who the hell are the 86-or-so lurkers? they need to post. who the fuck just sits here, unregistered, reading? in this section alone there's 42.

91 now. That's rather surprising! You would think that there would be a lot more members than lurks. I hate going into interesting forums without posting unless there's tonnes of hatin' going on, and I find this board is pretty good in regards to courtesy.

yeah, most of us are nice. i hate that too. i would register on the electrical audio forums or whatever, but they all seem like massive assholes.

Yeah, one of the other Message Boards I'm registered to is based off my city's music scene (www.punkottawa.com) but the posters there are really immature and terribly rude. They're also filled with these:

Emo is undoubtedly the shitiest trend in alternative rock history. Its the posers home. rich kids try to look poor, with their neatly ripped jeans. Heh, in the other forum I used to regulary part-take in, of the 120 regulars in on of the sub forums, there was about 800 lurkers. Ridiculous.

It's at it's peak during the holidays, or in this one case, eve night of the Oscars. I can remember some of the regulars making a temporary sticky thread calling out the 'guests' to come and post. Of the 800 or so lurkers, they managed to get about half a dozen to come and talk.

The EA boards are endlessly amusing. I would register, but I really do not want to belong to another messageboard.

I'm on three other boards on which I don't post much really.
I just say some random shit on it when I'm drunk, this board is by far my favorite.

i'm in a livejournal community that sort of reminds me of this place, but there's not as many nice people. everyone's elitist and has been a member for years and years, and i feel like a dumb noob whenever i post.

The lurkers are the people who supposedly have zero posts. They are here to watch us and talk about us. They have their own secret part of the forum where they post continuously, analysing each of us in the minutest detail. They constantly take copious quantities of special drugs to keep them awake; some of them haven't slept since the new forum started. The purpose is some kind of secret research funded by the Illuminati. The Illuminati are very interested in Sonic Youth fans, very interested indeed. This is because the leader of the Illuminati, A certain Mr Weishaupt, is a serious Phil Collins fan and he can't understand how anyone can like Sonic Youth's music. He wants to know why we like it, how it could possibly appeal to us, what we get from listening to it.

He's scared we know something he doesn't.

Yeah I remember when I was a lurker for a bit on the old board. That's when I was registered to the MYSPACE FORUMS (absolutely terrible) and occasionally looked in here, but thought that most of it was boring. Then I finally registered and then 2 months later it was changed into this board, so most of you probably don't remember me from the old one.

I was a total lurker on the old board. Then I re-signed up really late, and got into the Interview thread and the infinitely thread, etc.

I'm actually not the biggest fan of the interview thread. This one's my fav. I'm really glad I registered here, it's much better than any of the other one's I'm registered to now because I don't really get along with many people, but here it's chill!

i know! i feel much more comfortable here than i do on the livejournal thing, mostly because i've been posting for nearly two years.

What about page views? I suspect this is even less accurate than the number of lurkers.
I'd be interested to know the ins and outs of how those are tabulated. Is the number calculated from some sort of cookie algorithm?

i'm sure that there are a few spam bots but, most of the lurkers are viewing different pages, some are even searching threads. i'm afraid they are flesh and bone lurkers.
