Grinderman

I got the 'Get it on' 7" in the post on Saturday. Everything about it is cool.:) |
|
The CD comes out in March, doesn't it? I'm looking forward to that. And to the live dates that will hopefully accompany it.
|
I got a promo copy of the single. Can't wait for the album.
|
Nick's been a little bit off form the last few years, music-wise - hopefully Grinderman will drag him out of his comfort zone.
|
I thought Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus was a return to form, although the two previous albums weren't up to much.
Having said that, they're still pretty great by anybody else's standards. |
I agree with Pookie on this one, I though Abbatoir blues was great.
I'm seeing Grinderman at ATP, but I'm guessing they'll probably play some dates around that time to support the album release. It'd be silly of them not to! I've downloaded their album (dunno if its the final mix) and its brill, i'm definitely gonna get it come march. |
There's a 2 DVD Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds live set out at the end of January, one set from the AB/LOO tour and one from the Nocturama tour. And there's a limited box set with an additional double live CD.
|
haven't heard them yet, how does it compare to the birthday party?

didn't expect to hear that from you sonicl, the only poor form as far as i am concerned is the sham that was nocturna |
His latest release with the Bad Seeds was fantastic. Definitely one of his, and their best.
I didn't mind Nocturama. Sure, it didn't/doesn't necessarly have the lasting power of other NC&BS albums, but it achieved what it set out to do. It was a nice album with a few great songs which would be classed as top NC&BS songs. I'm glad it's among the catalogue. Grinderman are very interesting. I'm looking forward to the release of the album. |
I thought that Nocturama was brilliant when it came out, but its appeal has faded with time. I think there are probably three really good tracks on there, but the rest seems like filler.
Abbatoir Blues is brilliant, but it is supposed, I beleive, to be viewed as a whole with Lyre of Orpheus, which is to disappointment as Abbatoir Blues is to brilliance, so as a whole I think it's a bit average. The last Bad Seeds album that I keep returning to again and again is The Boatmans Call. Since then he's settled down in Brighton, re-married, had more kids, and seems to be in a state of domestic bliss, and I think his songwriting has suffered. I still think the guy is the bees knees, don't get me wrong, but I think he's not what he was, say, ten years ago. |
I've heard a few tracks from the Grinderman album and some of it isn't radically different to the Bad Seeds' more upbeat songs. It's not as big a difference in sound to the last album as, say, The Boatman's Call was to Murder Ballads. I guess because Mick Harvey wasn't involved they were reluctant to call it a Nick cave and the Bad Seeds album
|
the grinderman album is brilliant, sounds nothing like the bad seeds, the only similarity is nicks voice, electric alice is my current favourite followed by i don't need you
|
I agree. It bares very little, if any, similarity to the Bad Seeds.
Top album. |

Here the ticket companies do some shit so that people can't sell them on ebay and the likes. They actually search ebay and suchI think and get the folk in shit for being pricks and trying to make a buck at others expense. |
For some reason two of the ticket companies put the tickets back on sale later in the day. Very odd. But it means that I was able to get a ticket after all. Huzzah!
|
Awesome. Welldone. Would be great to see them guys.
|
So pleased I got tickets to see them at the Forum, just heard that Suicide are supporting them which is very good news
|
Really? Fucking brilliant!

Said it before.
Grinder man is awesome, No pussy blues rules. |
totally. we were going to add that song to rotation at our station, but couldn't because of the dirty words. that's sad, because that song about sums up their aesthetic.

I will consider going to the Chicago date but I don't know how I would manage that. |
This October, two bands come to Australian shores: Nick Cave Solo and Grinderman. This is an opportunity, a chance you may never have again to see Nick Cave and his cohorts Warren Ellis (violin/mandolin/bouzouki), Martyn Casey (bass) and Jim Sclavunos (drums) through two completely different prisms in one evening and on one intimate stage.
Each of these special shows will open with a Nick Cave Solo set which sees Nick holding court from behind the concert grand piano, aided and abetted by the now longstanding solo line up of Warren, Marty and Jim. After this “solo” set, Cave will emerge from behind the ivory, shoulder an electric guitar and become one quarter of the mighty Grinderman, these same four musicians utterly transformed. If you’ve heard the record, you understand. Just imagine it. Many of your Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds favorites reinterpreted in singular style by Nick at the piano, followed by the full-blown catharsis of Grinderman’s existential howl. This will be one for the ages and it happens only here, in Australia - this October. TOUR DATES:* 13 - 15 October, The Forum, Melbourne 20 - 21 October, Enmore Theatre, Sydney 24 - 25 October, The Tivoli, Brisbane *Ticketek is selling for the above venues only. Tickets on sale Friday July 20, approx AU$75. www.grinderman.com http://premier.ticketek.com.au Go Australians, go! Having seen both Nick Cave "solo" and Grinderman, I can assure you, these will be fantastic shows. |
I am going to try my hardest to go to the Chicago show. It would be nice to revisit after Pitchfork.
|
i'd really love to make it to that madison square garden gig, but i refuse to spend any amount of money on teh whack stripes.
|
