Wire

Pink Flag, Chairs Missing, and 154. I think along with PiL's Metal Box, well, I mean, seriously...

luxinterior 11.12.2006 03:07 AM

Yes.

evollove 11.19.2006 05:50 AM

One thing no one's ever mentioned about Wire (so I must be wrong) is how fucking FUNNY they are! They are obviously having such a good time being so weird and different, so at ease with their collective genius, that every Wire listen is an uplifting experience.

Pookie 11.19.2006 02:08 PM

Never thought they are funny to be honest. One of the best live bands I've ever seen.

And don't neglect their more recent stuff. The last album was great.

evollove 11.19.2006 04:17 PM

Yeah. No one thinks they're funny.

It's my own private source of amusement. All mine.

hey alex 11.20.2006 01:33 AM

I don;t know about funny, but definently fun-inducing

evollove 05.26.2008 04:13 PM

I would add Colin Newman's A-Z into the classic trilogy.

Also, from what I remember, the first Peel Session. Can't find the whole thing online anywhere. Hints? Also, the Peel Session had a song called "Culture Vultures." Anyone know if there's a studio version? Is it a b-side?

Holy shit I love these records.

SuperCreep 05.26.2008 04:20 PM

First three albums would all easily make my top fifty albums of all time. I fucking love this band. Might be seeing them next week too.

greedrex 05.26.2008 04:29 PM

NO
but i've never listened to Wire, really
he he
i rather read it when my hip mate lends it to me
which Wire album is THE wire album?

Guest Informant 05.26.2008 04:59 PM

I'd go with 'Chairs Missing' first. So many great guitar sounds.

SuperCreep 05.26.2008 05:11 PM

I don't think Wire has one definitive work. Their first three are really all definitive. Might as well go with Pink Flag since it's the first, then move onto Chairs Missing and 154.

greedrex 05.26.2008 05:12 PM

Will check out "Chairs missing" then and will come back with more hindsight. Thanxxxxx

atsonicpark 05.26.2008 05:42 PM

well I listed "chairs missing" in my CLASSICS album thing, because it's so dark and amazing.

but as far as my top 10 albums of all time, it'd have to be pink flag.

batreleaser 05.26.2008 07:51 PM

i cant really say, i love them all for different reasons. pink flag is simultaneously the best early album ever, as well as the blueprint for post punk. chairs missing is their best guitar album. 154 had the great electronic bleeps along with the guitats, and "i shoulda known better" is one of the best opening tracks in rock history.

Cantankerous 05.26.2008 10:28 PM

HOW MANY DEAD OR ALIVE
in 1955

I always get teary during this song, oddly. It's too perfect.

Everyneurotic 05.26.2008 10:50 PM

yes, amazing band.

for me, at first it was difficult to get into pink flag but after some listens i loved it; then listened to chairs missing and thought "what the hell is this crap?" but it was just that it was so different yet retained their sound, and then i was like "i think i love it more than pink flag" but they are so different and that's what's so great about them.

and yeah, i think they are really funny, especially pink flag, the whole album.

that is the truth.

154 is my favorite.

gualbert 05.27.2008 06:33 AM

I got a record called Document and Eyewitness , which is partially horrible ( the live songs mostly ).

Death & the Maiden 05.27.2008 06:39 AM

Yes. I only have Pink Flag, and it's really good.

ricechex 05.27.2008 11:13 AM

Yeah, Wire's great. Don't sleep on some of their 80's output either. IDEAL COPY is my favorite Wire album and shows some incredible growth musically,i think. Also, a Bell is a Cup is excellent.

atsonicpark 05.27.2008 11:26 AM

everyone needs to get behind the curtain...

PAULYBEE2656 05.27.2008 11:38 AM

i have the first 3 obviously

the ideal copy and the drill. i havent yet got anything more recent tho.

all excellent but chairs missing is a phenonemal record....

atsonicpark 05.27.2008 11:42 AM

it's all about "mercy".

PAULYBEE2656 05.27.2008 11:50 AM

and heartbeat!

uhler 05.27.2008 07:47 PM

after i get back from playing tennis i'm going to make tonight wire's first three records night and listen to all three of them in a row. then i'm going to watch a few hans richter films.

Pax Americana 05.27.2008 08:16 PM

I'm gonna say yes.
