It's a jungle out there...

Well?

porkmarras 08.30.2006 07:55 AM

Hip Priest, your polls are becoming tougher and tougher. There a too many good ones on there but i had to go for Grandmaster Flash's 'The Jungle'.Where's the tropical inspiration from?

Hip Priest 08.30.2006 07:57 AM

Most polls I make up, some I rip off from elsewhere on the net. This is the latter I'm afraid, although I had to whittle down the number of choices and add Creedence. I thought about adding Guns 'n' Roses, but I don't like them at all.

Thanks for voting.

Hip Priest 08.30.2006 07:58 AM

I voted Creedence, just ahead of Sidney Bechet and Lee 'Scratch' Perry.

porkmarras 08.30.2006 08:00 AM

If you'd have put Guns 'n' Roses on the poll i'm sure that a discussion about their merits,non-merits and blah blah blah blah would have esued.

Hip Priest 08.30.2006 08:03 AM

You think omitting them was a mistake then?

porkmarras 08.30.2006 08:04 AM

Gosh,no!!It was a good move in every way!

Hip Priest 08.30.2006 08:06 AM

I was thinking a long, protracted and ultimately acrimonious argument, killing off board friendships and creating a forum war, would have kept my thread bumped.

Pookie 08.30.2006 08:08 AM

Mmmmm....very difficult decision.

Controversial I think, but I went with the Gun Club in the end, thinking of the live radio version you get on the Death Party reissue.

But it could have been any of the list apart from Psychic TV for me.

porkmarras 08.30.2006 08:08 AM

You start with a poll and all you need is a couple of oversensitive posters to keep the thread going.ha

Hip Priest 08.30.2006 08:09 AM

The Gun Club have two votes already, I see.

Pookie 08.30.2006 08:10 AM

Maybe not so controversial as it appears to be winning.

porkmarras 08.30.2006 08:11 AM

It's early days pookie.Wait till somebody decides to argue that band's merits.I'm sure that somebody is hiding out there or behind your back.

Pookie 08.30.2006 08:14 AM

I hope sonicl appears then. He'll argue much more eloquently on behalf of Gun Club.

Hip Priest 08.30.2006 08:15 AM

I'm not familiar with Gun Club, but I know of them. What type of combo are/were they?

porkmarras 08.30.2006 08:19 AM

Hip Priest,i invited Kate Moss into the thread because apparently if you have her as a friend she makes you popular:

"A formative influence on cowpunk and horror punk, the Gun Club in injected punk rock with doses of blues and country music. Pierce's wailing vocals were an ideal delivery for his songs, which generally had a spooky, haunted quality."

I've heard the expression psychobilly blues applied to them also. At their best, they were one of the best bands of the 80's. Ask sonicl to do you a tape, he's the expert (sorry sonicl for offering your services).

alyasa 08.30.2006 08:24 AM

I voted creedence too... and i wonder what kate moss thinks about all of this...

Hip Priest 08.30.2006 08:26 AM

Thank you Pookie, and thank you alyasa. And thank you porkmarras, I think. I'm not too familiar with Kate Moss either, except I heard she takes lots of drugs, and she's some sort of model. Does she have any other achievements under her belt?

Pookie 08.30.2006 08:28 AM

No.

porkmarras 08.30.2006 08:31 AM

The Rough Trade shops were advertising their compilations as Kate Moss-free products.Beware:she can make or break you.

porkmarras 08.30.2006 08:32 AM

Should i invite her boyfriend around too?

Hip Priest 08.30.2006 08:32 AM

I'm probably best advised to stay away from her then.

What's her boyfriend like?

Beware: if he comes round my thread causing trouble, then I'll just get Tenpole Tudor round to sort him out.

porkmarras 08.30.2006 08:37 AM

'Hi,i'm Kate's on/off boyfriend.I'm Pete and i'm clean.Very clean.''

Hip Priest 08.30.2006 08:38 AM

Jesus, is that a still from Oliver Twist? That's not a real person, right?

My security team:

'There'll be none of that 'got to pick a pocket or two' nonsense in this thread, mate'.

porkmarras 08.30.2006 08:44 AM

An East London cockney urchin of some sort. You wouldn't mess with characters like that at the door.

Hip Priest 08.30.2006 08:44 AM

I'm off out for a bit. I'm leaving this threas in the capable hands of Tenpole Tudor, and I don't expect any trouble whilst I'm gone. It's a good clean thread, let's make it stay that way.

nicfit 08.30.2006 08:46 AM

the gun club, but G'N'R' would have been a though competitor...that's a nice pic of kate moss.

alyasa 08.30.2006 09:18 AM

I was thinking of something funny to say, upon seeing Pete Doherty and Tenpole Tudor stare each other down; then I realised this was funny enough all on its own...

fishmonkey 08.30.2006 09:29 AM

i pick that one.

porkmarras 08.30.2006 09:36 AM

'' we like it in here. Can we stay?''

HaydenAsche 08.30.2006 09:37 AM

I hate them all. Where is that answer?

Sorry mate. I considered it, of course (are we both thinking of the Tight Fit version?) but it's called 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight', so doesn't have the word 'jungle' in the title.

Everyneurotic 08.30.2006 09:53 AM

you forgot jungle boogie by kool & the gang, i love that song.

but my vote would have gone to welcome to the jungle.

Savage Clone 08.30.2006 09:53 AM

I would have voted for the Legendary Pink Dots tune of this name, personally.

These Pete pix are putting me off my breakfast.

Kate Moss has never been too appealing to me either, but I have to admit she looks good in the pic on the previous page. I think it's the short haircut and the fact that I can't see her ribs. She is far too thin for my taste. Pete on the other hand is just gross.
