Which SY-album are you most unfamiliar with ?

For me it's Sonic Nurse.
I've only listened to it a few times (not more than 2-3 times)..don't know why..

How about you others?

(sorry if this thread has already been made before)

mil_pl 10.05.2011 03:48 PM

I guess it's Confusion is Sex for me I can't listen to it more than few minutes. Though I dig one or two tracks from it.

Gulasch Noir 10.05.2011 03:51 PM

the newest one

EVOLghost 10.05.2011 03:53 PM

Hmm...most of the SYRs and other releases USA n such. THeir studio albums I am all very familiar with. I love them all.

fugazifan 10.05.2011 05:44 PM

NYCG&F

jennthebenn 10.05.2011 05:54 PM

NYC Ghosts and Flowers and myself are acquaintances. We exchange
friendly nods, that's about it.

Genteel Death 10.05.2011 05:54 PM

Many of their side projects or live recordings for sure. I'm always hoping for someone on this forum to come up and lead me through them with knowledge that goes beyond ''I LOVE SY''. Not holding my breath for now.

jennthebenn 10.05.2011 06:00 PM

I could sell "Fuck Shit Up" (Thurston/Lee/Christian Marclay) to anyone.
Maybe. I make no guarantees for Free Kitten, but I've been tempted to
give their discography a thorough treatment.

Please. You're the only person writing about SY I really care about anyway.

noisereductions 10.05.2011 06:36 PM

Hurricane Floyd is my favorite T improv disc.

Genteel Death 10.05.2011 06:48 PM

Why?

E. Noisefield 10.05.2011 07:28 PM

Uh.. hmm. I guess CIS. I still know all the songs, but I guess I don't know all the words.... actually I think I do, but I suppose it's the one I've listened to the least. :( Weird question.

I'm the kind of person who immediately familiarizes himself with everything a band does, once I establish that I like them.

noisereductions 10.05.2011 07:40 PM

genteel, I'd also like to recommend Sonic Death fan club release Live At The Continental Club. I'm perhaps a bit biased, as it's almost entirely material from Evol.

ann ashtray 10.05.2011 09:12 PM

Rather Ripped. But only because it sucks.

Strange as it may seem, but it's EVOL. I only remember Tom Violence :/

The self titled EP and Rather Ripped.

Same here actually.

It was the first SY album I ever listened to but I don't listen to it often at all.

krischanski 10.06.2011 07:45 AM

whaaaaaaaa?

sonic sphere 10.06.2011 03:33 PM

syr's 5 through 8

Count Mecha 10.06.2011 06:34 PM

Are we counting that first EP? With I Dreamed I Dream on it or whatever. Never heard that one in it's entirety. After that, it's probably A Thousand Leaves. Not for lack of listening to it, I just always forget what the middle sounds like. I think Female Mechanic Now On Duty is track three. I know Hoarfrost, Karen Koltrane, and Hits of Sunshine are in there somewhere, but it's just a jumble, and I don't remember any other titles before Heather Angel at the end. Still really enjoy that album though haha.

perverzion 10.06.2011 07:40 PM

maybe some SYR's aren't listened too much... but really--none

Part of Altar boy became "Rain on Tin", and if ya listen closely, part became "Turquoise Boy" as well (oddly enough, one of the better songs off of Rather Ripped).

I love Hurricane Floyd, too. Gorgeous album.

Dude.. how is that even possible?

How can you be a SY fan, a big enough fan to post on an SY board, and not be familiar with "Shadow of a Doubt", "Starpower, "Green Light", etc. ?

I don't get it.

That's like a Beatles fan who doesn't know Rubber Soul. Total WTF.

Pelle 10.07.2011 03:24 PM

I'm listening to Sonic Nurse now, trying to get "into" it and I certanily did!
It's really good but I still havent picked up any "hits" or favourite songs from it yet..guess It'll take some time.

E. Noisefield 10.07.2011 03:51 PM

Oh, and if we're counting the SYR releases, then certainly those would constitute most of my "least-familiar-with" list.

Nurse's best moments:

"Peace Attack"
"New Hampshire"
"Unmade Bed"
"Pattern Recognition"
"Dripping Dream"

Peace Attack kinda sounds REM-y, and you'd think that would make it suck, but it's actually a pretty perfect SY tune. I think REM rips SY, and that's why they sound similar at times. SY came first after all.

I think I agree with that list 100%. I'm pretty sure those are all my favorites. I seem to recall back in the day when Nurse was still semi new that not many people on here were big fans of Peace Attack. I think it's a great last track.

the ikara cult 10.07.2011 05:04 PM

Experimental jet Set. its their least cohesive album. I dunno if they were close to breaking up at the time they made EJS but i think they sound like a band whove lost their focus, it sounds like the end of an era stylistically.

Rob Instigator 10.07.2011 05:11 PM

least familiar with the shitstank suck that is EJST&NS

shit-STANK SUCK I say.

Count Mecha 10.07.2011 05:15 PM

I like EJST&NS still quite a bit. Hell, it's the first album of theirs I heard and the one that made me a fan. But I'll definitely admit it's an album that sounds like they made it just to make an album. But you're out of your mind if you don't know that Sweet Shine fucking RULES!

Rob Instigator 10.07.2011 05:21 PM

SHIT STANK SUX!

(compared to their other output. even shit stank suck SY is better than top of the line anyone else!)

Hmm. I don't think they were anywhere near breaking up during that period. Or during any other period, really.

I love EJS. It was my first SY album. It's like their White Album sorta, even though it's a Thurston/Kim affair and not really a "whole group" album. It's just crazy and laid back and unconcerned and totally badass.
