Riots in North London
It's all going off. Looks pretty scary.
Bloody yobbos.
For god's sake don't let them see this: "... initial ballistics tests on a bullet, found lodged in a police radio worn by an officer during Thursday's incident, suggested it was police issue – and therefore had not been fired by Duggan."
Well at least people give a shit about something. Pissed off enough to take back the city.
Please don't make this guy a martyr. |
Since when r u brits not rioting?
Since a police officer shot a man dead. I know it happens all the time in the US but in Britain it's just not the done thing.
I'd go as far as to say it's bad form.
Fucked up shit pooks. X0x0
I would head up there and give them rioters a hand but I've got a Napoleon torte in the oven.
And to think, we all laughed at the Kaiser Chiefs
What's Kaiser Chiefs' stupid hair got to do with it?
Or should that be Chiefs's?

very bad form all round, next thing these here yobo's will be wanting the vote. |
I have a friend from the U.S. who is visiting London as we speak. Pretty intense.
The areas so far affected are Tottenham and, to a far lesser degree, Enfield, Wood Green, Walthamstow and Brixton. With the possible exception of Brixton, there's no real need for a visitor to go to any of those areas. I've lived in London all my life and never stepped foot in Wood Green. I'm not even all that sure where it is.
can't we all just get along?????¿
More areas affected today: Hackney, Elephant & Castle, Harlesden, Shoreditch and Lewisham.
reports on fb saying Croydon has kicked off too
but i've seen no news reports yet (and i live far enough away from the town centre to be affected) (so far...) |
ok, now i can see smoke
It kicked off round here now.
I bet Boris Johnson is regretting his cuts to London's fire service now.
I just saw the news. there are white people rioting now.
I repeat: THERE ARE WHITE PEOPLE RIOTING IN LONDON. madness!!! |
There's a mixture of people rioting.
Bethnal Green station on fire.
I can't just sit by and watch the country burn without doing anything about it. I'm going to do it, I'm forming a Facebook group right now.
Kind of brilliant. A couple of small-ish private enterprises getting fucked. Mostly symbolic violence, seemingly. No non-interested civilians injured (though a fair few scared). Can't talk too much, as not in the capital. But yeah. Interesting.

that will show the world and everyone that you care. i want it to kick off in leeds as well. liverpool and birmingham are having a few scallywags have a go. you know its serious when both david cameron and boris johnson have to return from holiday, bloody terrifying! |
BBC is doing their best to show that it's not "symbolic" violence anymore. I have a cousin in Enfield who called me and said that it's growing more indiscriminate... Shit looks insane. I think it's interesting that some overlook the widespread social vandalism by elites, austerity measures and racist police violence that usually precipitates these situations.
Then there's this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITJcparImeQ&feature=player_embedded Why burn your own hood down? Fuck that. |
People have started defending their streets from the rioters, round here.
That was probably the Home Secretary, Theresa May. She's been on the BBC all morning.
Let's just say it's just bad people doing bad things. It's easier that way. |
A Sony distribution warehouse in North London was burned to the ground around 4:00 a.m. GMT this morning during the third straight night of riots in the UK. The 200,000 square-foot center housed the entire inventory of PIAS UK, the primary distribution hub for more than 150 independent labels.
No injuries were reported in the blaze, but all inventory is feared lost. XL/Beggars, Warp, Rough Trade, Domino, 4AD, Sub Pop, Secretly Canadian, Jagjaguwar, Drag City, Thrill Jockey, FatCat, Kompakt, Mute, Ninja Tune, Vice, and Soul Jazz are among those affected. Prior to the blaze, the manager of Rough Trade East tweeted that Trumans Brewery, the arts and media quarter that houses the store, was on lockdown and that the store had to be closed "as a precaution to ensure staff and customers can get home safe tonight." Today, Rough Trade is encouraging customers to assist in cleanup around the city. |
Oh no! All those shitty indie albums that only middle class wankers can afford to buy! In flames! HOW WILL OUR CULTURE SURVIVE THE LOSS OF SUCH PRICELESS ARTIFACTS?!? SO MANY MASTERPIECES LOST TO THE AGES!
Oh those feral proles! No respect for vinyl reissues and shitty indie rock! Oh spare a thought for all the people who will be denied the chance to buy physical copies of Animal Collective albums! The world needed to hear that Bon Iver album on a cd player. The world needed to sit through each track. How can we carry on now, our heads hung in despair amongst the ruins... this devastation... And the loss of livelihoods for the labels... those useful and necessary labels... that gave so much to enrich our lives... and only asked for £19.99 for a vinyl reissue in return. A reissue of an album we could have downloaded for free if we were really so stupid enough to believe it was worth hearing in the first place... oh god... All the masterworks of the artisans that sustain our very soul... lost... ![]() |
