Do people who always use 'LOL' really laughing out loud when they indicate so?

I see people use it in the most unusual places where it doesn't even make sense.

Imagine if everybody who wrote LOL really did laugh out loud when they wrote that. They'd look nuts. Typing away, then OH, HA, HA, HA, HA.

LOL should be changed to something like CMTM (chuckling mildly to myself) or TOASOMF (trace of a smile on my face) or SATIMNBEBMFE (somewhat amused though it may not be evident by my facial expression).

'lol' actually means something in dutch. and the fun thing is that it means fun.

I was talking with a freind on aim the other day. and out of nowhere he says "lol" and i said "what's that all about?" he said "i dont know.. to lighten the mood i guess"

I use it lot's, but that's just 'cuz it's become basically a way of saying something is relatively amusing, except not very... (easier than saying "relatively amusing, except not very...") Most of the time I say "hahahah" or "ahahaha" and even sometimes "hahahaaha". Sometimes, I make an error in finger placement, and get a "jajajajajaja". Rarely, though.

'jaja' is the sound in spanish for 'haha'.

so really, you're not making errors - you're just being bilingual.
