Modest Mouse

Lonesome Crowded West is rivaling Knife Play for greatest record ever for me right about now.

"I'm going to Colorado
to unload my head
I'm going to New York City
and that's in New York, friends
I'm going to Arizona
sex on the rocks all warm and red
and we bled

and the writing in the stall said
"we write our own maps in the stalls"
I'm going up to Alaska
I'm going to get off scot-fucking-free
AND WE ALL DID!"

Anyone else fans?

Toilet & Bowels 08.29.2006 11:23 AM

did he get off scot-free after raping that chick, or whatever it was he was supposed to have done?

HaydenAsche 08.29.2006 11:24 AM

I think so. He didn't do it. Isaac Brock could rape me. He's almost as hot as Jamie Stewart.

gmku 08.29.2006 11:27 AM

???

Jimmy Stewart was aces in It's a Wonderful Life. Not bad in Vertigo, either. But I never found him very attractive.

ricechex 08.29.2006 12:10 PM

greatest record ever? u must not have heard too many records, fanboy.

Trasher02 08.29.2006 12:13 PM

Modest mouse rockzorz the pwnzorz.

I DON'T WANT YOU TO BE ALONE DOWN THERE TO BE ALOOOOONE.

Kick ass band seriously.

Glice 08.29.2006 12:39 PM

Don't you love those posts where someone says they don't really have an opinion on something? Well, add this to your list of posts that bother to say they don't have anything to say, and laugh. Laugh like your face were made of jelly.

atari 2600 08.29.2006 12:40 PM

argh

they're horrible

Everyneurotic 08.29.2006 12:43 PM

already we'll all float on alright!
already we'll all float on alright!

(let the "you ignorant idiot, they released like 5 albums before they sold out blah blah blah!" responses begin)

No! Jamie fucking Stewart. As in, the handsome motherfucker in this picture.

Everyneurotic, I don't think they 'sold out' they just kind of chilled out. The moon and antartica was going in the direction that Good News went in.

Glice 08.29.2006 01:37 PM

I found myself enjoying MCR recently. Which is probably proof of the shitness of indie kids' opinions.

I too own plenty records.

Savage Clone 08.29.2006 01:37 PM

I have hated this music since day one. Their success baffles me. Absolutely unlistenable to my ears; I have hated few bands in the last decade as much as I hate this one.

Huh? That's a great pop song and pop album. I'm sorry you have no taste.

Please tell me you have the Ugly Casanova album (I saw them live for 6 bucks :))

Alex's Trip 08.29.2006 02:44 PM

I have "This is a long drive..."

Pretty good.

Norma J 08.29.2006 08:07 PM

Awesome band.

Cantankerous 08.29.2006 08:08 PM

i don't care for them.

nomadicfollower 08.29.2006 08:09 PM

I like Moon and Antartica (yes I said it), but the rest I don't really care for.

What I got from Everyneurotic post, was that he liked that song and album?

k-krack 08.29.2006 08:45 PM

I have, and love, the moon & antartica and Sad Sappy Sucker. Four-Fingered Fisherman is, perhaps, one of the greatest songs ever. much too short though, but the chorus is just fantastic. my plan was to buy them all (the local store had them all for cheap) but then said store closed. now the only store here only has tm&a and good news...

Cantankerous 08.29.2006 08:50 PM

you know what i did like? i liked the video for float on, with the sheep and things.

k-krack 08.29.2006 09:13 PM

yeh, it has a nice video.

HaydenAsche 08.29.2006 09:26 PM

Daddylikes, I love Ugly Casanova as well. I don't care for Good News that much but it's alright. The Good Times Are Killing Me is a wonderful track.

I love about half of Good News, including "Float On". The first 4 or 5 tracks are really good, and then the rest is crud and then "The Good Times Are Killing Me" is fucking sweet.

Ugly Casanova is just fucking amazing, and their live show was just as damn good.

Illsonicyouryouth 08.30.2006 12:15 AM

Building something out of nothing is my fav MM album. That "float on" song was very over played and now i'm over it!

alteredcourse 08.30.2006 03:34 AM

I'm glad i got to listen to this band before i'd heard a single word about them. my boyfriend of the time picked up "This is a long drive..." late 1999 and we both fell in love with it. i have a very special place in my heart for that band's album . i saw them live not soon after, and it was okay .

ive since heard a couple of their cds and can appreciate their consistent style but overall they're not a favorite, no .

i really hate when anything in the world gets a lot of hype - it really affects how i pick up on the group in the first place . i get into things way better through accident, where first hearing a band is as near a cherry-popping experience as possible . ive gotten into a lot of bands though that were hugely popular for a time but i subconsciously wait until the hype has died down and somehow 'accidentally' run into something and end up then hating it or loving it .
i dont know .

whorefrost 08.30.2006 06:13 AM

they've got some decent songs, i wouldn't say they were marvelous or anything. definitely overrated by indie kids. that song "a Different City" or whatever it's called is fucking great. I saw them live at ATP a coupla years ago, they were ok. I kept screaming a Different City in between songs to no avail.
