Sonic 2023

here's something to look out for in the new year. This is the Three Lobed bandcamp newsletter from a few days ago, highlighted the best part in RED:

Quote:

Thanks to everyone who made 2021 a fulfilling year on the label side of things. If you listened, purchased or told friends about any of these titles, a most sincere *thanks*. Here's a quick reminder of our 2021 titles in their order of release (we have stock in hand on everything but for the B/D/H LPs):

Sunburned Hand of The Man - Pick A Day to Die (LP, digital) - threelobed.bandcamp.com/album/pick-a-day-to-die

Daniel Bachman - Axacan (2xLP, CD, digital) - threelobed.bandcamp.com/album/axacan

Six Organs of Admittance - The Veiled Sea (LP, digital, enamel pin) - threelobed.bandcamp.com/album/the-veiled-sea

Pelt - Reticence/Resistance (LP, digital) - threelobed.bandcamp.com/album/reticence-resistance

Body/Dilloway/Head - self-titled (LP, digital) - threelobed.bandcamp.com/album/body-dilloway-head

These albums are all massive and powerful in their own way, long-timers ready to run a long race. These also represent 5 of the 7 titles in our 20th anniversary series (the first being 2020's "Soundkeeper" by the Gunn-Truscinski Duo and the final one being a LP from Sonic Youth early in 2022), all welcome additions to the TLR discography.

We're all fried in some capacity or another these days - everyone's been through a lot. The various TLR activities have been a personal outlet for me to truly help avoid burnout and isolation during the entirety of the pandemic. The intense release schedule (new stuff, represses, working on upcoming stuff) running headfirst into the insanity of pressing plant issues these days (timing, availability of materials, etc.) created a situation where this one-man operation had been starting to hit the wall a little bit lately. Our legs are back under us now but thanks for understanding the little lag we have had in communication and label social media stuff here of late.

Here's to a great 2022!

Cory/TLR

oh well, this was already mentioned on the first page

Not as far as I know, Mariska. I'm guessing a live album, but considering the huge amount of live SY performances released via Bandcamp, it would have to be a very special one...

Just logged on here for the first time in a long time, saw that late-90's era SYR Musical Persprectives arabic shirt is going up for pre-order (have regretted not getting at the time). More promising is this copy:

"Sonic Youth’s SYR Musicales Perspectives series was the band’s sonic salute to music communicating beyond all borders, all languages welcome, all cultures celebrated. Each release would be spelled out in a changing tongue. More to come! Sonic Youth 'SYR' design with silver metallic ink print on a purple Gildan Heavy T-shirt. 100% cotton."

More to come.... more SYR releases, more languages, more monochromatic designs, more colors.

That is awesome news about the shirt reprint - I bought a bootleg black one on ebay a few years ago and I loooove it. I prefer it to the original blue (which I never owned) so I'm excited to see they're doing black and purple. Very excited!

Following their first album, Dave Tucker (Guitar, Electronics), Pat Thomas (Piano & Keys), Thurston Moore (Guitar), and Mark Sanders (Drums & Percussion) decided to “guess again.”

Agreed on black > median-blue, though dark blue would be good. I’d take a darker Washing Machine tee. Sometimes bootlegs are better than official depending on the design, though for the artist not so much.

New SYR-like TRL pre-order shirt from Three Lobed, spiral text in a romance language. My link button isn’t working, so here is the raw url:

Edit: url coded automatically, new board feature?

From Bikini Kill mailing list:

Check out, “Mirrorball,” the new song from Kathleen Hanna, Bikini Kill's touring guitarist Erica Dawn Lyle, and Raincoats drummer Vice Cooler!

The new song features the first new recorded original lead vocals from Kathleen in over six years and is the first single from Erica Dawn and Vice's new record, Land Trust: A Benefit For North East Farmers of Color.

Originally conceived as a quarantine-era mutual aid project after Bikini Kill tour was canceled due to Covid in March 2020, Erica Dawn and Vice wrote songs together remotely during lockdown via file sharing and then asked a bunch of their friends to help them finish the songs. The end result is a 16-song mutual aid benefit LP available exclusively as a download from Bandcamp.

Guest singers and performers include Kim Gordon, The Raincoats, Brontez Purnell, Alice Bag, Mike Watt, Rachel Aggs, Katie Alice Greer, Palberta, Kelley Deal, and many more, including Kathi Wilcox, who joins Erica Dawn, Vice, and The Linda Lindas on bass for, “Lost In Thought”, which will be released next month. Watch the album trailer here.

The LP is coming out on June 3rd but you can preorder Kathleen's song, “Mirrorball,” now. All proceeds go to Northeast Farmers of Color Landtrust (NEFOC)!

NEFOC is an Indigenous and POC-led grassroots organization that seeks to acquire land in order to return it to Indigenous nations and reconnect POC farmers and land stewards to land.

I pitched the idea of a Murray Street super deluxe/complete sessions with the Demonlover and Things Behind The Sun soundtracks on it to Steve on Instagram.

A boy can dream.

Chris Lawrence 05.20.2022 10:17 AM

See, when I hear there's no material left, my first thought always goes to the soundtrack sessions from 2001/2002. I just wonder if some of that stuff has legal strings, although they've released a lot of material from those sessions in non-soundtrack context...

The world needs "Magick Air"! (Okay, it probably doesn't.)
