire, add music live or a boombox, add friends and party finish night off by climbing in a sleeping bag with a partner of choice and making love under the stars till the sun rises. Spent some of the best days of my life this way. Not this week because of the holiday but the week after I'm going to the beach. |
i had a great 24 hours on the beach saturday-sunday. the weather was perfect, yesterday there wasn't a cloud in the sky. i also really enjoyed the 41 mile bike ride i did to get there on my mountain bike (took about 4 hours) it felt good!
