Best Reissues of 2013
So what older music that's been reissued this year have you been enjoying?
Personally I have been buying lots of NZ reissues, so many fantastic releases. Siltbreeze have put out some great ones included Scorched Earth Policy and Victor Dimisich Band Highlights have included The Garbage and The Flowers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlonJjNwdqA Scorched Earth Policy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhlhrZODxhE Snapper http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ePoqccnjAA |

That's my favourite re-issue of the year, I love it. besides that I've been enjoying: Skullflower - Birthdeath/Form Destroyer/Xaman/Black Sun Rising (Dirter) Natural Snow Buildings - Daughter of Darkness (Ba Da Bing) Overhang Party – Complete Studio Recordings (Important) Hills - Master Sleeps (Rocket Recordings) I'm sure there's more that I can't think of right now. |
I already have the Medication CD reissue of Scorched Earth Policy, although I will probably get the new vinyl version just because I love their music a lot.
One thing I like about Siltbreeze reissuing stuff compared to other labels is that they don't go down the wanky deluxe reissue path with stupidly expensive packaging and 300g vinyl or whatever resulting in an old record being twice the price of a new one. |
Keep Away From The Wires by Scorched Earth Policy is one of my favourite NZ records. It's sublime.
I know there's shared members w/ the Victor Dimisich Band, but I've only heard one song of theirs, the one on Bruce Russell's compilation. It rules. I'll need to check this reissue out. |
Yeah Peter Stapleton was in both bands and also in The Pin Group, The Terminals and Handful of Dust (sort of).

Epicycle - You're Not Gonna Get It (Hozac Archival)
Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat Unwound - Kid is Gone Nirvana - In Utero (2013 Mix) Codeine - What About the Lonely? Come - 11:11 Pretty good year for reissues, really. I really wish I'd picked up the reissue of Bitch Magnet's three LP's in 2011, because it has, technically, been my favorite reissue purchased this year. God damn that shit fucking rocks, and the connections between Bitch Mag and the emergence of post punk and even post rock are really evident when you throw those three albums, remastered, into a shuffled playlist of geometric post rock. But White light/White heat is the one. What can compare? |
Basho - Visions of the country

The Cananes - Happy Swing

This has been a lot greater than I thought:
http://shop.southern.com/nomeansno-mama-vinyl/ This has released in cd a lot earlier, but the vinyl came this year. |
Peter Jeffries - Last Great Challenge in a Dull World
Alastair Galbraith - Cry |
Sensations' Fix - Fragments Of Light
Tuxedomoon - 1st 2 EPs Superior Viaduct are doing some good things in this area. |

Is this a dis? I can never tell with you. Noisefield bought me the 3xCD version. It's not actually a hyper-audiophile deal (no 180 gram vinyl or anything)... But it was definitely a surprise. At this point in my life, Christmas is just an exchange of Trader Joe's housewares that make me feel old. I'm still listening to it constantly, and yes it was the single best reissue of the year. If the In Utero 20th anniversary was more "2013 mix"/previously unheard and less same old same old, it might give it a run its money. |
Got this one yesterday, really cool and interesting sounds. It's kind of a fusion between africa, jazz and ambient.
