Shonen Knife
|
"miracles" is the greatest song ever by an all-female band. and i don't say
that haphazardly. |
it's a tough call, but it's pretty certain that whatever the best song by an all female band is, there's a damn good chance it would be by shonen knife.
what about "punk animals"? |
tadadadada, blue eyes
tadadadada, blonde hair la la la twist barbie |
"punk animals" is awesome, in my SK top 10; "i wanna eat chocobars", "kappa ex", "tortoise brand pot scrubbing cleaners theme", "flying jelly attack", ridiculous. i'm going to be listening to their cds all day now!
|
Black bass is a classic.I've never been touched by a song about going fishing before.
|
i love them. shame about the drummer though.
|
What about their drummer?
|
china, she was killed on a van accident when she was on tour with her other band dmbq.
|
That's awful. I didn't know. R.I.P.
|
what is your favourite album by them?
i only know know their first two albums (burning farm, yama no attchan) and a few songs here and there... out of the more recent stuff i heard, there were some thing i loved and some things i wasn't so keen on... |
"pretty little baka guy/live in japan" is a must-have, but it's hard to find since
PLBG proper has been reissued, sans the live in japan tracks. either way you'll be hearing greatness. |

thanks, i will try to get that one next, then... |
i agree, pretty little baka guy/live in japan
|

their best album, i love the live in japan versions of baggs and lazybone more then the studio cuts what needs to be done is have jim o'rourke to curate the next atp to highlight the japanese underground, and still barry and helen will insist on inviting bardo pond |
antonio baka guy-ice cream city-ah singapore-riding on the rocket-kappa ex
that just might be the greatest single side b on vinyl |
Oh and don't you just want to jump while listening to Flying Jelly Attack?Does anyone know Hang On The Box?They're kind of like a chinese version of Shonen Knife in a way.

never knew that! when did that happen. |
Love this album here:

yeah, it rocks. got it a while back in my local shop for €2 or something.

there seems to be a consensus about pretty little baka guy / live in japan, good...

for every punk bitch & arsehole? i looked briefly at their website, and apparently their forthcoming album will be produced by blixa bargeld... i will try to listen to their music one day... ah, yes, and i got the title correctly. |
Best broken english pop punk record i have known for a while. And they seem to be marching on(as in they get better and better)
|
it happened last winter, i think before christmas.
i have some friends who were close friends of hers, its a fucked up thing. to go on tour and not come back. i went to a farewell party for china with my friend who was friends with her. she wanted someone to go with. i felt awful. it was full of people who were friends of hers, famous underground japanese musicians and just everyday friends, and i was there, id never met her, i felt so wierd, like i shouldnt be there. i think i was the only none japanese there. still it was quite touching and i felt very sad. i think she was in relationship with seiichi yamamoto. i went to see him play with phew not so long after and he didnt perform. it must have really had a massive effect on him, as it would for anyone in his situation. R.I.P China |
Here's some Hang On The Box mp3s.If Pete Doherty sang the same song i'd want to kill innocent puppies:

Check out 'no sexy' and 'now i wanna say apology to you'.
|
Even though I tend to be biased towards liking Japanese bands, I've never liked them. To be fair, I've only listened to a couple random songs once. What's the essential CD to get?
|
"burning farm", of the proper albums. it's their first and the songs t & b
linked are from it. every song is a goddamn classic. the first sk record i ever got though was their self-titled release, which was a compilation of "burning farm" and "yama no attachan", which were both at the time unavailable in america. so i'm incredibly biased towards it, but with the recent reissues, it's not essential. |
Could someone please upload an album. I would be so grateful. :) I've only been able to find around 30 mp3s over the past 2 years.
Sorry if I sound lame. I just want to hear more of their stuff. |

I remeber seeing them live a couple years ago (China was still around), and they put on a pretty good show. They played some Ramones songs for their encore. Pretty Little Baka Guy is definetly my favorite album of theirs.

thanks for the link, i hadn't caught that
|
i saw it at dime...didn't download it though.
best song by female band ever?...sheesh...whatever. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-female_band i'm not declaring they Shonen Knife are terrible because they certainly aren't, but the liberal use of hyperbole and willy-nilly ass-kissing thing around here is so fucked. Every fucking thread is nothing but agreement that whoever/whatever is being discussed is "awesome" or "rules." That is, as long as the thing being discussed is known to be "cool." Things that have a rep for maybe not being so cool usually get instantly trashed in unison by the herd. Look, they can't all rule. You must all live for rep points...so you *smooch* *smooch* all the time. oh well, i guess chabib chose well when he selected this layout for the forum. ...he must've thought...i'll go with the one with the gay-ass rep points because then people will all try to get along with each other to get the rep points and they'll not need much moderating, if at all... well, that sounds fine, yeah, but when it contributes to a sychophantic culture and population of milquetoasts, i gotta say count me out. |

stay out then, or would that be too easy? |

I'm a Shonen Kinfe addict for the second time in my life. And I love it!
