porkmarras 08.27.2006 08:31 PM

What exactly do you need cleaning?

HaydenAsche 08.27.2006 08:32 PM

Upload it here. I'll do it for you.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 08.27.2006 08:35 PM

uploading it now, its WAV so it wil be about 40 min.
When he recorded the track a lot of background fuzz and tape hiss got on the track plus you can just tell it was recorded too well. Im not sure if it can be fixed but I'll still upload it.

HaydenAsche 08.27.2006 08:42 PM

I can make it sound a little bit better unless it is really bad.

porkmarras 08.27.2006 08:45 PM

What software do you use Hayden?

HaydenAsche 08.27.2006 08:48 PM

I usually just use Audacity for recording and I do make some damn good recordings with a cheap ass computer mic and a shitty free program. I'm damn good at editing. I also have some Adobe programs and stuff I could use if this is really bad. Audacity is so simple. I love it.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 08.27.2006 08:50 PM

I myslef use audacity, but I think I might have passed it's limitations.

porkmarras 08.27.2006 08:53 PM

I have Audacity but i normally get best results with Sound Forge. This could be because i've used it for some time now and i can get the results i want in a shorter amount of time.

HaydenAsche 08.27.2006 08:56 PM

I can make a track recorded on a computer mic sound like something done from a direct line in Audacity in under 5 minutes. I've been using it for ages. I've never used Sound Forge.

porkmarras 08.27.2006 08:58 PM

Same here.It takes practice but once you get a taste for it..........

HaydenAsche 08.27.2006 08:58 PM

Is Sound Forge free?

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 08.27.2006 08:59 PM

15 more minutes.

porkmarras 08.27.2006 09:00 PM

No but the first version that i've had was given to me by my friend's dad.Don't worry he didn't want anything in return.

porkmarras 08.27.2006 09:01 PM

How long is the actual track?

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 08.27.2006 09:06 PM

thats cool.
the track is around 12 minutes.

porkmarras 08.27.2006 09:12 PM

I've been thinking for some time about a thread where the more creative contingent of the forum gets to ruin each other's music and puts it out on a compilation album. How's that for an idea?I've tried something similar on the other forum but all i got was a 2 second bassline from some guy and i've never done anything with it.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 08.27.2006 09:16 PM

hmm. Maybe.
Well heres the track, and thanks again.

HaydenAsche 08.27.2006 09:29 PM

That would be sweet. I have dibs on doing a Scissor Shock remix.

porkmarras 08.27.2006 09:30 PM

Well, let's start one then. You'll see the arguments on that one.......haha.

HaydenAsche 08.27.2006 09:39 PM

You start it. I'm reading.

This is rather good, actually. You're right, the sound is bad but the music i'm enjoying.Let's see.......

porkmarras 08.27.2006 09:44 PM

It reminds of the velvet underground and sonic youth of all bands.

porkmarras 08.27.2006 09:48 PM

I have to say that the quality of the sound is rather bad.I've added some needed treble to it and cut the abrupt ending of the track.

porkmarras 08.28.2006 05:24 AM

Right, there isn't terribly much that you can do to this track as it seems that that it's ben recorded on very cheap equipment and at not very accurate recording levels.I've added some treble, eliminated some hiss(sounds like it was recorded on a dictaphone to me) and tried to lower its volume a bit.I'll re-post it in a bit.

porkmarras 08.28.2006 08:56 AM

Here it is.I've tried my best:

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 08.28.2006 03:10 PM

Hey thanks a lot. It is a shame because it's a great song but he has no recording experience. Ill give yr fix a listen.
Im going to be working on the notes soon and if you'd like yr name on them let me know.

porkmarras 08.28.2006 03:18 PM

No problem.I was a bit bugged by it because it is a pretty good piece of music recorded in an awful way.Who is it anyway?

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 08.28.2006 03:21 PM

The guys name is eli adelman. I believe he goes by gustav though. Thats what the tape was labeled.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 08.28.2006 03:23 PM

hes from the board too.

Hi,
i saw on the SY message board, that your taking guitar peices for a compolation. do they necessarily havew to be "noise"? I've got an eleven minute krautrock peice for solo guitar+looper (sounds like neu! meets glenn branca, kind of). i can send it to you if you are inerested. bu the only problem is the only format i have it on is cassete tape. let me know if thats OK.
thanks
Elie

porkmarras 08.28.2006 03:25 PM

Spotted the Glen Branca influence too.Not original in any way but who needs originality when the quality of the music is that good.I'm impressed(not by the recording but by the music)

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 08.28.2006 03:29 PM

Yeah, you can really tell towards the end. Some drums I think would bring it higher, but then it wouldnt qualify for the comp.

porkmarras 08.28.2006 03:31 PM

The music is good.It qualifies for something.I'd say put it on with its lo-fi charm and pervert the policy of such compilation. It wont do anyone anyone any harm.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 08.28.2006 03:34 PM

yeah, I have to put it on just because its good. A good closer I think.

fugazifan 08.28.2006 07:11 PM

Holy shit! thats me!!!
thanks you guys! i know the recording is horrible. i recorded onto a digital four track ut since i dont have the equipment to edit the tracks digitally, i just played them through my amp while a tape recorder with a mike was recording. old school shit. thanks for the kind words, its definatly glenn brance, neu! influenced. im very happy to hear that it might make it onto the comp.

fugazifan 08.28.2006 07:19 PM

oh by the way, its Gustaff with two "f's' at the end, not a V;-)

Can you not record into a laptop/pc with a little mike?I've been listening to that throughout the day.I really enjoyed it.In a way i think it should be left the way it is but i've improved the sound a little.
