Cats. But that's only a marginal choice. Animals generally do my nut. Apart from Ferrets. Nasty little buggers they are, and all the better for it.

I have had both, and adore both. I like the aloofness and affection of cats, as well as their ability to take care of themselves. Both my cats died last year and I still haven't gotten over it. My dog is a total sweetheart though, and I feel like raising her was an extremely valuable experience. She's getting pretty old now too, but still as great as ever.
Dogs are way grosser than cats though, and require about eight thousand times more attention. Deep down I might be more of a cat person (mostly due to time considerations), but I have loved both equally.

dogs are always happy (except the angry killer ones gangster wannabe youth walk round with to look hard), they stick their heads out of car windows and love it, they love sleeping and rolling in pooh, they bring you tennis balls, leads etc when they want to play. There is nothing not brilliant about dogs (im talking of course about the cute domesiticated variety).

Dogs are the best. Cats are not so great.

My dog sucks. It is the stupidest thing in the world. I could stand right next to it, while it is looking at me, knock on anything and she'll start barking. Just today she couldn't get through the dog door because there was a piece of paper on the ground in front of it.

I had a cat named Dina, like the one in Alice in Wonderland, but we gave it to my grandma (I begged my parents not to), and it ran away from her the next day. :( :(

i must add that these are quite different animals,especially because of their different "attitudes",and both dogs and cats have their qualities,but cats have that "misterious" background/fascination that amazes me.now,if you ask me if a dog is a better companion.my answer could change...

Cats are more intellectually sharp than dogs even at their ridiculous best.I do love dogs too but they are harder work.

If you blow in a dogs face it goes mad, but when you take him on a car ride he sticks his head straight out the window.
