Favourite Velvet Underground album

I've always been a big fan of their self titled (third) album.

Trasher02 08.26.2006 05:58 AM

The velvet underground and Nico should be Peel slowly and see.

I accedently(grammarpolice omfg) took white light/white heat which is good but Peel slowly and see is better.

jon boy 08.26.2006 05:58 AM

this proved to be more difficult than imagined.

Peel slowly and see wasn't the title of the album, but an instruction on the early copies which had a removable banana (it revealed a flesh coloured banana beneath). The record was always called Velvet Underground & Nico and sometimes referred to as the banana LP.

fishmonkey 08.26.2006 06:25 AM

white light/white heat for me. its a fuckin classic from begining to end

finding nobody 08.26.2006 09:53 AM

the third/// at least recently. WL/WH was tops until I really appreciated the beauty scattered on the third one.

But I really really dig their fourth MGM album... There's a site that has instructions for making an album that was suppossed to come out before they made loaded on atlantic. It's made of tracks from VU and Another View and is pretty wicked.

http://olivier.landemaine.free.fr/vu...lostalbum.html
there's the site for the lost album

porkmarras 08.26.2006 12:50 PM

white light white heat

Everyneurotic 08.26.2006 12:51 PM

i voted squeeze because i only have vu&n so far.

porkmarras 08.26.2006 01:17 PM

If you listen to sister ray on a pair of good headphones you can almost feel the tension that was going on during the recording of it.Amazing.

RdTv 08.26.2006 02:32 PM

White Light. If only just for the song ''The Gift''.......

Cantankerous 08.26.2006 02:36 PM

i love that story. i mailed it to my mom.

m^a(t)h 08.26.2006 02:38 PM

I recently played that song for some friends of mine and they were disenchanted at the beginning but when they started to listen to the story accompanied by the murky rythyms, they ended up liking it.

I felt good about myself.

Cantankerous 08.26.2006 02:43 PM

box set - 1995

porkmarras 08.26.2006 02:47 PM

I've always liked Lou Reed's version of 'Ocean'(as bad as that first solo album is) until i heard the original Velvet underground version of it.Blinding!

o o o 08.26.2006 02:50 PM

white light/white heat... but the VU & Nico and the self-titled are really not far behind...

LittlePuppetBoy 08.26.2006 03:01 PM

White Light.

though VU and Nico is a classic.

acousticrock87 08.27.2006 01:35 AM

I haven't heard the s/t, but I gotta go with the majority from the other three. WL/WH is flawless. I keep picking up the s/t and putting it down. I'll buy it one of these days, if it's the last thing I do...

punkaspoo 08.28.2006 04:42 AM

I've only heard The VU & Nico and Loaded. Out of those two, I pick Loaded. A percet pop album.

nicfit 08.28.2006 05:07 AM

white whatever

right.apparently lou and john simply kept pumping the volumes of their instruments over and over to "get over" each other's sound, sorta "love/hate" thing.

Onani Nic 08.28.2006 05:14 AM

white light/white heat is the one I play most by far

CHOUT 08.28.2006 12:05 PM

Self titled is my favorite.

gmku 08.28.2006 12:09 PM

the first and White Light... are nearly equal in importance to me, and if the poll let me, I'd have picked both. I gave the nod to White Light becuz of Sister Ray...

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 08.28.2006 07:47 PM

They are all really close. I chose White Light/White Heat though. There is no denying the magic of the Gift. White Light/White Heat seems to be the most out there to me, even though it is less noisy than Peel. I think there is something special about it in my mind. Velvet Underground and Peel Slowly and See are right up there. Loaded is good but I don't like it as much.

Ya that was talked about in the documentary. I listened to it after, and the organ part they mentioned is hilarious. It completely drowns out Lou's voice.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 08.28.2006 08:05 PM

loaded does it for me

Cantankerous 08.28.2006 10:20 PM

"the gift" from white light is a great song to jam on instrumentally, i might add.

you know, there's an organ in the attic. i don't know if it works, but i should try and drag that down here. or make someone else do it while i sit on my ass and drink beer.

m^a(t)h 08.28.2006 10:32 PM

i enjoy the s/t the most. Its nice, soft and relaxing. Candy says is my favorite song by VU.

atari 2600 08.28.2006 11:14 PM

love 'em all (except Sqeeze...that one deserves the haha)

the 1st the most

Yea it is. SO much so that the song's music is one channel and the cale in the other... so if you want you can turn the balance all the way left (or right) and jus thear the band jam. This also works on murder mystery... one side lou composed and the other was sterling. Cool lil trick.

atari 2600 08.28.2006 11:30 PM

gee, that's a real newsflash

excuse my sarcasm

i got my organ for twenty dollars. i love it. hard as hell to get home though.

i think i will go with VU&Nico. i haven't heard WL/WH or VU yet though.
