Punk Intelligentsia
From the ridiculous (Oi!) to the sublime.
But who deserves the title, "punk grand master". |
Philosophy?
|
I was to fast for the poll.
Talking Heads was my choice. ![]() Does anyone remember these guys. |
No, but I like the look of them
|
Well this is all highly subjective stuff...
In my opinion they all deserve merit apart from Talking Heads. But Richard Hell will always be my "Punk Grand Master" ![]() |
Ubuubuubuubuubuubu...
|
Richard Hell is the ''Grand Master''. The entire movement in England came from what Malcom Mclaren brought back with him from the USA, namely the complete look and attitude of one Richard Hell.

I know isn't it? I'm not trying to start a battle but ''Punk'', the term, the music and lifestyle started in the US, the fashion started in the UK and some great music came out of the UK.
Fair enough? |
no john lydon?

nobody said it didn't, mr defensive. |
I'm Not Being Defensive, Damnit!!!!
|
You two!!
|
haha...I think its my nature to become defensive about punk rock origins, simply because the majority of people are ignorant and un-educated on this matter. So, forgive because I, for a brief moment, forgot I was speaking to some of the most knowledgeable and enlightened music enthusiasts available. And as a token of my sincerest apologies here's a little bit of something
![]() |
the first punk song was I Got A Right by The Stooges from 1972 although the band themselves were more proto-punk like MC5
The Ramones were the grandmasters of course Neon Boys are coming in second regardless of dates |
thanks, that's a nice tripod logo.
|
If i hear one more person deciding wich one was the first punk song or where it originates from,i'll go out and bite the head of a random pigeon.Fuck's sake!!

The Stooges were just a heavy rock band, don't believe the hype. Television (with Richard Hell) pre-dated Voidoids, but Hell certainly had the punk image nailed. I'm not saying who had the first punk song for fear of an innocent pigeon buying the farm. |

Promise? The Sonics - Psycho....bite you bastard, go and bite! I want blood this morning!!! |
Pigeons,here i come!AAArrrggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

i meant to say The Neon Boys I Got A Right is an amazing song in its own right and an undeniable blueprint for punk. |
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Toilet & Bowels again.

damn it, i want to get higher in the rep table! |

have you already gone over I Got A Right |
I think Pork has ''Got a Right'' to slaughter a pigeon and also to ignore that song possibly.....I'm just saying...
|
I think Crazy Horses is the first punk single.

have you heard it? |
hmmmm......I tried to let it die...honestly...everyone saw my peace offering...arrghhh...Pookie1
|
I like a lot of the acts listed in the poll...who did I pick?
Talking Heads |
Quote:
haha this thread is about the grandmasters i just wanted to know if youve heard it. do you use soulseek? |
Quote:
yes I have, I actually had a Iggy Pop t-shirt, that had ''I Got A Right'' on it. |
it seems like two different groups of style between The Ramones and Richard Hell. i mean The Sex Pistols didnt sound anything like The Ramones.
I didnt realize till now Dee Dee had actually auditioned for The Neon Boys as a second guitarist. |
I blame it on you lot.
![]() |
Did you have bread sauce with that pigeon?
|
You heartless Homo! heheh
So what must we do to see that escalate to a human being? Argue over post-punk? Split hairs over creator(s) of Free Jazz? TELL US! |
Actually, spookie was asking for advice on his choice of lunch today...............
