Good News for You MBV fiends...
Kevin Shields has revealed, in an interview published in the January/February issue of Magnet Magazine, that he intends to record another full-length with My Bloody Valentine. It would be the shoegaze overlords' first album since 1991's classic Loveless.
"I do feel that I will make another great record," Shields told the publication. "We are 100% going to make another My Bloody Valentine record unless we die or something. I'd feel really bad if I didn't make another record. Like, shit, people only got the first two chapters, but the last bit is the best bit. It's just that it's taken me such an oddly long time for that to happen." Wait. Better than Loveless? Kev, we know good for press and everything, but holy crap, dude, what are you saying? Given Shields' recent remix and solo work for Sofia Coppola films and Go! Team singles, the guy has a lot to prove-- although there's no question the album would certainly be one of the most highly anticipated releases of... whatever year it eventually comes out. As for what year that might be, Shields was hesitant to give any kind of timeframe. (Actually, the answer was, "I don't know," so let's just take this with a grain of salt altogether.) But Shields did have this to say, in defense of the band's inability, thus far, to follow their magnum opus: "A lot of people say the reason My Bloody Valentine didn't make another record is because we couldn't. That's mostly true, but not because we couldn't make another record, but because I never could be bothered to make another record unless I was really excited by it. And just by fate or whatever, that never happened. I'm quite optimistic about the future, even though experience has taught me that I'm probably just delusional." |
I'll believe it when the album is actually in stores.
Until then, I am not holding my breathe. EDIT: How about they release all those EPs in like a box set, while they're at it? Eh?? EHH??? |
It'll have to be a pretty amazing album for it to not be an anti-climax.
Shields knows what he's doing.
He ain't no Axl Rose. |
Well,if he really knew it wouldn't have taken him so long to decide to make another record. Not that i'm hoping for a new one or really care.
It's going to have such a huge build-up though, and it'll be difficult for it to meet with all the expectations that the media hype will lead to. No fault of Kevin Shields, it's just that it'll built up as some kind of second coming.
Hell yeah. Looking forward to this. I'm still more hyped for Dre's comeback this year, but MBV's still ace.
does anyone remember when a user named Kevin Shields came on the Sonic Youth board and said some stuff about MBV. and there was this whole debate on whether or not he was really Kevin Shields. this was like a few years ago, anybody remember what the verdict was?
Ha, yes, I remember that. I think the verdict was "This guy is full o' shit".
They say their gonna make a new album every year. A bunch of bullshit I tell you.
There were some rumors a year or so ago that 3/4 of the band were working on some sort of live album or EP re-issues that were supposed to be out now, but nothing has materialized.
I bet recording guitar tracks for the new album has taken all Kevin Shields´ time and kept him too busy to write some actual songs for the past 15 years.
Loveless - the sequal is a thematic album for approximately 5400 echoed guitar tracks playing the chord e-minor throughout the whole record. |
This news is old, shields has been saying it for awhile but not really in a formal published form. When it happens will be the only evidence of it.
if it does happen, it won't be out for a while, judging by what I've heard of Kevin, he works really slow in order to get all the details right, so it's going to take a few years to probably put together.
They'll possibly write that the imminent MBV is (guess what?) a combination of guitars and grime just to make it sound a bit interesting. That will probably be a quote by Alan McGee who's ever so prone to the idiotic music commentary.
Maybe he can call it Third Stage.
most of you are way too young to get that... |

I'm so psyched for this to happen. It will be a highlight of whatever year, no doubt.
Eh. As big of a fan as I am, at this point I think they should just kind of let it be. It's hard for me to believe they could recapture that magic.
i wish they'd use some other name... i'm thrilled to hear any new music from kevin shields but i can't believe there's no way it can be as good as they were back in 80's/90's.

SEEMINLY BELINDA AND COLM ARE BACK WORKING WITH KEVIN on stuff, what stuff i dunno, as regards a new mbv album, ive heard it about 15 times since loveless ame out, usually at the start of each year. the guy is a perfectionist so wait at least another 3 years before it gets done! id love to hear it, no its not gonna be anotherloveless in the same wat as sy aint gonna do another daydream but the tracks on lost in translation soundtrack were pretty good and he aint gonna do anything coldplaylike (i.e. SHITE)now is he ....
AS REGARDS FAKE KEVIN SHEILDS. i remember that guy but has anyone heard the band kevin sheilds? i still havent heard em yet! |
Its never going to happen. but. in a way. i kinda don't want it to. 'Loveless' is so brilliant as just a 'one-off-epic' (all though i still love Isn't Anything)
This shall prove to be one of the greatest reunions in history. It'll be up there with Velvet Underground, Mission of Burma, Dinosaur Jr, Pixies, the alleged Meat Puppets reunion that is supposed to be happening some time this year and to a lesser extent Blind Melon.
I'm so glad that all these great bands that split up so many years ago have/are getting back together to show today's contemporary "alternative rock" groups what real music is. Ya hear that, My Chemical Romance????!!!! They're comin' for yr lame, wanna-be asses!!!!!!! |
But the question is.....will the album be performed by the original lineup (Bilinda, Colm, Kevin, Debbie)?
its not gonna happen but if it does deb has said many times that she wont take part. my reckoning is that kevins brother jimi could take up the reigns. he used to play drums for rollerskate skinny (kick ass irish band) and now the radio (not very good irish band). deb is too busy with her own shit, cant remember the band name but the belinda and colm are seemingly in line for the "next" album..... again ill believe it when i see, feel, hear it!

I actually made the mistake of buying a 3" cd by that Kevin Shields under the impression it was the MBV guy (he did some solo stuff for the Lost in Translation soundtrack that was pretty good under his own name.) I suppose that's why they picked the name, but I ended up throwing the disc away. I listen to a fair amount of noise stuff, but they honestly struck me as unfocused to the point of complete disinterest. I didn't know until now that it wasn't another guy who happened to have the same name. That makes me appreciate the joke a bit more, but I don't exactly miss the disc for it. |
But....But...My Bloody Valentine...are so...surrealistic-early-90s-can't replicate.
