sabbath

sabbath.... awesome band. discuss

Everyneurotic 11.03.2006 11:31 AM

there's no need for discussion.

Everyneurotic 11.03.2006 11:42 AM

ozzy era sabbath is the best, dio era is very good but different, born again (with ian gillan) is amazing, the rest are certainly no good.

i'm actually curious about how many people have really heard dio-era sabbath, let alone other dudes-eras.

Everyneurotic 11.03.2006 11:57 AM

i know someone else like that, "dio is a real singer, ozzy was just a comedian making an ass of himself"

youthoftomorrow 11.03.2006 12:42 PM

i've got the first three Sab albums. Paranoid is my favorite, with Master of Reality a close second. i've been meaning to get Vol. 4. i almost got it on vinyl a few months ago in Seattle, but i bought a Mission of Burma CD instead.

"Hand of Doom" is one of the finest rock songs ever recorded.

king_buzzo 11.03.2006 01:41 PM

i hate dio! he ruined the whole point of sabbath and made it metal!
i have all the albums with ozzy and the best for me are
master or reallity
paranoid
black sabbath

in order. not so keen on vol 4 and sabbath bloody sabbath though

GeneticKiss 11.03.2006 02:30 PM

Sabbath invented drum 'n' bass with "Hand Of Doom"...

I'm surprised no rappers have sampled it yet...or maybe someone has, and I just don't know about it...

I haven't heard much non-Ozzy Sabbath, but I'm really not big on Dio, so I doubt if I'll ever try any of it...

king_buzzo 11.03.2006 02:43 PM

yeah, i hate dios voice and i only listened to a couple of songs

noisemachine 11.03.2006 02:56 PM

I only have Paranoid but have always been interested in checking out more of their output.

EMMAh 11.03.2006 03:16 PM

The only song I really like by them is War Pigs. But that's because my brother listens to them non-stop and it's annoying.

probably not too many, i'm pretty sure most would go for ozzy.

the guy who stits next to me at work prefers dio-sabbath over ozzy-sabbath. he's the only person i've ever met who like it like that.

dude, you can stop wondering, we've all heard, dio, and well, lets face it, dio fucking sucks! I still can't believe that Tony thinks that Dio is the best vocalist of ALL TIME! fuck dio!

sabbath, shit, those motherfuckers were the first to cause distortion on your speakers. not to mention that sweet leaf is perhaps the greatest song ever dedicated to herb smoke....

if you haven't ever really LISTENED to sabbath, that is to say, you do no know the words to at least half of the 1970-1979 tunes, then you dont know sabbath, and you NEED too, cuz as its been said, sabbath is the shit, perhaps the greatest band ever.

And fuck that, they should have brought back Geezer, but apparantly they felt they could do with out. It isn't sabbath without Geezer, Tony, Ozzy, and Bill man, seriously.

youthoftomorrow 11.03.2006 10:50 PM

so, i went to my local record store tonight and bought Vol. 4 (as well as ordered SY's Bad Moon Rising). just started listening to it.

Norma J 11.03.2006 10:59 PM

Early Sabbath is great. I don't care to hear any Sabbath without Ozzy. Not that I'm overally a huge fan of Ozzie, but Paranoid, Master of Reality, and the self titled album etc etc is Sabbath to me.

Inhuman 11.03.2006 11:14 PM

Don't know much about them, but Faeries Wear Boots = Fucking Incredible

Everyneurotic 11.05.2006 09:39 PM

sabbath with dio (and ian gillan for that matter) are just different and not that quite unique as the first 6 sabbath albums, i can certainly picture the band with dio at the band's a&r office while the guy plays them all the priest, maiden, diamond head, ufo, etc. albums from the era telling them "you're sabbath! you can't be left behind!" but that doesn't mean they were bad, just not that groundbreaking or defining as they were in their prime.

by the way, rainbow fucking rules! best dio band ever.

and also, ozzy's career ended after diary of a madman; besides a few songs later on, his stuff is just not as good as his first two solo albums.

Cantankerous 11.05.2006 10:04 PM

i like them a lot, partiularly paranoid. dio can go to hell.

I was a huge Sabbath fan back in the late 70's / early 80's. Everyone couldn't believe it when Ozzy left for a solo carrier. To my ear's, the Dio Sabbath was a welcome change compared to, 'Never Say Die!' or 'Technical Ecstasy.' In my opinion, 'Sabotage' was the last great Ozzy Sabbath release......that was 31 years ago.

I can agree with you that Sabotage is the last great Ozzy/Sabbath record, but I also think it is one of the best of all. As for Dio's lyrics being deeper, I have to disagree completely.

Everyneurotic 11.07.2006 11:38 AM

geezer butler wrote the lyrics when ozzy was in the band, they tend to give him credit for it, though...sometimes ozzy ad libbed a couple of lines when a song was starting and geezer would flesh out the lyrics, sometimes geezer would do the whole thing himself.

king_buzzo 11.07.2006 11:56 AM

exactly.

anyways ozzys new album will be out in a few days i think. its not with zakk wylde so it might be interesting

krastian 11.08.2006 01:08 AM

Zakk Wylde sucks.....I love how he thinks he's the spokesperson for metal or something. People that walk around with their own band's t-shirt on and with their own band's patches on their jacket suck.

Everyneurotic 11.08.2006 01:14 AM

he wears a fucking leather vest of his own band the whole fucking time...a shirt or a patch are bad enough, but a leather vest? also, when he started black label society, he started hanging around dimebag darrell non stop so people will actually think he's as good and as cool as dime. fucking zakk sucks, i saw black label and the only good thing they had going was that they were loud as hell and that he threw his guitar into the crowd when they finished their set.

he's so much better playing acoustic guitar or with a southern rock band, but he's a lousy metal guitarist and a big fucking poseur.

krastian 11.08.2006 02:00 AM

WORD

king_buzzo 11.08.2006 03:58 AM

x2.

he sucks. his playing anoyes me cause he plays too many pinch harmonix

king_buzzo 11.09.2006 03:05 PM

my first riff on electric guitar was paranoid. TG finally tabbed the correct solo so i leart that right now. its easy

Glice 11.09.2006 03:19 PM

I know a few Dio supporters. I find the Dio fans to be the proper hardcore fans, the ones with the rare Bulgarian pressings and the like. I've heard odds and sods of Dio-era, and it doesn't appeal that much to me, but then Ozzy-era can be very patchy as well, save for the well-known ones.

Washing Machine 11.10.2006 07:24 PM

I love Ozzy era Sabbath because when Ozzy left the music started to become just straight Metal, whereas early Sabbath albums sound more musically diverse. Also Ozzy has in my opinion one of the finest most interesting voices in Metal. Ozzy solo albums are a bit of a mixed bag. His first two are brilliant. After that he wrote some brilliant songs but the albums themselves weren't consistant and he appeared to be more concerned with following trends and keeping up then making albums that stood the test of time. His last album 'Down To Earth' was quite good. Dispite the occasional cringeworthy lyric and the fact that his voice isnt in greatest shape the record was brilliant because it was Ozzy finally not giving two shits and sheadding off his 80's madman personna. It was actually a very touching record (not a word usually used to describe Ozzy)

guitarpro 11.10.2006 08:51 PM

I agree great band

dazedcola 11.13.2006 08:15 PM

dio is a fucking joke.

I never really checked out Sabbath until last year and when I heard the first 4 records i finally understood why everyone liked them so much. My favorite is a tie between the debut and Masters of Reality. I havent bothered checking out any records after the first 4, is it worth a shot?
