End Of An Era (ATP)
Who's going to which?
Part 1 (ATP & Primavera Sound): Television performing Marquee Moon (UK exclusive) Dinosaur Jr. Les Savy Fav Chelsea Light Moving (feat. Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore) múm Dinos Chapman Oneohtrix Point Never Wolf Eyes Mike Watt Hebronix Forest Swords BEAK> The Haxan Cloak Demdike Stare Eraas Part 2 (ATP & LOOP): LOOP The Pop Group 23 Skidoo Fennesz Edan (DJ set) Dirty Beaches Eaux Hookworms The KVB Thought Forms |
Probably going to go to both but if it comes down to it i'll choose the Loop one i'd imagine.
|
would love to go to both but it'll just be the Loop one in all likelihood.
Why are these the last ATP festivals in the UK? :( |
They went bankrupt last year and had to downsize to camber sands from butlins. So I suspect it might be for financial reasons.
|
"Somewhat melancholy news reaches the Quietus offices this morning in the form of an email informing us that long-running festival hosts All Tomorrow's Parties are "calling time" on the holiday camp editions of the festival. The aim, they say, is to "allow ATP to focus on their growing schedule of city and international based events in 2014 and beyond."
In other words: they loose money on the holiday camp festivals, while the Ill be your mirror events are financially more secure. I will probably go to the first one, since a lot of my friend will prefer that one. Might go to the second one as well. |
I'll be going to the first one. Anyone want to share with me and cake?

I would, Stu. But I'll most likely I'll be moving to Vietnam in following 2 months' time (I got a job offer there), so all other plans are debatable. |
tbh I've been expecting this since they started doing four festivals/year and with less and less interesting line ups as time goes by. If you compare The Tortoise, Autechre or SY ATPs of 10 years ago to the sort of thing they have now (e.g. Archers of Loaf reunion, constant recycling of 80s/90s bands etc) at a much larger (i.e worse) and more difficult to get to venue, it's two completely different festivals. It's a shame and everything, but all the things that made ATP interesting & exciting have gradually been lost as time went by, and now it barely stands out from the much cheaper and more convenient (and dull looking) stuff like Field Day.
|
Yeah I agree. I dunno why they ever thought 4 festivals a year was a good idea. However, I do still think they're capable of getting some great bands to play. This'll be my 8th time going to one and sure, it did start to feel like over-familiarity was kicking in, especially at Minehead, but nothing beat when you saw that great band you'd never even heard of and being blown away.
I guess the idea of Fugazi doing it is still a pipe dream! |

In all likelihood I won;t have the cash for this but if I did I got to the one Wolf Eyes are playing at
|
Is it a bad thing I feel it's a good thing this festival ceases to exist?

SUPERCHUNK COMETS ON FIRE (reformed for this event) GIRLS AGAINST BOYS MICHAEL ROTHER presents the music of Neu! and Harmonia OM Announced for Loop |

hey that's cool, the last time they toured was in 2008. they were always a fun live band, so hopefully they'll add some more dates. |

Agreed. We lost a thirty year tradition here in LA (The Ragga Muffins Bob Marley Festival) last year due to cost increases. The reality of great festivals is once they get too big, instead of making more profits and ensuring future success, the logistics of such large crowds (staffing, security, clean-up, parking) actually chunk into the profits so much that most festivals actually end up disbanding. Its a shame. The Hollywood Bowl is hosting its 12th Annual Reggae Night June 30, it will probably be their last one too.. Ever since 2006 when it first sold-out (21,000 PEOPLE WERE UNEXPECTEDLY THERE, up from the 10,000 averages) the Bowl panicked, they were caught logistically with their pants down. I bet the increased clean up bill for waste services alone was insane (all that trash, it costs MONEY to dump it) let alone the lapses in security and parking over-flow. So the next year? The Bowl DOUBLED the prices and DOUBLED the staffing. The show went smoothly, but the costs have went up EVERY year since, I think the writing is on the wall.. ![]() |
Slint announced for Loop
|
And Lee Ranaldo will be at the first weekend...
|
Shellac, The Dismemberment Plan, The Magic Band, Ut, Mick Turner (Dirty Three) and Les Colettes added to Loop
Shellac, Magic Band, UT and Mick Turner all should be great. Always felt the dismemberment plan were overrated. |
If anybody has 1 spare ticket for the first weekend please let me know... I'm willing to pay more than face value...
|
i'm going to the 2nd one.
|
I'm going to neither, but don't pay through the nose, Stu!
Just be patient, the last few weeks before the festival there's always an abundance of spare tickets available. |
|
Final bands announced for Loop
Fuck Buttons Winged Victory For The Sullen Really looking forward to this now, weekend 2 looks much stronger than weekend 1 in my opinion. Loop, 23 Skidoo, Pop Group, Comets on Fire, UT, Om, Mike Rother all should be great. |
I have a spare ticket/bed for ATP end of an era part one if anyone wants it...
|
Bump
|
...So did no one mention the confluence of history with Lou Reed and ATP festival (named for VU song) both passing from this world within a month or so of each other?
I wish Michael Rother would play the west coast of USA, and that I could afford to go. Who is drumming for him now? Two big pairs of shoes to fill there, Klaus' and Steve's. Seems Mogwai are skipping us for the most part too. Maybe they know I'm broke right now? no shows planned right now...:( |
I've now sold my spare tickets...
|
Stage times! http://www.atpfestival.com/newsview/1311151036.php
|
Heads up. On the ATP facebook page they say you have to bring your own duvets etc. as Pontins aren't providing any for free this time. Cunts.
|
There still provide duvets and pillows for free but they don't come with casses or covers.
|
Really? Well that's just stupid. Surely sheets are easier to clean than whole duvets. Derp.
|
ATP don't have the money to pay for the cleaning!
|
Good point. Well anyway the set times are just silly. Saturday is just clash central.
Who the hell puts Low on at 3 in the morning, and the house dj on at 3 in the afternoon?! |
All times are GMT -5. The time now is 03:03 AM. |
