The Goslings

Their album Grandeur of Hair came in the mail yesterday. They are definitely the best thing I've heard in long time.
Sunn0))) meets MBV meets Bardo Pond and shit... i.e. extremely profound sounding music.

Are the other albums of theirs equivalent to this one?

Everyneurotic 10.28.2006 10:01 AM

between the dead is mind fucking blowing, going from harsh noise, to drone to blissful feeback. spaceheater/perfect interior is much more dronier.

yes, they are amazing!

voided 10.28.2006 05:28 PM

totally glad people have checked that disc out.. it's one of my favorite releases to date that I've done with the label and i've gotten lots of good feedback on the project..

check out the CDR Goslings collab with Roxanne Jean Polise it's hopelessly out of print but i'd imagine some downloadable file is creeping around out there.. I'll be re-issuing this as a double CD in early spring along with a disc worth of new shit... should be really sweet.

atsonicpark 10.29.2006 07:51 AM

sweet, a roxanne jean polise mention on the sy board...... steev!!

but yeah, my fav goslings is spaceheater.

Between the Dead is the other album most like Grandeur of Hair, and Space Heater/Perfect Interior is equally awesome, but less song-oriented and more atmospheric. I'm still yet to hear that collaboration with Roxanne Jean Polise.

Great band, the Goslings!

Phlegmscope 10.30.2006 03:57 PM

I'm obliged to thank dj rick for playing them on artforspastics some months back. If it wasn't for that particular show, I would've never found this band.
thangyous...

DJ Rick 10.30.2006 04:18 PM

Glad to know I could be of some help....especially for a band that I seriously count as one of my absolute faves.

Everyneurotic 10.31.2006 01:10 PM

i listened to their collab with roxanne jean polise yesterday and my god if it's amazing!! it's like someone 3-ded early goslings into something else.

porkmarras 01.20.2007 08:32 PM

I'm totally and massively into them and their erratic ways at the moment.Great band.

val-holla-ing 01.20.2007 11:48 PM

yeah, grandeur of hair is pretty good stuff.

pokkeherrie 01.21.2007 08:57 PM

I've only heard Between the Dead, but that's pretty great.... I need to listen to some more.

atsonicpark 01.21.2007 09:02 PM

They're nice too.

The 97th Hammer 01.21.2007 11:41 PM

Great band. Their music is the perfect thing for when I want to make the house shake, but want something more uplifting than Sunn O)) or Black Boned Angel.

Gulasch Noir 03.16.2007 11:19 AM

yeah, they are great ...

DJ Rick 03.16.2007 05:16 PM

They've got a split 7" with Yellow Swans which is available to subcribers of the Not Not Fun "Bored Fortress" Singles Club series. The rest of the lineup is totally worthwhile, too.

Check it...
http://www.notnotfun.com/

It probably won't be available for very long now that the first few splits have begun shipping.

pokkeherrie 02.19.2008 08:10 PM

Their side on that split 7" with Yellow Swans was excellent too.

Anyway, has anyone already heard the new one, Occasion?

batreleaser 02.19.2008 08:58 PM

i love this band. just got into them.

ordered it, hasn't arrived yet.

batreleaser 02.19.2008 09:29 PM

wha??? i never knew they did a split with yellow swans, that sounds like itd be fuckin awesome

batreleaser 02.20.2008 01:16 AM

i wish this thread lasted longer

Everyneurotic 02.20.2008 01:18 AM

i'm going to put their split with yellow swans tomorrow because i frenkly don't remember any of it (i listened through a worn needle and a shitty wired turntable).

batreleaser 02.20.2008 01:30 AM

cool cool

atsonicpark 02.20.2008 01:43 AM

I've mentioned this before but not on this thread, but my band Robe. is slated to do a split with them in the distant future.. we finished our track a while back but they have a lot of releases lined up and they work kinda slowly because, from what I understand, they don't have a computer at their house and have to check internet stuffs online and whatnot. I'm pretty certain they are doing another split with warmth (artist formely known as roxanne jean polise) in the future as well.

They are very nice people, if you get a chance you should email them on myspace and tell 'em you dig 'em, because they always respond or at least appreciate the compliments.

i checked out youre robe stuff, and in all honesty i think its your best band. i definitley dug some of the scissor shock, but this slow, droning, ambient, shit seems to be your strong suit.

Everyneurotic 02.20.2008 11:21 AM

robe. - glacial.

coming soon through kiddieriot records...

batreleaser 02.20.2008 01:10 PM

kiddieriot has so many rockin bands, one of the more more far out labels in a while

DJ Rick 02.20.2008 03:10 PM

I have heard Occasion, and it is like a progression from Grandeur of Hair into some grislier doom abstractions. Not totally abstract, but certainly further away from the stuff like Space Heater that drew a few MBV references. If you liked the last one, you'll probably love this one. All these albums are likely to grow on you even more with repeated listening.

Got a new track from it in the latest AFS...

batreleaser, thanks, glad you like robe.

I guess the point of having two bands is to explore two completely different avenues of sound.. yeah.

i think thats the general idea. ive never been in more than one band once. and ive only been in four alltogether. but all of them were indeed a little different. first one combshot, which was with my highschool buddies and a really really lousy half jap/fall/beat happening lowfi garbage, none of us could play AT ALL and we couldnt pull it off nearly as good as jad fair. next one was blind shiatzu with four college which was a electro infused grindcore and we actually got pretty decent till half the band became junkies and bailed. the next was special blend no. 27 which was just one of the aforementioned college buddies, and the idea for that one was pfunk reimagined as a loud as fuck harsh noise band, and the idea failled miserably and my and the friend arent on speaking terms cause i broke his noise one night while i was drunk and beligerent. anyways, my current band, harrychristiansen, is with my long time musical partner in crime, my brother, and two other kids, and were tring to go totally blend together all sorts of our favorite music; free jazz, grindcore, hip hop samples and scratches, powerviolence, no wave, and lots and lots of funkiness, im on vocals, guitar, and trumpet. i have high hopes for this one but the only problem the other three members are all in boston so untill im home for summer the band is in hold. luckily im only 20, and im confident ill get my music going by the time im 25-26.

fugazifan 05.23.2008 09:28 AM

goslings are one of my favorite activ ebands
i have granduer of hair between the dead and full hunters moon. alll three are amazing

Everyneurotic 05.23.2008 10:09 AM

occasion is fantastic, but i have to say i haven't listened to it as much as i have wanted to.

PAULYBEE2656 05.23.2008 05:20 PM

agreed with the sentiment of robe. but yknow, i still hanker for the ruinhorse spastication souund.....

atsonicpark 05.23.2008 05:47 PM

haha.

I miss ruinhorse too.

www.myspace.com/ruinhorse

fugazifan 05.23.2008 07:52 PM

wow i just listened to ruinhorse-excellent shit adam. very cool.
any chance you can send some songs my way?
and does robe have a myspace?

atsonicpark 05.23.2008 08:06 PM

yeah, it's in my signature :)

www.myspace.com/robedot

uhhh i sent pauly the ruinhorse discography a while back, you can bug him about it haha. It's really complicated, I guess I should explain this to people. I stay equal time at my grandpa's and my house and also lately it's been a quarter of time, because I'm at my girlfriend's and my friend/bandmate Booe's house. I have a bunch of shit spread across all those houses, so it takes me different days to do different things. For example, my ruinhorse discography is at my house, so I won't be at my house for a few days, then I won't be back here for more days. Hahaha.

So, if you want it, ask pauly ;)

Or..

Add Robe Flesh on soulseek if you have soulseek, because he has everything I've ever done.

atsonicpark 05.23.2008 08:08 PM

OH, also wanted to mention that at 3 of the houses I just mentioned (all except my girflriend's) I have separate computers in each location, each with recording software and Fruity Loops, vst plugins, and shit, but different mp3 files and under different soulseek accounts, haha.

It's interesting, because at my grandpa's, I have all my movies and all my data discs.. at my house, I have all my cd's and video games.. at Booe's house I have all my instruments, which takes up two rooms in his house... and he lives in this weird, like mansion that's on 8 acres of land.. and we always record there..

One day I hope to combine everything into one place...

I'm going to pick this one up for sure. From the bits I've heard on their myspace they're like a more blown-out, psychedelic and fucked up psychedelic horseshit or times new viking. Also looking forward to getting the Eat Skull record.
