Best gigs of 2011 that you saw
|
Sightings
Bill Orcutt Gnod Bit of a let down: Pink Reason Psychedelic Horseshit |
SY/Wild Flag/Kurt Vile. Possibly SY's last American gig/last non-festival gig, etc.
Erase Errata/Talk Normal. Their first East Coast gig in four years. Saw Wild Flag four times, total. Lee Ranaldo Band's first two gigs of ever. Quite tremendous. Patrick and I saw way more shows in preceding years than in 2011, for a variety of reasons. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers in stockholm.
|
Blonde Redhead and Melt Banana. 'twas the most fun I've had.

kode9 djing at dour festival was by far the best thing i've seen all year. by far. and that's saying a lot considering i've seen great live bands such as mogwai, godspeed you black emperor, battles, chokebore, atari teenage riot, duchess says, public enemy, etc, this year. kode9 was close to perfection.

Chokebore reformed?! |
Fucking hell. I think I broke my own record for number of gigs I went to this year. Averaged at 3 a week. Erasure/ Sophie-Ellis Bextor were amazing, The Fall won over all. I think that in this moment right now Hobo Sonn was the best local gig, though Deepkiss 720 came close. Supernormal was good, but mostly because I played for a very long time indeed.

i only saw them once, but they were on a bill that was unfairly weighted against them (Bailter Space, Cosmic Psychos). i've seen a fair amount of reunited bands that have great live shows (in fact, more good than not). polvo stooges (both w/ Rock Action and Williamson) mission of burma thinking fellers union local 282 come gbv scratch acid jesus lizard sleep pavement scientists dinosaur jr PiL abunai! the only ones i can think of that gave ok/meh performances: pixies slint my bloody valentine chapterhouse |

Not necessarily but I see you also were caught up in that failed Sly and Robbie tour from 2008.. it happened to me in 2005 and 2009 as well.. I think he just has a bad agent and plays shows with bad promoters who don't understand the complexities of making travel arrangements for international artists yo With reggae shows ALWAYS know the promoter and if it is not somebody legit and consistent don't bother, there are sure to be cancellations. |

Being utterly awesome. She still puts out the odd tune, and supported Erasure this year. It was one of those shows where you go 'oh yeah, I know fucking loads of her songs'. Really good band behind her as well. |
I'm drawing a blank. I didn't see too many bands. 2010 was a more active year in terms of show-going.
The Men, Swans (underwhelming), Wire, PJ Harvey, Shellac... a lot of local dancehall/soundsystem parties in Crown Heights. |

the tour wasn't failed, horace andy was the only person who wasn't there i looked it up and i guess it was 2007, and it's worth noting i don't live in the USA(i think he played the united states dates but not 100% sure) |
Quote:
I meant the Horace Andy part of the tour failed as Sly and Robbie most definitely showed up and brought it :) |
Quote:
they only reformed for the Matador 21 thing...did a warm-up show in Boston a few days before, did Vegas, and then did two more shows this Spring...one in NYC and one in Cambridge the night before as a warmup. i saw 3 of the 4. all utterly awesome. |
saw basically nothing embarassed to say. just drink in bars and clubs. saw kurt vile, that was pretty great.
|
Nokie Edwards
El Supernaut Both were very very great! |

that was really wonderful. took some time before it got to me, but I loved it. together with Total Control, they were the surprises of that ATP. |
Sonic Youth
Spectrum TFUL 282 The Stooges Hot Snakes Nisennenmondai Pharoah Sanders Khaira Arby Sebadoh |
Haven't seen much this year.
Was thrilled by the Hives; I hope their next album eventually gets released so they can tour... No TFUL282; please, don't mention them, it hurts, I'm in France... |
Mark Mcguire, just for the circumstances surrounding the day and the fact the music and atmosphere was the perfect conclusion to that day.
|
