i got a laptop for christmas...

...and I turned it on last night and the screen looked something like this:

Didn't drop it, sit on it or knock it at all.

Even worse the store where my parents bought me it from says the screen isn't covered by the warranty and I'd have to send away for repairs (costing £130)

Then she said that it's considered accidental damage and I must have done something to it but I didn't. Fuck you Miss, the product is faulty I did jackshit.

So pissed off, I'm back to this really old desktop. I gotta get this laptop fixed though cause I moved everything over so all of my recordings, writings (plus 400gb of music and movies) are sitting on it.

Keeping It Simple 12.28.2011 11:35 AM

My sympathies over your laptop.

I've become aware over the past several years that some stores in the UK have adopted a policy of being complete cunts in regards to returns, with staff giving off an air of arrogant contempt towards the rights of consumers under the Sales of Goods Act.

A friend told me he bought a videogame from Game that he discovered was scratched on opening when he got it back home. His console was unable to read the disc due to the scratches and he naturally took it back to be replaced, failing that, refunded, only for the staff in Game to blame him for the scratches, refusing point blank to replace the game or refund him!

It's got to the point where it's best for the consumer to check the product out first before buying it to ensure they're not going to be scammed by the store.

Wow, that sucks horsetwat dude..

floatingslowly 12.28.2011 11:44 AM

How did you move gigs of shit onto it without turning it on?

Assuming it was on, why the fuck would you load everything on to a rig with a broken lcd?

Lulsz

Derek 12.28.2011 12:50 PM

What? I moved everything onto it then the LCD fucked up. I used it for 2 days.

I think it worked up till today. Christmas was 3 days ago.

nicfit 12.28.2011 12:53 PM

yeah yeah I type slowly.

floatingslowly 12.28.2011 01:29 PM

You sat on it, didn't you?

There's no need to lie to us.

floatingslowly 12.28.2011 01:40 PM

Seriously though, that lcd was damaged by impact. Maybe after a long night of interwebbing, you slammed the lid in a rage. Maybe yr mum almost got caught looking at pron.

Either way, you're going to have a hard time proving you didn't cause that due to neglect.

Me? I'm going with the RAGE theory.

Shame on you.

So far the most sensible answer here.

anyways....good luck Chuck.

EVOLghost 12.28.2011 02:21 PM

If it's going to cost you 130 GBP, you should just get a sweet monitor and hook 'em up.

floatingslowly 12.28.2011 02:44 PM

You must have done something to it.

noisereductions 12.28.2011 02:47 PM

how did you do that to the screen derek?

EVOLghost 12.28.2011 02:49 PM

^LOL

Dr. Eugene Felikson 12.28.2011 02:49 PM

too much hentai

Derek 12.28.2011 05:43 PM

I didn't do anything to it. No lies.

Derek 12.28.2011 06:13 PM

And I connected the monitor to the laptop but nothing happened. Looked up some stuff and apparently I have to enter commands on the laptop but I can't since I can't see the screen?

Pookie 12.28.2011 06:26 PM

Did you drop it?

Derek 12.28.2011 06:27 PM

No.

Pookie 12.28.2011 06:28 PM

Did you drop something onto it?

Pookie 12.28.2011 06:30 PM

Did you accidentally step on it or sit on it?

_slavo_ 12.28.2011 06:31 PM

Did you pour a drop of liquid onto it?

Pookie 12.28.2011 06:32 PM

Maybe you had it perched precariously on the edge of your bed and you moved for some reason (eg to scratch your ear) and it toppled onto the laminate flooring of your parent's attic room?

Pookie 12.28.2011 06:35 PM

Did you knock the screen with a heavyish object such as a hardback book or an LP box set?

Derek 12.28.2011 06:56 PM

Tried that. No workie. Will give it another shot tomorrow.

how'd teh screen get like that?

Derek 12.28.2011 07:14 PM

I picked it up, turned it on and it was like that.

I should mention that there are no visible CRACKS but it's just a mesh of pixels.

floatingslowly 12.28.2011 07:34 PM

does it have an hdmi output? if so, use your tv.

also: find a big enough backpack to hold your tv for extra convenience!!!

floatingslowly 12.28.2011 07:42 PM

post pix or it didn't happen. ps try another monitor it might be yr gfx crd or equiv? yo.

Derek 12.28.2011 08:20 PM

My TV can't handle anything like that but my sister's can so I'll try that tomorrow.

EVOLghost 12.28.2011 08:40 PM

Play some Final Fantasy.

noisereductions 12.28.2011 09:18 PM

alright so you didn't do anything to break it. I get that. But why are there cracks in the screen?

^^^ this message was brought to you by the lil lady.

although that pic you posted clearly looks like trauma to the crystal matrix, as she (I) mentioned, bad gfx cards can shit out dead pixels.

if you are having trouble connecting to another monitor, that is a distinct possibility (and likely covered under warranteeeeheeeheeee).

LifeDistortion 12.28.2011 09:59 PM

My theory, gremlins got to it. you know how they love Christmas time.

I think it fell off his bed when he went to scratch his ear.

pokkeherrie 12.29.2011 02:44 AM

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Genteel Death 12.29.2011 02:56 AM

Sell it to an art gallery as a cubist nightmare.

Best suggestion so far.

nicfit 12.29.2011 10:35 AM

boycott

SYRFox 12.29.2011 10:48 AM

My mom's previous computer ended up with its screen looking almost exactly like this; this was due to her leaving earbuds against the screen which somehow blew up liquid crystals. it may be due to something like this?
