talk me through mirror/dash
okay so I've been looking for this stuff for years, never been able to find it nor do I even have so much as a vague idea what it sounds like. worth pursuing?? also how about free kitten, any good?
|
So what you really meant to ask was, "Talk me INTO Mirror/Dash?"
I like free kitten but I grew up on riot grrl.. I really liked this record and 1997 was probably the pinnacle of the Kill Rock Stars era.. |
I don't believe there's much Mirror/Dash to explore (this was just Thurston/Kim as a duo) beyond the 7". Maybe some live recordings but I'm not sure if any circulate. Kim repurposed the title for a fashion line recently.
As for Free Kitten, the early EPs are just Kim/Julie as a duo and some people probably swear by those recordings but for me, Nice Ass and Sentimental Education are fantastic albums (the latter being the stronger of the two, in my opinion). It doesn't sound that different from Kim's contributions to SY in the early 90s, but Julie adds her voice/style. Really worth checking out. The "reunion" album was closer in tone to the early EPs, less formed than the two albums I mentioned, which are all structured songs. |

You totally forgot that experimental noise "album" I Can't Be Bought Also, they put out a lot of really limited release DIY type things but you're right, for all intents and purposes there is just that 7" accessible (I think it was reissued??).. http://www.discogs.com/artist/159818-MirrorDash Quote:
Glad we agree.. Quote:
I feel the exact same way, it sounds like if post-Washing Machine Sonic Youth combined with Helium.. |
Mirror/Dash's "I Can't Be Bought", originally a limited edition CD released by Three Lobed Recordings, consisting of a live performance at Le Weekend Festival in Stirling, Scotland, on May 27th, 2005, is available to stream for free or to buy in any digital format of your choice over at Bandcamp:

That's ok, I'm wondering how you didn't notice I posted all this same stuff for him yesterday  ![]() |
I was present at the recording of I Can't Be Bought, Dream Aktion Unit also played and the results were recorded and released as Blood Shadow Rampage on the Volcanic Tongue Label. Fantastic and surreal evening in Stirling, I got my Electric Pen 7" signed by both Kim and Thurston.
