Should musicians move while they play music?

I reckon the less is better but then that's just me.

HaydenAsche 10.10.2006 02:05 PM

Have you seen At The Drive-in? They move flawlessly.

Along with Norma Jean and mewithoutYou.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 10.10.2006 02:11 PM

yes

TheDom 10.10.2006 02:12 PM

No, they should sit down and bore the fuck out of the audience.

Пятхъдесят Шест 10.10.2006 02:13 PM

What if they move like G P-O?

I should post the video via You Tube, but I won't, because I don't feel like it!

!@#$%! 10.10.2006 02:16 PM

ha ha ha, a funny thread

should they? could they? would they?

porkmarras 10.10.2006 02:17 PM

No,not even thinking of breathing.

Пятхъдесят Шест 10.10.2006 02:17 PM

They should not, could not, would not with a duck.

porkmarras 10.10.2006 02:18 PM

There are excepetions but they all live in my mind and not yours.

Пятхъдесят Шест 10.10.2006 02:19 PM

We can fix that.

Open your mind! Lets see the goods.

atari 2600 10.10.2006 02:19 PM

Yes, unless they are The Velvet Underground.

wax 10.10.2006 02:22 PM

if the music is really really good, ill excuse them for being boring cunts on stage.

touch me i'm sick 10.10.2006 02:25 PM

only if they're not stupid and cliched about it.

cliched meaning:
- jumping unesecarily on stage

sonicl 10.10.2006 02:33 PM

Can you imagine a stationary Julian Cope? Or Slash from G'n'R?

porkmarras 10.10.2006 02:35 PM

Don't care much for Slash but Cope is an exception

Trasher02 10.10.2006 02:36 PM

Moving: Yes.
Jumping: No.

Bands who stand still all of the time are fucking boring.

Rob Instigator 10.10.2006 02:37 PM

c is great but whe the music is supposed to be energetic and cathartic (a la Pixies) and they stand around bored (a la reunion pixies) then it sucks shit.

the most kinetic band I ever got to see was archers of loaf.

I didn't find the Pixies reunion boring. The Pixies were never big movers. All of the energy is in Frank Black's face.

Glice 10.10.2006 03:21 PM

I think a band should concentrate on not being shite before they think about moving. However, if they forgoe the not being shite stage, then bouncing around like lunatics is always fun - anyone see Ash/ Symposium/ Idlewild in the early days? A handful of ok pop songs between them, fantastic bouncing and making knobs of themselves.

Also, hardcore bands should always move. Raised Fist = the ideal.

k-krack 10.10.2006 03:30 PM

Some bands should, others shouldn't. For example, pop-punk bands should stay still cos they look like total twats. Bands like GY!BE I will let off for sitting down to play, cos the music is incredible. Like Hayden said, ATDI were untouchable. And hardcore bands should remain constantl moving.

(With the Pixies reunion, I agree with Julian, did you take a peek at his face when he was screaming!? Apparently not! That passionate motherfucker!)

soapbars 10.10.2006 03:49 PM

bands should above all else be authentic, if that involves moving or not,

it can all depend on the type of band and music, but when watching live bands i want honesty,

i wouldnt want to see a band that had a forced stage presence, thatd be awful,

Cantankerous 10.10.2006 03:50 PM

Well considering that they have to play they can't really not move.

I don't really care one way or the other.

go tell kraftwerk

Cantankerous 10.10.2006 03:53 PM

Kraftwerk can die.

Savage Clone 10.10.2006 03:54 PM

The Kraftwerk percussion guys used to move. Kraftwerk used to move a lot in general back in the old days.

nicfit 10.10.2006 03:55 PM

yeah, that's a quite common ability.we all can die.i'm off to bed, hope i'll still be alive tomorrow morning.

i was replying to Catankkkk----and yes SC,maybe they used to move back in the days...but even stephen hawkings used to.

edit: i added "maybe" because actually i've never seen an old kraftwerk concert.

porkmarras 10.10.2006 03:55 PM

Not really?Who remembers Kraftwerk as a gesticulating band?

Cantankerous 10.10.2006 03:57 PM

You have to physically MOVE in order to play an instrument. Sorry if you didn't get that.

porkmarras 10.10.2006 03:59 PM

Here's Miss complex creature.

Cantankerous 10.10.2006 04:00 PM

Nevermind Miss Complex Creature, Here's English Twat!

Savage Clone 10.10.2006 04:02 PM

I have seen footage of old Kraftwerk shows where they are most definitely movign around and even interacting with the audience to a degree.

!@#$%! 10.10.2006 04:03 PM

i thought the whole controversy of moving musicians had been sorted out during the times of elvis

but anyway.

this thread strangely reminds me of that episode of futurama that features the preserved heads of u.s. ex-presidents. we could do that to musicians and they could play their instruments via wires in their brains maybe.

porkmarras 10.10.2006 04:03 PM

Still, they are percieved as a very static band.

actually i got that,don't worry.

static-harmony 10.10.2006 04:05 PM

They should move unless the person is Kurt Cobain.

Cantankerous 10.10.2006 04:06 PM

In case you didn't get the memo, he's a pile of ashes.

static-harmony 10.10.2006 04:07 PM

I know I was talking to his performance every time he would tour.

Cantankerous 10.10.2006 04:07 PM

You were talking to his performance? Every time he would tour?

static-harmony 10.10.2006 04:08 PM

I meant: I was talking about his performance everytime he would tour.

If I could rep you I would.
