What's your favourite Flaming Lips album?

Hear it is
Oh My Gawd!!!
Telepathic Surgery
In A Preist Driven Ambulance
Hit To Death in the Future Head
Transmissions from the Satelite Heart
Clouds Taste Metalic
Zaireeka
The Soft Bulletin
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
At War With The Mystics

Ive just finished reading Staring at Sound which is the book about the flaming lips, and it surprised me how much they are alike sonic youth. I think the flaming lips sound has changed and evolved alot more then sonic youth's has though. But Sonic Youth have put out Far Far more albums.
I think my favourite Flaming Lips album would have to be 'Clouds Taste Metalic' its so sweet and special, like the musical equilivant of a lollypop with gum in the middle.
So what's your favoutite Flaming Lips Album???

(Zaireeka is not included in the poll because you can only have 10, and because its so different to the others)

The Soft Bulletin.

sun city girl 10.19.2006 08:18 AM

i don't get soft bulletin... i think it's really overrated. but yoshimi is great!

however my biggest fave is transmissions from the satellite heart, what a masterpiece!

Alex's Trip 10.19.2006 08:21 AM

Toss up between Clouds and Bulletin (Transmissions at a close third). I went with The Soft Bulletin.

sonic sphere 10.19.2006 08:27 AM

other

therealglenstyler 10.19.2006 08:32 AM

transmissions is amazing but I had to go with soft bulletin

sun city girl 10.19.2006 08:37 AM

stop voting for soft bulletin... or please tell me why you like it? i don't get it, it's boring...

screamingskull 10.19.2006 09:34 AM

the soft bulletin is good but not fantastic, i much prefer the older stuff.

jon boy 10.19.2006 09:36 AM

i did like clouds taste metalic.

Trasher02 10.19.2006 09:42 AM

I'm not really a flamings lips fan, can't seem to get into them.

krastian 10.19.2006 11:53 PM

I'd say Transmissions because it is the album that got me into them. Plus it has Pilot Can at the Queer of God.

Cantankerous 10.19.2006 11:58 PM

and she don't use jelly.

Cantankerous 10.19.2006 11:59 PM

i personally have started blowing my nose with all the backissues of melody maker i've got lying around.

youthoftomorrow 10.20.2006 12:50 AM

Transmissions is the only album of their's that i can listen to without skipping through like half the songs. so i went with that.

sun city girl 10.20.2006 04:33 AM

I love Transmissions to death.
Zaaireeka is epic. It just sucks becuse it requires alot of effort to get te full effect

screamingskull 10.20.2006 09:08 AM

yeah i agree, i only have 3 stereos so i cant listen to it properly.

Alex's Trip 10.20.2006 09:27 AM

I made my own Zaireeka mix. It isn't anything special, but I have them all on 1 disc.

screamingskull 10.20.2006 09:30 AM

how'd you do that?

Alex's Trip 10.20.2006 09:32 AM

I ripped all 4 discs, and mixed them together by importing each track into Cubase (any recording software would work).

speaking as someone who has done the all 4 stereo system idea, i got to say theres no way you'd get the same effect mixing it all down to one. Its so much better/interesting with 4 because different parts come in thru different stereos at different times creating this great flow and organic feeling. At times you can hear two drumbeats. Youre just cheating yourself if u think one will suffice.

Back to the poll, I like clouds taste metallic best, but transmissions and in a priest driven ambulance both tie in at a very close second in my opinion. I really love those records the best.

Silent Dan Speaks 10.20.2006 02:24 PM

Yoshimi is the best in my book.

hey alex 10.20.2006 09:43 PM

I went with priest driven ambulance. IT fuckin rules. With probably clouds and bulletine coming in behind it.

NickTGH 10.21.2006 01:30 AM

Zaireaka is the fucking best. Hearing it through eight speakers in four different areas of your room is an audio orgasm. However, it's not on the list, so Priest Driven Ambulance would be my second choice.

I've done it too. But I wanted something to be able to listen to on my ipod as well. When I get the chance (which isn't often) I use all 4 discs at once, but if I feel like listening to it on the bus, I have my own version. And, on the flip side, I got to personalize my own Zaireeka. I got to mix it. I didn't know how to do much, but I worked with it. I panned things left and right, and to the front and back. That in itself was a lot of fun.

hey alex 10.21.2006 11:53 AM

I want to do the zaireeka on shrooms. That'd be holy.

Also, glad to see someone voted oh my gawd! and no one voted mystics... for that album is helplessly bland and reliant on 'krazy noises!'
