Condiments.

What's your favourite condiment?

Hip Priest 09.30.2006 06:32 AM

Is it worth waiting for a poll to appear, or should I answer now?

Pookie 09.30.2006 06:35 AM

Poll is here. By the way:

condiment: seasoning or relish to add to food at table.

Not to be confused with sauces, and mayonnaise isn't a condiment.

Hip Priest 09.30.2006 06:36 AM

Ooh. That depends on whom you ask. But I agree with you.

What about chutney? Where would you class that?

Pookie 09.30.2006 06:42 AM

I'm reliably informed that mayo is a salad additive!

Chutney is a sauce?

Hip Priest 09.30.2006 06:44 AM

Is it? Is it really a sauce?. There are some sauces on the list. I'm intrigued, because if chutneys are condiments then I'm voting for mango and ginger chutney. If not then I'll go for coarse-ground black pepper. It's terribly important, you see.

Pookie 09.30.2006 06:53 AM

It's certainly a complicated business, as condiments and sauces are usually lumped together.

And I'm reliably informed that chutney is not a sauce but a category of its own.

So we have condiments, sauces and chutney.

Hip Priest 09.30.2006 06:54 AM

Wow. So a seperate chutney poll would be a valid move. Mmmm.

OK then. I say coarse-ground black pepper is the finest condiment available under the current guidelines.

Glice 09.30.2006 07:42 AM

Now, forgive my ignorance, but if Chutney is Chutney, is Jam still Jam, or is Jam a type of Chutney?

I voted for mint, although vinegar and pepper are honourable runners-up.

fishmonkey 09.30.2006 08:05 AM

i like chutney, never really thouight of it as a jam though, love the usual, salt pepper ect

jon boy 09.30.2006 09:09 AM

i wouldnt class salt and pepper as a condiment though. they are just basics that go with all meals. i do like them all to be honest, but recently i have been eating a lot of hp fruit sauce.

Royal jelly is a type of bee secretion that aids in the development of immature or young bees.

jon boy 09.30.2006 09:46 AM

so its not marmalade without the bits then? why dont people call marmalade orange jam?

Iain 09.30.2006 09:49 AM

I voted for mustard. I was surprised that it got a lot of votes. Any type of mustard is good. It's nice to have variety. Not really sure what American mustard is all about but it's ok. There's nothing like the the rush through the sinuses that a good English mustard gives you when you put a little bit too much on your sandwich.

jon boy 09.30.2006 09:53 AM

too much mustard gets up yor nose huh.

i like the really strog kinds of mustard and the whole grain stuff. is this like fight club where his house is full of condiments but no actual food?

Strictly speaking you could call marmalade orange jam. All marmalade is, is jam made with citrus fruit.

Originally, the Portuguese made marmalade from quince - the Portuguese word "marmelada" refers to "quince jam."

atari 2600 09.30.2006 10:00 AM

...various spicy mustards

sauces: hot sauces, salsas and steak sauces...

salad dressings: creamy italian mixed with red wine vinaigrette, creamy balsamic

I like the feeling in my nose when I eat too much mustard. It's better than huffing solvents.

jon boy 09.30.2006 10:04 AM

its a strange sensation. not unlike water going up it in the bath.

DemonBox 09.30.2006 11:22 AM

Salt & Pepper. Heinz Tomato Ketchup<3

krastian 10.01.2006 12:52 AM

Hot Sauce on everything.

Jaerlost 10.01.2006 01:11 AM

yes i do! and proud.

youthoftomorrow 10.01.2006 04:40 AM

ketchup is basically the ultimate condiment.

youthoftomorrow 10.01.2006 04:41 AM

and since when is cranberry sauce a condiment? i always eat it on its own.

Danny Himself 10.01.2006 05:39 AM

You missed out Tabasco sauce and of course, the extra icing you can get at Cinnabon.

Indeed, it is beaten only by 'ring'.

I know I'm being pedantic, but mayo isn't a condiment, and nor is bbq sauce, or ranch dressing.

I like a lot of pepper on my scrambled eggs, and they have to be on toasted muffins. I'm starting to feel really hungry now.

Trasher02 10.01.2006 12:16 PM

MAYONAISE

(yes, we do drown our BELGIAN fries in it)

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 10.01.2006 12:21 PM

ketchup and A1 steak sauce. I've also got this really good seasoning.

Pookie 10.01.2006 12:25 PM

Sauces aren't condiments and nor is mayonnaise.

Look, SOMEBODY'S got to be boss of the thread.

Pookie 10.01.2006 12:29 PM

You say tomato...

Did you get your pumpkins Kegmama. I was very jealous of your weekend plans.

jon boy 10.01.2006 01:01 PM

is that an open invitation to all?
