Is pop music 'descending into porn'?
http://www.channel4.com/news/is-pop-...to-pornography
It's turning into a bit of a moral panic here in the UK ![]() |
Since when?

Couldn't help but notice it's only Christina Aguilera that's gotten everyone's knickers in a twist.
|
It's not just Christina Aguilera. Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Nicole Scherzinger, Rihanna and Katy Perry are also getting some flack for their 'risky' videos.
|
Considering I'm not a fan of any of them, I couldn't give a toss what they knock out as I wouldn't be watching their saucy vids.
|
until popstars start becoming violated by multiple throbbing tentacles, in their holes that are not already filled with each others spiked strap-ons, I'm going to he forced to sadly answer 'NOPE'.
|
imagine you have smart girls (with clothes on and not tested on animals make-up + eat vegetarian)
who sing about babies who are brainwashed with politics and religion ? it's all just a moneymachine that gives its employees ( the singer, the band) and award for making the most money, selling the most records the same with festivals that are now bought buy ? multinationals ? that is making alot of money on the commercial, tickets and all that their greedy money hands can grab a modern explotation of music by imbecils with commercial idea's |
The debate's really just an extention of a much bigger one regarding the supposed sexualisation of children. Pop obviously targets that audience so it's being looked at in the same way that those high street shops selling sexy lingerie to children have. So it's not a debate about pornography in itself.

Not until penetration and fellatio enter the mix.

we're living in the porn-age.
EVERYTHING is turning into porn. |

Its an old debate and I think a simple question is asked. Who has influence over your kid's attire or behavior. Is it the music and tv they are watching? Or the parents raising the kid? Just because a pre-teen girl wants to wear short skirts and belly baring outfits, doesn't mean the parents should allow them to. They can idolize these people all they want. It all has to do with how they are being raised. The same people who make arguments about pop music on television are the same people who want to censor music and movies. I have always found it a bit funny how the UK mainstream media overblows any teenage trend it seems and, and are quick to say its corrupting the youth. Like when Stanley Kubrick had to pull "A Clockwork Orange" from the theatres due to copycats. Its not like America hasn't had its own moments of blaming crime on certain music or movies, but this knee-jerk get rid of if attitude that seems to happen in the UK is rather ridiculous.

I have to agree with pretty much everything you say there. We have a tabloid media in the UK which basically thrives on that kind of hysteria, be it scapegoating movies (the whole video nasties thing, banning Childs Play) to inspirings mobs to burn down the houses of paediatricians. There's obviously something that needs to be done not just with shops willing to sell trainer bras with 'porn star' written on them, but the parents who obviously felt happy buying them until they were banned. If parents didn't buy them there'd be no reason to ban them, the companies wiould simply not bother manufacturing them. Pop videos are slightly different in that parents obviously have less control over their kids access to them (which isn't to say they don't have any). And if parents have limited control over their kids, then governments have even less. In that instance it seems less about what should be done (a debate in itself) and more about what can be done. Beyond that the argument can only be that if the music industry knows this is happening, does it have a duty to censor itself? But ultimately, yes, I agree. |
I do not mind this.

In related news the UK also has outright banned "The Human Centipede 2". The film doesn't sound any worse then most horror films, and given the fantastical quality of this movie, there are far more shocking, and disturbing films then this movie.

This arguement is dumb, kids are smart and elusive and will watch what they want if they want to. My parents wouldnt allow me to watch tons of things that I would easily just sneak off to friends houses to watch... |
Also, blame the media system and advertising...not necessarily the actual contents of the media itself....
strip clubs, brothels and all kinds of things have been around since ancient times...for adults to enjoy... ...but we live in an era were sexual imagery and all kinds of oversaturated adds on billboards, buses, newspaper stands, etc etc run rampant. |

What scares me about the Mail is that it seems to reflect and pander to the view of a worryingly large section of the British public. Now if there was a way of banning them, then we might be getting somewhere. |

I imagine this to be a bit like derek, on stage at his friend's gay day gig, screaming wildly, whilst beating on the tambourine with his shoes....albiet much more gay, and sedate, like, say, genteel death singing along to Everyday is Like Sunday, but it's not...it's Rhianna instead. |

K, anyhow...good points made by Nefeli, LifeDistortion, and demonrail. I haven't had enough coffee to address these points singularly, and I do agree that upbringing plays some part in behavior, principles, etc., but a concise summation of my thoughts: I truly believe that humans are born either dumb and impressionable, or intelligent and capable of deductive reasoning. I don't care if you're the child of neurosurgeons or homophobic moonshine brewers, you either understand that "yeah, looks cool on Playstation 3, but probably frowned upon to bring a machine gun to gym class," or you're a complete fucktard that probably had a few dents in the embryo to start with. PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY IS DEAD. |

So democracy scares you, does it? You oligarchical thinking fucks should move to North Korea and spare us your pitiful whining. And you can take that sad excuse for a paper that hardly anyone in the UK reads, The Guardian, with you. |
Democracy is fine when it brings about what I want. When it doesn't it's merely the voice of the mob.

the big issue is porn becoming more mainstream - the current pop music simply channels that fact..
yes, it also reflects on the "tween" culture, and that is scary for most parents... elvis's hips? yep - the same story... |

Yes. Somebody gave me OK magazine once and it was way worse than that. |

Maybe then people would actually buy The Big Issue.

Oh people buy the big issue.
Recently I saw someone from this board doing it. But I'm not gonna name names. |
