JJ Abrams to direct next Star Wars

My nerdery is having a Wars > Trek meltdown.

O, god.

keep poppin pimples 01.24.2013 07:18 PM

star trek and wars are basically the same thing now

NWO

LifeDistortion 01.25.2013 12:04 AM

Now Abrams just needs to steal "Battlestar Galactica" away from Bryan Singer and then he can say "I own outer space bitch!"

Count Mecha 01.25.2013 01:03 AM

Don't have to worry about him taking Babylon 5 though, no one seems to care about that one, uh, except me.

tesla69 01.25.2013 09:22 AM

I don't think he could do more damage than Lucas did - but it will be dumbed down so Hollywood elites can understand it - its gonna suck but will look flashy.

Will he obsess over robot sexuality?
How will he work boobs into the plotlines?
How many times will he use alien sex as a theme?

its gonna suck

Rob Instigator 01.25.2013 09:30 AM

star wars is a kids flick anyway. how much more can he dumb it down than it already was?

The faux-spirituality was ruined by Lucas already.

The Muppets were ruined by the CGI.

watching the movies now is so boring, even the old ones....

This. If the Star Wars franchise was Lucas' baby, it should've been taken from him years ago, for abuse.

I have no doubts that it will be better than the swill Lucad has tried to push, but as a Wars proponent in many a superiority fight against Trek, I can't help but feeling as if my life is being homogenized.

Rob Instigator 01.25.2013 10:52 AM

just trying to keep the cash cow alive.

floatingslowly 01.25.2013 10:52 AM

If I were JJ, R2D2 would be played by Stephen Hawking, and the Cardassians by the Kardashians.

Make it so be with you.

!@#$%! 01.25.2013 11:05 AM

i like star trek better, always have, always will, but i haven't always liked jj abrams-- i was bored by alias, found lost unwatchable, and am glad his annoying alcatraz was cancelled. however-- i really think he did an excellent job with the star trek reboot.

im down with the kardashians as evil aliens

dale_gribble 01.25.2013 11:37 AM

hm, abrams is a hack but, as pretty much everyone has agreed upon, lucas not having control is a great thing. i'll go see the first movie for sure just to find out if it's as bad as the sequels, because maybe it will be better. as a fanboy i see it as my duty.

demonrail666 01.25.2013 11:38 AM

They should just go all out and give it to someone completely unsuitable: Abel Ferrara, Woody Allen, Lars Von Trier, Spike Lee. It'll be shit anyway so they may as well let the whole thing go down in a blaze of inappropriateness.

Rob Instigator 01.25.2013 11:50 AM

They should have Ang Lee do the star wars movies

floatingslowly 01.25.2013 11:52 AM

Stardate: a long time ago

floatingslowly 01.25.2013 11:53 AM

In commemoration of this event, I'll be crossposting my brilliant ideas onto facebook.

he did horrible with the hulk

star wars should be laid to rest but they will keep squeezing money out of it instead-- just like with every other religion (e.g. from jesus to megachurches)

!@#$%! 01.25.2013 12:14 PM

JOSS WHEDON.

now that. that would be it. YES!

demonrail666 01.25.2013 12:18 PM

Let David Simon give it The Wire treatment: uncovering layers of corruption at the heart of the Empire; having Omar become a Jedi; giving the Millenium Falcon to Bunk.

!@#$%! 01.25.2013 12:20 PM

nooo! nooo! joss whedon!!!

i mean if anyone could save star wars it would be him. i really don't think anybody else could.

omar is dead, having him come back as some fucking glowing spectrum would be shit. fucking lucas and his literallism!

Seriously. Why is something that would seem so obvious and natural, overlooked.

Fuck JJ ---> JOSS

buffy ruled, and joss is a true fan of star wars and a gifted storyteller

demonrail666 01.25.2013 12:36 PM

Of course Joss Whedon is the right answer, but of the wrong ones, I'm backing Ken Loach.

Diesel 01.25.2013 12:39 PM

Michael Winner could do it with ol' Charles Bronson and they should call it Death Wish Star.

I know. It's really my fault but anyway, please no spoilers for anything that happens after season 2. A friend already annoyed me this morning by telling me Stringer-Bell gets it.

floatingslowly 01.25.2013 12:41 PM

who???

demonrail666 01.25.2013 12:44 PM

He was dead to me after he gave Hermione 'that look' in The Chamber of Secrets.

Rob Instigator 01.25.2013 02:03 PM

so do you guys think Kubrick was killed because he exposed the elite's ritual satanic sex practices in eyes wide shut?

Michael Gambon is still alive.

LifeDistortion 01.25.2013 03:02 PM

Everyone saying Joss Whedon, I say no. Back in 2005 "Serenity" came out. A movie heavily influenced by "Star Wars". That same year "Revenge of the Sith" came out. With "Serenity" there is no reason for Whedon to direct a "Star Wars" movie when he already made a 'star wars' movie and did it better then the guy who gave us "Star Wars".

Rob Instigator 01.25.2013 03:12 PM

all that shit sucks anyway.

Ghostchase 01.25.2013 03:14 PM

So Serenity is good? I'll give it a watch.

floatingslowly 01.25.2013 03:42 PM

It's better than good. I'd suggest watching the one and only season of Firefly first, but you don't have to.

watch firefly first. firefly is better than serenity. firefly is fucking great and serenity was made to give the series an ending because it was stupidly cancelled (you can find out about all that when listening to the firefly commentary).

============

on a different subject, del toro briefly talks about passing up the chance of directing star gwars
